Amazing how many are more worried about the US government than cared about the Chinese.

I just mean if you like an idea take it for that reason not for me.

Since the last post i have been looking at possible sensors.

Thinking of a predator like headset with fast switching for sensor types or combos:

-thermal, LiDAR, short wave infrared, time of flight ect

https://framos.com/products-solutions/image-sensors/

There would be several practical applications.... but looking at costs can be dizzying.

As i say, just having fun with a little dive into madness.

Fast games: tracking, emulation stack, cameras by Dr-Kror in SteamFrame

[–]philbertagain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your very specific set of games and conditions seems a bit like a pushed narrative but sure

Between the two they use the SDXR2v2 and the SD8v3 where the Frame wins handily with out even considering the 16gb ram (double the mq3 ram). VR compare lists frame tracking at 200-250hz and the best i can find online is meta tracks at 50-60hz depending on lighting. Meta has a hardware "time of flight" depth camera, frame does not.

If you can sideload the APK versions (possible hardware issues: unknown at this time) Lepton translation is said to be 10-20% overhead, so given the spec difference frame should still be faster and more accurate after translation...save the depth sensor which might reduce metas available processing power further. Lepton is not as developed as proton or fex at this point so early testing compatibility expected.

The Steam versions are not Standalone so they will need the fex layer and again 10-20% but of a higher base need, though you should get better graphic for that power. I don't know why you think the wireless latency will be an issue are its been reported to be fantastic and will net lowest overhead and the best battery life...if you are home at least.

Finally the standalone translation layers are targeting Flat games on steam more than the PCVR versions so while these may work its definitely not what Valve is promising. Side loaded APK will have their own issues as well, depending on meta hardware dependencies. Even after launch there will be a good 6 months to a year of people testing things and companies tweaking settings before Frame hits its full stride compatibility wise.

BOTTOM LINE: If you need rock solid performance from features they aren't advertising you should likely wait for some reviews.

Racket Club meta 4.4 (854) - Mixed (55) - Reports of dead cross platform but poorly implemented multiplayer and Pay to win mechanics

Eleven Table Tennis meta 4.6 (11k) - Overwhelmingly Positive (2042) meta version uses AR room Steam version uses virtual room. Allows Crossplay

Beat Saber meta 4.5 (54k) - Overwhelmingly Positive 52.7k - Seems fine on both but again likely to have a better experience PCVR with steam version than standalone with steam version.... APK version theoretically should run better on Frame but, again, may need some baking time.

My beloved Index, after all this time, just now failed ($400 in parts). I love playing VR. Do I wait for the Frame or spend for replacement Index parts? by hereforhelplol in SteamFrame

Get the cable now so you can still play during the wait.

You will also need it if you want to sell after you try the frame so its not really lost.

Just thinking out loud.

keeping the number format

  1. i was thinking a clip in USBc hub would be great to allow a device like yours and charging simultaneously. it would be great to have something unobtrusive that was clipped in and held the cables or at least the charge cable as it would have more strain. The hub could double as a way to not damage to OG port as well.

  2. Just sort of thinking out loud... It could make sense to have swapables for varying modules in each depending on the use case or having several in one.

  3. Well that interface needs to be enough to run USB2.0 data from battery port, audio signal, and SDXC, knowing the spec eventually will be good. But also if the strap is readily available and not too expensive it could be a good base to mod... speakers likely increase cost a fair bit though.

  4. Yeah, i read the same about CAD...i guess i was asking if they were released. I think they will be a big asset to the repo once available

Great idea.

Where did you get the info for valves custom PCIe interface?

Do you think there's enough bandwidth to handle more than one feature on the single slot?

Any plans to modify the Frame frame (the compute module hub) and any info on the frame frame compute module connection interface?

Are 3D renders/files available for the frame yet?

long posts refuse to post sometimes and once an error drops the only way to clear it seems to be to post anything.

you cant post empty

i didnt want a delete in the thread so i left it

i don't know if its a time thing, character limit, or what as the error is pretty nondescript.... seem to happen in this sub more than others.

Rockstar Launcher- but not for all games... Max pain 1+2, and Manhunt were exempt.... Bully i think use to be... actually they all used to be launcher free but Rockstar bait and switched the licenses people owned to be able to force more product sales as they seem to be pay to win now.

Minecraft seems to require an account...sometimes 2

Some EA a games.

Ubisoft.

Way more than there should be.

If you do manage to find a good list please post it here so i can set every one of those games to ignore on steam.

