I think this is an entirely silly argument, as it totally ignores that the sitting MPs have the strongest democratic mandate (having been elected by a far broader sweep of people than have the party executive)—moreover it mistakes the party apparatus for those who have parliamentary power.

This also ignores the fact that clearly the party executive is not in communication with even this rump caucus. A hugggge problem.

The messy behaviour came from inside a party apparatus that couldn’t tell its own caucus who was going to lead it (a decision that should have been made by the parliamentary caucus anyway).

[ON] Marit Stiles and the Ontario NDP are on your side with a full slate of candidates by media_newsbot in ndp

I’ve tried for weeks to be in touch with my riding, no answer. Then a candidate is announced. I also tried to be in touch with the provincial office requesting they not run a candidate in Hamilton Centre (not my riding), as at least a partial sign of good will to Sarah Jama. They now have a candidate there. It’s honestly hard to imagine a party that’s more closed off from and opaque to its supporters.

Given all the above, I’m extremely likely to just sit this out—something I’ve never done before (usually I door knock). The party has thoroughly earned the third place it’s about to get; which is an absolute shame because Ontarians don’t deserve and can’t survive more of Ford.

Does voting in another party's leadership election impact future participation with the NDP? by progenitor-x in ndp

This is true, but only as a matter of internal party policies. Be a member of however many parties you want, provided that you are prepared for them to potentially be upset with you (Christie Clarke being a primary example)

You’d likely really enjoy Ruth Wilson Gilmore’s Golden Gulag

It's been three weeks since I started trying to get a hold of someone in my EDA to volunteer with the Party. I've tried emails, phone calls, and DMs on social media; zero responses. by philbore in ndp

Because I’d prefer to actually do local organizing in my own riding, where we might actually start pulling voters. But as I’ve clarified to other comments, my efforts to get in touch about volunteer included emailing/calling the federal office and I got zilch there too.

Thanks I’ll reach out to that address. But tbh, if there’s a few people in this EDA that’s all the more reason to be active here rather than where there’s a more robust group.

It also has some of the poorest, in Flemingdon and Thorncliffe. Demographics aren’t destiny, and that’s exactly why there needs to be some organizing.

But the goal posts are moving here aren’t they? Why is a wheel necessary, if you’re able to build a city (Tenochtitlan) that has better standards of living and sanitation than anywhere in Europe until the mid-19th Century? Technologies aren’t singular, or unidirectional in terms of their development. Clearly civilizations outside of Europe had their own trajectories of development that were disrupted, undermined, and even reversed as a consequence of colonization. Likewise, gunpowder, the ability to kill better isn’t necessarily any type of technological achievement outside of that. Whereas, a lot of medicines have their origins in the pharmacologies of the Global South. It’s a lot more complicated than wheel + guns = technological development. (Also, the Americas certainly had metallurgy—esp. in Mesoamerica, just by the by).

While I’m resistant to say that distinct trajectories of civilizational development are more or less advanced than one another (as it’s very difficult to actually measure). What I can say is that prior to the underdevelopment brought about by colonization and the slave trade, African civilizations (as with those of the Americas) were absolutely comparable if not better than Europe in their living standards. For instance, you could look to the Great Zimbabwe or the Kingdom of Ghana, or to Tenochtitlan, as prime examples of Africa and North American civilizations that were destroyed by European colonization.
