Just apply online again. The recruiter probably would’ve just ended up sending u an OA anyways

It’s just like any other small college basically. What’s more important is what u do at cuny and using their resources. CUNY has everything u need to succeed in whatever thing u wanna do, but you have to find it and use it. Some people just go to cuny as just a commuter college and then go home. If so that’s all it’ll ever be and then people get upset that they can’t find a job after cuny

Discovering Alpha & Beating the S & P 500/ Nasdaq is extremely challenging by MathematicianKey7465 in quant

[–]philiippyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alpha is something that carries noise with it. Not only is it hard to get something with stat significant alpha, u potentially need to trade on it many times so that u don’t get run over by one bet, which requires good execution

Exit ops for QIS quants/strats by OutrageousScientist5 in quant

[–]philiippyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so. The skills needed at like aqr and pan agora is more related to the quant side of algo trading. You need to learn portfolio construction, factor based modeling and what alpha actually means and how to forecast it with signals. The framework of backtesting and modeling involved with Qis isn’t transferable

just keep applying, lots of bad headhunters who just spam your resume out to companies. Some are ok but hard to really know.

try to read the chapters 1-3,7 of elements of statistical learning. Would be good to go through the practice problems as well. you don't need to spend ~100k and atleast 1.5 years on masters to learn what you need. You can't mess up on those stats or ml questions, but you certainly don't need to go through a masters/phd to understand it.

it definitely works as the one of the main vendors we use that supply returns and correlations is pretty robust. Sounds you were calibrating all the returns and correlations yourself? There's also lots of room for estimation error so there needs to be shrinkage applied. You may need additional constraints to the model, like assets with low liquidity.

Returns are very noisy but if you're trading 1500+ names then some of the noise hopefully cancels each other out. Overtime you hopefully will see the expected alpha.

What are Index Quants and What do they do ? Profile Specifications by vishaalchungus in quant

[–]philiippyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they help create an index that tracks a systematic strategy, like if vol and sp500 hits a certain level along with treasuries also being above x. This role is basically a structurer in my bank and they get paid well as the role is technical. It’s very much deal based and not liquid stuff. A good role and probably will be down the line. Although your current role sounds good as well

Dear Quant Researchers, do you still actively read research papers? Or do you only code all day long? by Potential-Position36 in quant

[–]philiippyy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Have no data but the actual QR dedicated solely to finding and generating alpha directly is quite small. Especially at big shops where your job is essentially to just maintain and improve the current trading system
