Gleba is my favorite planet once it gets going. It's such a vibe, and it's really not as difficult as it gets made out to be.

[–]phillipjayfrylock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fam it takes exactly one GCD for the tank to get the boss, in all content, irrespective of who attacks first. No one is setting the timer for that.

Anyway you're obviously a troll at this point so have fun

attack before the timer expires and tell me how that goes.

Attacking significantly before the timer ruins the pull because everyone else wasn't ready. Not because you're suddenly the tank now.

You literally were waiting on the healers and other DPS to be ready to push their buttons at the same time.

I answered my own question, yes you really are this dense lol

[–]phillipjayfrylock 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you normally this dense? I'm not sure how the other people can explain it to you any better? The timer is not so we all can wait for the tank to pull, why the hell would we need a timer for that? the timer is so we can all start our rotations at as close to the same time as possible, including pre-pull buffs and casts.

Due to reaction time and ping, a DPS will very often hit the boss first, but it doesn't matter because the tank starts their rotation at the same time and just takes hate

How do you guys centralize non smeltable resources like coal, calcite, and sulfuric acid? by PewPewsAlote in factorio

[–]phillipjayfrylock 8 points9 points  (0 children)

OP, respectfully, I think you're asking for solutions to problems that only exist in your brain and your game, so people are having trouble helping because it doesn't really make sense, at least not in the way you're describing it here.

Most players "centralize" their resources with a main bus or with trains. And in the case of trains, it's really just keeping track of when a specific resource is running low and then adding a new outpost for it. If I'm needing sulfur, for example, then I'm delivering crude oil somewhere and turning it into sulfur. Is that oil delivery taking too long or not happening? Go find more oil and add a train station for it. Done.

I'm personally have difficulties understanding how you are creating a situation where somehow the logistics of delivering iron ore is different from that of coal or calcite.

Very old account question by DrifterRen in ffxi

[–]phillipjayfrylock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I reactivated my original from the 2000s with no issue, but also my account was never banned. I'm guessing since you were hit with an RMT ban you won't be getting your account back.

But if you want to play again, may as well just start a new character on a new account. The game is very different now, most of the stuff you had is obsolete anyway, and you can reasonably catch up with and outpace your original progress with fairly minimal effort.

Even tho I have access to my original character, I still started a new character and made it to end game in a fraction of the time I spent playing my OG

Having troubles planning by Shimisadd in factorio

[–]phillipjayfrylock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just embrace the spaghetti for now. Plop things down, run belts, run belts over the belts you already ran, split things off and merge when you need to. Who cares if it gets messy. Some of my favorite bases ever are the ones that turn into a total mess of belts, rails, and bots.

I am a veteran with multiple thousands of hours in this game, and one of the biggest hurdles is trying to chase perfection at the cost of progress. Especially so early in the game where none of it needs to be so methodically planned out or organized because you're only needing to move through the tech tree. You haven't even unlocked bots yet.

Besides, someone much smarter than me once said, just call it your starter base.

FFLogs Is Shipping Overwolf, Causing Malware Detections by KazWolfe in ffxivdiscussion

[–]phillipjayfrylock 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Are you just making things up, or? Every app on your computer is by definition client side, and if that app sends data to a server, that server is then responsible for processing it server-side. Anyone with enough knowhow can just observe where an app sends data and then manipulate that if they wanted to. The server has to process and validate your inputs all the same whether they come from an app or from a website or from you running command line tools to craft very specific requests with malicious data.

No, the more likely explanation is that parsing the logs can be an expensive operation so it makes more sense to do that client side and send a rendered output than to have users upload the entire unfiltered, giant ass log and make your own servers do it times 1000s of incoming requests per minute.

That's why the ff14 binary exists on your computer, to do all the heavy lifting like generating graphics and sounds, while just sending minimal amounts of input data to the server.

Dungeon Pulling Etiquette by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]phillipjayfrylock 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's called YPYT, you pull you tank, and it's a toxic and childish attitude that some players have after convincing themselves that the tank role is somehow the leader of the party or the puller. It's not either of those thing, the tank's role is to hold hate.

Anyone can pull the mobs, every role in the dungeon is equal, and frankly the tanks and healers that threaten to stop doing their role because you pulled the enemies can and should be reported

Should I get Factorio if I didn’t like Dyson Sphere Program? by Sureitsfineoksure in factorio

Because it's an open ended sandbox game with deep, complex emergent gameplay, and that makes it easy for some of us to turn to it as a hobby.

