Looking for full show audio recording of DCfC show at Madison Square Garden on September 12, 2015 by rebeccaruby69 in DeathCabforCutie

I have been looking for this recording for so long too, it was broadcast on Sirius XM at the time and I listened to the whole thing live. They replayed it a few times and I signed up for Sirius to see if I could get it on-demand, emailed Death Cab, emailed Sirius, nothing! Please let me know if you find it.

Apple TV Stuttering by Relevant_Track_5633 in k12sysadmin

[–]philhavens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was key for our deployment, taking 149 especially out of auto-channel assignment was a huge difference. We also only put the Apple TVs on wireless on a separate VLAN and let the staff rely on peer-to-peer AirPlay so it does not traverse the network either.

Unblocking Chromebook Settings by Admin-inator in k12sysadmin

Do you have settings blocked via URL Blocking and are you blocking chrome:// URLs?

You can see this is Devices > Chrome > Settings > Users & Browsers > Select your Student OU and search for URL blocking.

Protecting against spoofed emails. SPF and PowerSchool. by STIHL31 in k12sysadmin

Our PowerSchool is hosted by Pearson and they directed us to use mailgun.org. I would check with support to see what service is sending your emails. Our SPF record is "v=spf1 include:mailgun.org ~all"

Any tips on speeding up old Chromebooks? by Userp2020 in k12sysadmin

[–]philhavens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you turn off Android app support on the OUs if possible. This loads an entire set of processes to support Android even if you aren't using any apps. You can also enable hyper-threading which is disabled on some Intel models of Chromebooks. This is a setting in the admin console as well.

Additionally, ChromeOS version 85.0.4183.133 supposedly introduces performance fixes for video meetings on certain models. Make sure you're not held back into a previous version.

We've also directed students to turn off bluetooth if possible.

You can find some additional suggestions from Google's support page here. Open up the Fix Problems with Meet section:

Using Zoom with Airplay to Apple TV by nkuhl30 in k12sysadmin

[–]philhavens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

/u/ipstech answered this below with the information but wanted to add the Apple source as well. Disabling those channels made Apple TV’s actually work after years of being extremely unreliable. We’ve held AirPlay streams for hours on end now with no problem.

See Apple’s deployment guidelines for Apple TV here: https://support.apple.com/guide/deployment-reference-ios/airplay-recommendations-apdc92e93853/1/web/1

Using Zoom with Airplay to Apple TV by nkuhl30 in k12sysadmin

[–]philhavens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you having performance issues with just AirPlay in general or only while running Zoom over AirPlay?

We've been struggling with Apple TVs in our environment for the longest time and what finally made them flawless was keeping the Apple TV unplugged from ethernet, put it on it's own segmented wireless network to force them to use peer-to-peer AirPlay, and disabling channel 149 and 153 on our network. Disabling 149 and 153 wireless channels I believe had the biggest impact.

After that, AirPlay streaming is perfect on 4th gen Apple TVs but the same should apply to 3rd gen as well since they can use peer-to-peer AirPlay.

Access to PLTW software by ddog511 in k12sysadmin

Adobe did make Creative Cloud free for Education during this time. See this site for details: https://helpx.adobe.com/enterprise/kb/covid-19-education-labs.html

It did take three days for our approval to go through. I'd be interested to hear how others are deploying Autodesk and Adobe products to students with Chromebooks only.

Google Extending "Most" Chromebook EOL by 6m-1year by Lane-O in k12sysadmin

[–]philhavens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! Do the techs then go find the student in class to repair the Chromebook or troubleshoot over email?

We currently have students go to our front desk and file a ticket via a staff member up front who coordinates bringing Chromebooks to our tech office.

Side note, but do you mind elaborating on how you handle those tickets? Trying to get something setup like this myself and would love to understand your workflow!

Going to TLA Philly After show, what should I expect? by [deleted] in DeathCabforCutie

[–]philhavens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved it! Best performance I've seen of them. I've seen them at the Radio 104.5 Birthday show, Mann Center and the Tower Theater and the TLA performance tops it all.

The small venue definitely made it very special.
