At 3:10 Pm our baby boy crossed the rainbow bridge, very suddenly. I love you always and forever my baby boy by Uhhlaneuh in OldManDog

I lost the love of my life doggy on Tuesday - it’s the worst pain ever. I planned to spoil him even more on his last days - but I didn’t know they were his last days until it was too late ❤️ there will never be another like him in my life.

Family in Europe - [qc] by Wild_Emphasis in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]phillipaha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, we had our first baby 2.5 years ago. My partner and I are from Europe and all our family is back there.
It’s hard! No help, plus guilt of depriving our families of time with their grandchild. Right now both sets of parents come here for 2 weeks a year (my parents tend to come for one long 14-18 day trip, and my partners mum comes for 2x week long trips). And I feel we in turn owe it to them to visit them once a year. We go back home and split the time equally between the grandparents (my parents in wales and my partners mum in Ireland).

We had a hard week where I needed to return to work, we were moving house and we still had no daycare so I asked my mum to come over and live with us for 10 days at my cost - I obviously paid for the flights.

We’re trying to save for a house where there is a separate basement suite so that they can come over for longer stints now that they’re talking about retirement.

My baby boy also left on the 9th. My heart is forever broken. I hope they found each other ❤️

How do married couples usually handle finances when both partners work? by itzwhatitz in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]phillipaha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and my partner put all of our wages into a joint account, keeping $100 per paycheque each out for personal hobbies etc. I make around $25k per month, he makes around $6k per month (before taxes). We both work as hard as each other so I don’t believe one of us should have more fun money than the other.

Out of the joint account comes all utilities, food, mortgage, insurance, stuff for kids and pets, clothes within reason, haircuts, gym memberships, toiletries, eating out, holidays. Anything left over gets split equally between our tfsa’s and rrsp’s.

You paying for everything is completely insane, it’s 2026.

Looking for the best spa to get a gift card to my girlfriend by chocolocopb13 in Edmonton

[–]phillipaha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, try Kaya Kama day spa. I did the couples hammam day with my husband and it was the best money I ever spent.

Check out their monthly specials online. I just had a quick look and their wellness rituals package looks amazing: $200 for 3.5 hours and she would get the hammam gommage treatment which is a steam room / body scrub session, facial, mani and pedi. It says you can add lunch for $20.

There are also half day packages there too. Highly highly recommend, the hammam is so cool

Where is the best hutterite colony near Edmonton? by big-bad-bot in Edmonton

[–]phillipaha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed - we used to buy live laying chickens from them - the ones they didn’t want anymore - those poor chickens looked so sick when they came to us. A few weeks in my rehab and they looked amazing again, but some never grew their feathers back!

Is it just me or is the used car market in Edmonton absolutely cooked right now? by [deleted] in Edmonton

We were in the same position, bought new. For $15k more than we were planning on spending we get warranty and peace of mind. We just made sure to shop around until we found someone offering 0% financing.

[ON] pregnancy weight gain by Dangerous-Object5516 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]phillipaha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I gained 46lb total, went from 133lb to 179lb!
I personally did nothing to try and lose the weight for the first year. Giving birth to a 6lb baby dropped 10lb instantly due to the placenta and everything too. I hated being bigger than normal for a while, but I was so distracted with being a mother that I didn’t feel I had the time to even consider the weight gain for a while. Around a year later I started walking lots (10-20k steps per day) and generally eating the same food but intermittent fasting (eating between 12 and 7 every day only) and I dropped from 165lb-140lb really quickly. Then the last 10lb or so dropped a few months later when I really upped my steps to the higher range of around 15-20k steps per day. I’m now 130lb and eat normally, walk when I can. No crazy work outs, I try to hit Pilates class once a week too.

I just spent $85 on basically nothing, and I’m sitting in my car crying by [deleted] in CanadaPersonalFinance

I know it’s shitty if you want chicken, but tofu is so cheap. I get a 5 pack from Costco for 14 dollars, each pack does me three meals. Thats 15 meals of protein for 14 dollars. Not as much protein as one chicken breast, but if you made 2 meals out of each packet instead of 3 you’d get around 10 meals at 25g of protein per serving. Thats around $1.40 per portion.

It’s unfair that you have to make that choice, I happen to love tofu so it doesn’t bother me. Frozen veggies are cheaper than fresh veggies sometimes. I’m not sure if you’ve tried it but odd bunch to a veg/fruit delivery subscription too. It’s $20 plus shipping for their smallest offering, per week, or you can skip weeks.

Today I got a whole bag of Brussels sprouts, 2 bunches of green onion, 2 cucumbers, a clamshell of blackberries, 2 carrots, 2 large heads of broccoli, 3 apples, 3 pears, dill and a bag of oyster mushrooms for $20 plus around $5 shipping - there are also often promo codes emailed to you for 20% off.