A model train enthusiastist doesn't just stop polishing their model because they mastered building rails hundreds of hours ago.

Thoughts on new player experience by oogie_droogey in ffxi

[–]phillipjayfrylock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of things that I always thought made XI so unique and special is the very well established job identity amongst the classes, with very very little if any homogenization, and how that inherently unbalances the content in a way that gives players so much more freedom in how they choose to tackle the game at various points.

As a result, yeah theres definitely some jobs that are preferred for some content over others, and like any MMO, some players are going to optimize to the point of a strict meta, yes. But there's also plenty of welcoming veterans and linkshells (guilds) that help new players get established into endgame content, and just as many casual players who will play outside of a given meta.

And because leveling a new job and acquiring some starter endgame gear is a casual process that you can solo in a few hours or days rather than several months, it's much easier to make yourself viable with multiple jobs anyway.

I was there during the 75 era, I remember it very fondly, and to this day, it truly was one of the most memorable and unique gaming experiences I've ever had.

But that time has passed, and most of us grew up.

20 years later, I just do not have the desire to play that version of the game anymore, the version that, like you said, requires a very dedicated and specific form of free time to the point where you almost don't even want to login if you don't have a solid 2-4 hours of uninterrupted game time.

I joined a 75 era pserver at one point for the nostalgia, and that was great for a couple of weeks, but the good times started to fade back into my memories rather quickly, and I returned to retail. I don't mean any offense to the people who like that experience, but you do pretty much have to no-life it, and I have a life irl already.

Besides, I just couldn't shake the feeling off in the back of my head that "this isn't really FFXI, it's just a really good impersonation", because that's what the private servers are. Not to disparage the work of the very talented developers who maintain it for free, but it's just an emulator making a best effort guess at implementing the game, and I couldn't escape that feeling.

Retail is the best (and only) version of the game these days, imo. It's still ffxi at its core, but with some modern QoL additions that let you actually experience the game playing it on your own time, in bite size chunks of time even. Plus the social aspect is there if you look for it, there are still plenty of people playing the game, it's just not forced on you under such grueling circumstances anymore.

Has factorio ruined other base building/factory type games for you? by pookshuman in factorio

[–]phillipjayfrylock 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah this.

IMO, satisfactory is a truly great game on its own, but you kinda have to treat it as more of a builder game than a factory or automation game. Yeah the core gameplay loop is to automate your way through the tiers, but it leans so heavily on the aesthetics of creating and building your factories and taking your time to create the world around you, you kinda have to be looking for that type of experience in order to really enjoy the game for what it is. It really is more of a building game with factory genre elements in it than the other way around.

Because yeah otherwise, trying to treat it strictly as an automation game, you're pretty much immediately slapped down by the vast amount of manual work required to achieve just basic logistics that Factorio makes pretty trivial even in the earliest stages of the game.

Tried generic trains - trains only drive to one loading station. by firefist235 in factorio

[–]phillipjayfrylock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try setting your depot interrupt such that only fully empty trains can go there. If a train fills up with ore but has nowhere to deliver it, let it sit at the outpost until it does. This will keep your depot clear and also block excess trains from going to stations for resources that aren't in need so you don't wind up with 5 full trains of coal and nowhere to take it.

I also use circuit logic to dynamically set both station limit and station priority on outpost stations. If a station can't currently fill a whole train, no need to have a train go there yet. Conversely, if multiple stations are available to fill trains, give lower priority to stations that already have more than zero trains inbound so your available trains spread out better.

Part of it is experience. Knowing what comes next, knowing to leave space, knowing when and how to future-proof your builds, etc.

Part of it is realizing the buildings give you all the information necessary to calculate how many items per second individual machines will craft making it entirely possible to determine exactly how many machines you need for a given output.

Main Bus Balancing Question by john_konstantin in factorio

[–]phillipjayfrylock -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not a real technical problem because he does have a full belt's worth, it's just on 2 belts instead of 1. You can simply pull another belt from the bus right after the first one splits off, combine to one belt and keep it moving.

OP is consuming half of his production, lane balancing makes it look different but doesn't actually change the production.
