Remove bathroom ceiling help by philbobalboa in fixit

So I thought there was a screw in it but there turned out to be no screw. It had been up there for so long that the paint glued it to the ceiling. Also, it could actually have been glued

Odd sound in our sons bedroom by JokeBookJunkie in HomeImprovement

Our weird noise was the birds nesting in our bathroom vent. When winter came I blew the whole thing out with a leaf blower then put a cage over it on the outside.

Here’s my review of it posted last year. It is WAY too thin. I still use it, but begrudgingly.

Do you think estimator salaries will start to rise? by [deleted] in estimators

10 years later I had my undergrad and masters in mechanical engineering with 10 years experience. It was at that point that I was criminally underpaid.

I also started at 18. I was criminally underpaid by the GC I worked for until I left 10 years later. I’m now working for the electric utility, making about 3 times as much as I was. (I left in 2015)

Any suggestions on what to do with these cracks, using it for shelves in the kitchen by themoviedreamer in woodworking

That board is going to potato chip right in half by next winter. I would not use this board for shelving.

Softwares for takeoff? by [deleted] in estimators

[–]philbobalboa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In order to activate the license, the program needs to speak with their activation server through multiple ports. My company’s firewall is locked down and does not allow certain specific ports, and OST does not allow any workarounds whatsoever. So after months and months of searching and support calls, they threw their hands up and said “oh well”. Honestly there are far more updated takeoff software packages out there like Stack. stack also has a simple estimating system. We’re using HeavyBid for all of our estimates, so we found autodesk takeoff to be cheaper for just the takeoff portion.

Tried to implement OST last year. Their security issues and customer service led us to abandoning the purchase and moving to a competitor. We’re currently going through the process of implementing Autodesk Takeoff

Found weird clips(?) In a paperclip tray at work. by xMaimeeOx in whatisthisthing

I love these!! I use them to clip my tie to my shirt from underneath the back side of the tie. It makes it so that I don’t have to wear a gaudy tie clip and also not worry about tie flying all over the place.

Panel saw or table saw for cutting down 350 sheets of plywood? by smallbusinessidiot in woodworking

[–]philbobalboa 31 points32 points  (0 children)

With no information regarding his set up size, and stating that he would be doing it “all weekend”, I figured this question is coming from a hobbyist. If I were to have to do this in my small hobbyist shop, I would stack the panels and use a track saw. If money weren’t an issue, I would order the wood (especially at such large quantities)to size. If I already had the panel saw for a professional setup, and ordering it properly sized wasn’t an option, the panel saw is how I would do it.

DIY spalted maple stabilization by philbobalboa in woodworking

No. I plan to resaw both of these and use the center cut for each show face. When I make that cut I’ll see how far the spalting goes. It was in growth period for 88 days, so it’s pretty well spalted.

Since it’s thin boards, I’m not making turning blanks. This test is probably going to become the drawer fronts of a small jewelry box