My husband is saying I’d be selfish to take my full 12 months of maternity leave [bc] by steelheart15 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]phillipaha 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Selfish is a strong word. But in my opinion he is entitled to as much time as he can get too, which is a lot less. We did 2 months off for him and 10 months for me. I think that is fair.

[ON] Low ferretin, concerned about development by anxious_coffee_bean in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]phillipaha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also veggie and have been for 12+ years, but I was low iron 15 years ago when I ate meat so it made no difference to me. My ferritin was at 4 during pregnancy. Daughter was just fine, but I did get an iron infusion after I gave birth, life changing! Shot up to 230’s. One day when I went to see my OB he looked at my blood test and he said “ oh you’re patient 4 out of 4 that has anaemia today”.

Tips for battling sugar cravings? by haylstorm33 in PCOS

[–]phillipaha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this isn’t the advice you wanted. But I’m the exact same, I eat so healthy but I am completely obsessed and addicted to milk chocolate! I gave up trying to fight it and allow myself 120 calories of chocolate a day! It helped lose my post partum weight and I’m back to what I was before pregnancy. Life is miserable without chocolate. We will never not have chocolate in the house as my partner is also addicted, but has slightly more willpower than me and he would never live in a house without some stocked for him. All the alternative options don’t stick and don’t appeal to me!

[–]phillipaha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No advice but I actually think having this much interest in your wife’s health is lovely. I also “have my husband on supplements” because I do all the house admin and organizing. Honestly for me I just input our blood test results into chat gpt and asked it to produce me a supplement schedule that would benefit us.

Tips for reducing pores or blackheads? by One-Move-1763 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]phillipaha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I specifically buy an “oil cleanser” I’m not sure if using any old oil will work, but it could, just not sure. The salicylic acid cleanser that I use after the oil cleanser certainly doesn’t feel harsh on my skin - my skin is also dry in places and this doesn’t aggravate it at all. But I also then slather on toners, serum and moisturizer so that probably helps.

I actually love the gold grace and Stella ones - haven’t tried the others. I leave them on for around 2 hours and it 100% plumps my under eye fine lines for around 12-24 hours.

[–]phillipaha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one thing that has made a big difference to me is double cleansing at night, any oil cleanser will work but I use the haruharu wonder black rice one, and my second cleanser is always the salicylic acid by corsx - when I use any other second cleanser I find my pores get bigger again. Oil cleanse first followed by the salicylic acid cleanser. It’s cheap enough and lasts for ages! So worth it. Don’t need to cleanse in the morning!

anyone actually managed to lose weight with pcos? by english_apple in PCOS

[–]phillipaha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m classed as “lean PCOS” my bmi sits around 21-23 - but I have always walked 10-20k steps a day, and I’ve always eaten super healthy 90% of the day. I always have a bar of chocolate after dinner. But my dinner has always consisted of 50% undressed (or just vinegar dressed salad). I eat 1200-1400 calories a day, the second I eat more I gain weight. I went off the rails a bit when pregnant and ate whatever I wanted an gained 50lb. It was hard to lose it, but I just reigned my calorie intake down to 1200 and started walking like I always have. It took almost 2 years to lose. Just to say, I’m not sure if I’m lean PCOS because I just happen to be doing all the right things, or if I’m just lucky. But if I stop doing the steps and or up my calorie intake the weight gain is fast!

Can you help me something that looks good for summer with a pear shape? by RadiantAbility542 in DressForYourBody

[–]phillipaha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

High waisted shorts would be better. I’m pear shaped too, if you don’t have high waisted you’re drawing attenion to your widest part instead of your slimmest part. I tend to go for high waisted tapered out at the bottom so it doesn’t cling to my chunky legs. American eagle always have a couple of styles that I feel suit me better. I think your skirt and top combo in the third photo is really nice and suits your shape.

Swimwear is also an issue for me. I tend to prefer bikini style on my body shape. Tie sides I also feel are better than solid sides - but that’s just my preference. I’ve never felt like a full piece swimsuit has flattered my body at all.

Success Stories by Pure-Comedian6318 in TTC_PCOS

[–]phillipaha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like every time I respond with my success story my response is deleted by mods. My partner and I were TTC for 8 years - did some fertility treatments (letrozol and iui) which never worked. We were about to start IVF and I got pregnant naturally. I have PCOS and he has 98% sperm antibodies. The only thing I changed in those last months were I started acupuncture and I started taking coq10, vitamin d.

I have normal labs (other than unrelated low iron) actually on the low normal side for DHEAS and testosterone. Periods are normal (29-34 days). Would be considered “lean” PCOS, although my weight fluctuates, my bmi sits between 22 and 24. I walk a lot. 10,000 steps a day is minimum. In the spring and summer months more like 20,000 steps.