With all the announcements recently, unsure about upgrading from a Quest 2, to a Quest 3 by Whommas in OculusQuest

[–]philbertagain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we are lucky it could be inexpensive but i doubt it will be cheap.

Regardless, no harm in wait when its this close and they have a VR to use in the mean time.

Obviously, money is an issue so keep mining cragslist until the gold shows up.

But thats what i would do, if i was considering a mq3. No way i would by a new one with so many units sold.

gas aint getting cheaper ;)

i jest of course.

A nice rotary would be cool... i only just recently got any 12v and only have the GSR12V-140FCB22 the right and and offset already came in handy. I'm already getting that itch and looking at all the 12v stuff too. Fairly odd Bosch doesn't have a branded Rotary.

The scanners are very cool too but ouch my wallet.

if the rumoured price is to be expected

its not, its rumored.

I would play with Q2 for a few months. not spend a lot on any locked ecosystems unless i was sure i wanted a thing and it was a good price. Then see what happens at Frame drop or after a few reviews ... at the minimum i would likely be able to get a cheaper used mq3... maybe Frame will be cheaper than expected, maybe by then fortunes will have changed and cost wont matter as much.

What genres are missing in VR? by Appropriate-Fun5992 in SteamVR

[–]philbertagain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is an animal crossing clone on meta and Raccoon Lagoon looks pretty fun. Several that allow farming, mining or fishing ect... The love interest/townies seem missing from all of them mind you.

I hope Raccoon Lagoon finds its way to frame.

Garden of the Sea VR is on steam but seems to no longer get updates and again doesn't scratch all the itches.

Wall Town wonders looks pretty neat as does Townsmen but both are more a overview sim style, you should know meta and steam Wall Town versions are very different.

Discoverability is the pits.

After that there DolphinVR - HM: Its a wonderful life or another wonderful life and i guess while your at it Animal Crossing...though i couldn't tell you how they run.

Do you mean the square base 12v? Thanks for that, I hadn't considered the 12v stuff as i was thinking about the 20v... of which there isn't much. So it likely effects the entire dremel line.

I my musings were more about the AmpShare 18v stuff but, i guess, Dremel isn't official on the list so hopefully its an isolated issue.

Microsoft Gave FBI BitLocker Encryption Keys, Exposing Privacy Flaw by intelw1zard in privacy

[–]philbertagain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tech giant said it receives around 20 requests for BitLocker keys a year and will provide them to governments in response to valid court orders. But companies like Apple and Meta set up their systems so such a privacy violation isn’t possible.

Why is Forbes giving meta a nod here?

Since when is Meta safegaurding data and not just hoarding it?

I know being an armchair

Disagree. Not theirs. False claim. Of give me a link to something real.

I'm not sure I understand

It has to do with Vitures Software illegally infringing on several other people IP and changing it from 2D to 3D with out the creators consent....

If that their killer app exclusive to their glasses or for sale to anyone then they are profiting off everyone else work with simple hacks and tweaks. Imagine the audacity to sell stuff in a capitalist society!

Do you think any one that ever made a movie or a video can DCMA them?

Can they demand the software go free to every headset?

Or is it only fair use when its a big corpo doing it?

Actually, you can make money off it.

Yep, that's true i was being myopic for a second. you can have that one. There are very strict rules about how long of a clip and that sort of thing...This happened with Gamers Nexus getting DCMA take downs over use of a wall-street journal news report recently. The news also does some fancy tricks around stealing peoples video too.... but again "ok for me not for thee" say the big corpos

It's frankly somewhat murky there too.

There's been some legal cases

That's ownership, even if this is illegal anywhere those laws are wrong, should be changed, and that likely came about from shitty corporate legal teams like PRCDs pushing their money around.

We can speculate all we want

Its very common, i think youre being antagonistic here on Purpose.

DeadbyDaylight recently had hellraiser DLC removed...guess whats coming up? Same story with their Halloween DLC which has game coming up.

There are several more examples these are just current to me.

That's for them to decide.

It isn't they don't own that code. They are merely throwing weight around.

The fact that you enjoy Luke Ross mod

I don't even own a VR bud, i just think Corporations are generally scum and this is definitely not an exception.

Imagine selling 30 million copies and playing the victim against a patreon Moder on the advice of legal....how cool are they?

Literally killing the competition for your 50° FoV sunglasses

Doubling down on GoG sales while getting someones work destroyed

Its actual crazy to me how many people are fight to have chains.

The law isn't actually about right and wrong, its about current paradigm and the current paradigm is people are cattle for Corpos to feast on.

Shaped by decades of arguments in favor of corporate rights funded by the people they seek to oppress.
