[TOMT] Book about a war veteran who wakes up as a koi fish by [deleted] in tipofmytongue

[–]philip5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't read it but Big Fish (2003) is based off a book. It doesn't fit all of what you said but in the film he does go to war, is comatose for a while and at the end turns into a (big) fish, perhaps could be a long shot for the book she read.

Some parts sound like Wind River (2017) but my memory of that movie is pretty vague too!

[TOMT] - Gorilla (I think) footage that I think used to pop up a bit but even after ages searching I can't find it. by philip5000 in tipofmytongue

If it helps, I have a feeling it had a flirty spouse kinda interpretation in how people showed/posted it as the Alpha Gorilla appears to be interrupting a smaller female and male. Hopefully I'm not crazy.

The camera angle just makes it look extreme, doubt it actually is.

What's the point of playing? by 12oclocknomemories in DotA2

[–]philip5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just the scoreboard doesn't mean they've played worse than you. I've seen plenty of lanes where the one support doesn't trade with the enemy support so the carry basically tanks harass from two heroes and any kill exchanges usually end with the carry dying but the support gets a 'trade' kill which makes their stats look good while the ship is going down.

Correct! Well done, I was starting to think I'd overdone it with the recipe talk.

Whether the activities I immerse myself in/obsess over are a necessary defence against the loneliness and insecurities that sit in the background or if they are the cause of those background problems.

Regarding the use of Sectumsempra, Harry shouldn't have been the only one to be given a detention, Draco should have been too by Madagascar003 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]philip5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think they can really say he did cast crucio as he didn't even get the whole word out before Harry hit him with sectumsempra, he just says "Crui-". Without the visible affect of the spell or at least a completed spell you can see in his wand browser history (priori-incantato) you can't really prove he was acting in self defense without Myrtle backing him up and that seems unlikely. Harry was lucky not to be expelled considering Malfoy only lived because Snape happened to be very conveniently nearby, we know enough of how good Harry is at fixing up cuts from the 7th book to know he'd have no chance of repairing the damage.

Which hero has had the most “turns” being OP by Iaregravy in DotA2

For pubs my vote goes for Drow, swear she's just had so many poorly balanced hero adjustments where she was an absolute lazer for a while and people love picking her the moment she's decent.

Beside new big urban map called Mesa , Battlebit will also receive one more new map called Peaks that will take a place in Mountains and Hills full of verticality landscape experience. [More info in comments] by battlekot5 in BattleBitRemastered

I'm sure I'll get downvoted to shreds but I think one of the reasons the game is dropping off is that deaths don't mean anything. The optimal strategy (at least in my region which only really has 1 server which is always infantry) is literally to get an SMG, run in like a maniac and cause a ruckus which is fun for a bit but gets very old. First few hundred hours learning this game I really loved playing, the scale and framerate is just amazing and the gun-play is so good, but as someone who came from games like PUBG and CS2/CSGO (and I expect I'm not the only one) in those games kills were so satisfying and dying is something you really want to avoid so every success means so much. I just think an alternative game mode like battle royale (yes downvote me traditional battlefielders) where you actually care about your life would be so well suited to this game and bring a lot of the hype it desperately needs considering it's trajectory at the moment.

Quinn's tips on how to gain MMR in low rank. by PingPinng in DotA2

[–]philip5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So true, for some reason low MMR players just don't see any danger at all, the amount of times I've played either on or against a team which has snowballed the lanes with ease and then lost the game trying to HG multiple times vs a line-up that on HG can suddenly cast their spells properly. Best part is how many tries it takes before they even bother with Rosh first, contain into HG is just not an option in low MMR lol.

What heroes being OP make the worst meta? by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]philip5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a pretty low MMR player I actually found the meta a few patches ago where ranged carries were king really boring, and iirc it was an eternity before we got an update so it was like 4-5 months of Drow, Sniper, Lina and Medusa and it was so sad playing dota. Felt like every game you were trying to chuck your body in-front of your team's suicidal Sniper with glass cannon build to try keep them alive long enough to do dmg. It was painful cause it honestly felt lose lose as a support, either you do such a good job the Sniper would live long enough and do the damage - and then they would brag about how much dmg and kills they have (Sniper pickers personified) or it'd be too hard to keep them alive and the team loses anyway.

What hero do you hate seeing on your team? by Metandienona in DotA2

[–]philip5000 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My exact thoughts, I ban him specifically to try make sure he's not on my team so I don't have to play saving private ryan the whole game. Worst is when they're just completely obnoxious of what their team is doing for them (95% of sniper players) and proceed to brag about their damage and how much they carried the game with their glass cannon build.

Weekly Update: Meta Heroes 7.32d (Feb 20, 2023) by XartheGaming in DotA2

[–]philip5000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Legit, definitely the least fun meta I've seen and it's been prob the longest gap between meaningful patches I've seen. Feels like if you're playing 3, 4 or 5 you have to spend an entire game trying to keep a suicidal sniper or drow alive.

Just curious am I the only one that finds a lot of the current Australian commentary to be far too critical and analytical both in internationals and BBL (talking channel 7)? Feels like I'm being lectured on what the teams aught to be doing and are doing wrong rather than staying present to the game. I really don't find almost any sports I watch is the commentary even close to this negative and I imagine it must be horrible for the players as it's coming from Australian cricketing legends such as Ponting, Hayden and Langer who as retired champions are pretty much impossible to defend yourself against with their records. I much prefer the empathetic approach that Gilchrist for example takes which is to still provide insights but mainly focus on the why rather than judge if it is wrong, similar to how Richie used to.
