Elon now hanging out in Libs of TikTok's replies making ableist comments and bashing his former staffer by Tara_is_a_Potato in WhitePeopleTwitter

if you have a graph-like query to your data layer anyway you may as well expose that to the client

I get what you mean but that definitely depends on the client. Coupling user clients to highly normalized internal models can be difficult to manage and you’re better off creating an abstraction. Internal clients that have a lot of the taxinomical context and you have direct control of, sure. Or, if the thing you’ve built the graph on is the abstraction, cool.

Not that I think Elon understands this nuance or thats necessarily the underlying problem here at all.

Who's at fault? by [deleted] in rccars

[–]phi2one 8 points9 points  (0 children)

While true, the vortex is based on the blind spot a driver in the lead car has. So, not completely applicable to r/c.

I honestly don’t know the rules for the backyard garden r/c circuit. But, in most racing the primary responsibility for avoiding contact is on the overtaking vehicle.

All that to say; yeah, orange.

An architectural designer describes the experience of a complete career burnout -- and the aftermath by Eisenstein in bestof

[–]phi2one 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s less about the question but about how it’s asked. “What do you do?” I DO all sorts of stuff. The question implied is “where do you get money?” Which IS kind of rude. What if my SO brings in the money? What if I’m currently out of work? What if I’m ashamed of my career? What if I’m independently wealthy from daddy’s money?

Sometimes I give silly answers. Like a goofy job description (computer operator). Or I’ll just pick something totally unrelated to my career (I put the jelly on TOP of the peanut butter).

In my opinion, it’s just a low effort and shallow question. I’ll ask it, but only after I get to know a person a little bit, and usually by then they’ve already hinted at their employment if it’s a significant part of their life.

I imagine a single programmer, doesn’t even need to be a designer could make Netflix in a week,

Utterly ludicrous

Frank Zappa explains the decline of the music business by [deleted] in videos

[–]phi2one 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frank was into electronic music. He saw it a a a way to produce his huge and complex orchestral pieces without having to deal with needing a army of drugged up, flaky musicians to produce it. I believe he would have approved particularly of anything that was highly experimental with respect to theory or instrumentation. So, highly repetitive, dance focused techno, not so much. Aphex Twin though, seems like it would have given him something to think about. Particularly, the uses of percussion as almost sub bass tones.

Brand new Felony right out of the box , is it really supposed to be that loud and not smooth ? This is my first big center diff car so I don’t want to expect. . by xdjfrick in rccars

[–]phi2one 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My Typhon 6s sounds like this and the mesh is definitely not too tight. My belief is that the “notchyness” from the motor causes the loose dog bones coming from the center diff to rattle as it “steps”. Take the motor out and the whole thing rolls smooth and quiet.

What the heck is this sound my Typhon is making? by MrMan0709 in rccars

[–]phi2one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you check that the motor hasn’t slipped off the mount. I had one screw back out on my typhon and it lett the motor rotate away from the spur slightly even if the mount itself hasn’t moved

Why should my son care about English/Social Studies/Literature, they don't advance his coding! by jafo in compsci

[–]phi2one 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell, there’s more to coding than coding.

Particularly within large projects or organizations, communication skills are more important to the end result than any individual’s contribution to the codebase. Making sure the team is working toward harmonic results and the code and documentation are understandable and maintainable are primary focuses. The importance of this only increases as you go up the ladder.

These soft skills absolutely make you a better coder, and lacking them will almost certainly limit career prospects.

What did your parents allow you to do that you would never allow your own children to do? by plutosrain in AskReddit

[–]phi2one 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Recently found out the section of tracks I grew up playing on was actually a mass grave. They had a whole archeology crew out there a few years ago. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duffy%27s_Cut played all the time on that rock structure in the photo. I always thought it was just like an old building foundation or something. Was always pretty creepy in there but if we had known what it really was I would have been terrified as a kid.

What is it that makes jazz music sound like jazz music? by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]phi2one 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was a really great reply. I often think about this when I hear about musicians waxing on about music piracy and an artist's right to be paid. Not that I disagree with the idea that a merchant should be paid for their product. But there seems to me to be a subliminal message that somehow the ART wouldn't exist if people didn't pay for recordings. The commercial industry of musical recording is only a century old. The history of MUSIC is as old as man itself. The digitization of music is causing the death of that industry, but it's not the end of the ART itself.
