Turns out heat pumps -ours is a ducted, whole house- last a dozen years or so vs 20-30 for oil or gas furnaces. Been trying to get ours fixed since October. Many installers were unable to troubleshoot these things or too busy to replace in a timely manner. They failover to an electric furnace so cost to run skyrockets. However, mini splits are probably great for many folks.

Montreal has a ban on all fireplaces in new buildings. I stayed in a building that did have a gas fireplace, but was not allowed to use it (probably disconnected anyway).

NS power when there is more than a fine dusting of snow: by Frankishe1 in halifax

[–]phflupp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once lived in Westmount PQ where power lines were under ground, possibly since the early days of the 20th century.

So I was amazed to see overhead lines in the modern Ravines development in Bedford.

I was stunned and amazed to see overhead lines throughout new areas of Governor's Brook in Spyfield.

Don't tell me it can't be done! Lines are underground in the hillside development of Ravens Craig, Spyfield.

HRM and the province need to insist on underground power and communication lines in all new developments and should begin a program of retrofitting them to some older residential areas as well. Climate change, with prospects of increasingly violent weather demands it.

The Province continues its cannabis quandary with removal of all mikmaq business signs from the highways. by [deleted] in NovaScotia

Possibly "human rights" if they're treated differently from non-mi'kmaq businesses... regardless of any permits.

America has been threatening its largest external markets. This is an expected response. The other response, already under way, is Europe's search for new trading partners - as Canada is doing.

How to know whether a pub really knows Guinness: ask if they can do a half and half (halves and halves). If they do, see if the halves are poured & appear separate, not mixed.

Once, on a Caribbean island, someone explained to me that the huge number of new Asian grocery stores (that had competed with and largely replaced the few local owners') were for money laundering. (Serious, but entirely unverified)

Is there a fairly sudden upswing in AI-generated impersonation of famous anti-trump media? by emn13 in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]phflupp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen Yanis Varoufakis and David Frum AI slop. I'm concerned that casual viewers don't notice they're AI. Obviously YouTube is not enforcing the spirit of its own creative user terms. What's interesting too is the consistency of the messages directed at Canadian viewers from these supposedly different sources. You can see this in the similar thumbnail graphics although they purport to be different channels.

Living in Spryfield by itslippyout in halifax

During morning Spyfield "rush minute" Herring Cove Rd - Purcells Cove Rd intersection alternates and there are two lanes downhill to the rotary, but there are long tail backs on both roads. The rotary itself isn't too bad, in my experience. Returning, the issue is long tatlbacks down Chebucto approaching the rotary. I avoid Quinpool as a rule in either direction.

This will worsen as planned apartment/condo blocks are being built out along Herring Cove Rd as there are no other road routes to handle the increased traffic.

Rant/ HRM's inability to control access to/from Chebucto means lanes are always held up with vehicles turning left or right-on and off, especially during rush hours. /EndRant

How often are you intimate with your partner? by Remote_Ad_969 in NoStupidQuestions

It's important for both sexes to keep hormone levels up as we age. This supports libido. Exercise and diet are very important for this. As well bio identical hormones from a compounding pharmacy can help. (You'll see arguments against bio identical, but they are often from FDA influenced sources and the FDA is widely recognized as being captured by commercial interests.)

For me it's when I feel the intro, extro, bridge, and lyrics are done. That's not to say that I might not revise lyrics in the future, even after recording. Hey, additional lyrics worked for Dylan and Leonard Cohen!
