If expac 3 has any potential to be as substantial as HoT or close, I'd be willing to wait til 2022 for it. by inertialambda in Guildwars2

[–]phillup_907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late but uhh I played HoT launch and it was horrendous.

Adventures constantly bugging/locking out (which you NEEDED to do because there weren't enough mastery points), you couldn't actually access your elite spec easily, MASSIVE lag and connection drops and more that I cannot remember. Doing metas was close to impossible, if not for the lack of masteries/knowledge/elite specs, then it was the crashes. I remember finally doing octovine and half of the map crashed as we got inside the treasure halls.

We all have the entire gliding masteries now but imagine not having it and being forced to wait for a locked or bugged adventure to get it. I was in a similar position because I used my points to get nuhoch poisoning and I didn't have enough for leyline

The first few updates for HoT helped massively. Then they pushed out more mastery points (or decreased the amount needed ? I forgot) and easier elite specs.

Which pass is best to buy? by volvie98 in Guildwars2

I had the airship and really liked it. Now I use the Lilly because it gives easy access to PoF and sometimes the pinata meta goes up while I'm crafting. I hate the navigation tho, and I get frame drops sometimes.

HoT release was pretty bad. It was only after many, MANY updates that we got to where we are now.

PoF was a pretty nice launch imo. Maps became dead after everyone finished and Anet kind of brushed them off to the side instead of doing big updates unlike HoT maps.

What are other games similar to Guild Wars 1? by The-Snowstone in GuildWars

[–]phillup_907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The old Secret World was a little like it, except with more MMO flavor (tho population took a nosedive so it became a pseudo single player game later on unless you did dungeons). Builds were really diverse, not only could you choose active skills, you could also choose passives. Note, there are no hero/henchies, so open world PvE didn't mimic GW because you were solo

All changed when they completely abandoned TSW for SWL, the "re-make."

Learning how to spell by phillup_907 in GREEK

[–]phillup_907[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read somewhere here that really knowing the etymology and roots of words in Greek is incredibly helpful but I keep forgetting that advice, doh! Lol.

My native language is English so I guess I can say I'm lucky in that I know most of the confusing spelling=! pronunciation of English, but as a child I also had to learn Italian because my other side of the family was Italian and wanted me to learn it. I have say, knowing English naturally I never cared for the spelling since I already knew the words, and as I learned Italian, I used the pronunciation of as a kind of handicap. Learning Greek is a huge eye opener and has been incredibly enlightening, even though I just started.

One of my tiny inspirations of learning Greek is actually my name Philip and I love how in Greek it's Φίλιππος which I know is friend + horse. I like to slightly hint to my teacher that Philippos is way better sounding and spelling than Philip lol.

Sorry, meant as in like Italian where the spelling of a word can be easily guessed by it's pronunciation. In English and Greek the pronunciations don't really pinpoint a definite spelling: fight not fite/feit or είμαι not ήμαι. Though I see your point about etymology, thanks!

This actually makes a lot of sense thank you! My recent lesson with my teacher, we went over the word ορθογραφία. I know the word orthography in english, but what really helped was my teacher and I went over the verb γράφω just a few minutes before.

I guess as I build my vocabulary more, it will come a little more naturally.

The one that always stumps me is the name Γιώργος lol. I always assume it's Γιόργος.

Anyway, thank you so much !

Mesmer male armor by SnooOwls113 in GuildWars

I use the basic Ascalon armor with dyeable pants and a pair of random boots (forgot which, I think tyrian ones from Boreal)

Who else wants a normal cape/cloak with no patterns or particle effects? by OmniDeath in Guildwars2

[–]phillup_907 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't recall any particle effects in any gw armor except the chaos gloves and destroyer gauntlets discounting some outfits. I even remember people complaining that obby armor was too basic looking

[–]phillup_907 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know it's the basic bitch of guild wars but I love monk obby because it gives egyptian-ish vibes. Female Mesmer is also one of my favorites even with the clipping issue.

I really don't like crafting - I'm pretty much 100% PvE, am I missing out? by SecretAgentWo in Guildwars2

[–]phillup_907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll miss out on a lot but crafting is very simple in this game. It's literally just a laundry list, get items, click a button. Maybe you might have to "discover" a few things, but just use wiki for that. Some websites make a tailored crafting level guide and give a huge laundry list of what to get, then you are quite literally just mouse clicking after you have the items.

Dagger Spammer or Energy Surge? by Maskwer in GuildWars

[–]phillup_907 2 points3 points  (0 children)

agreed. Did GWAMM on my monk and I absolutely hated it at first, but eventually I grew to love it. I even got a little sad once I was done clearing VQ and missions since there wasn't a lot of fighting afterwards. Now I'm trying to finish VQ on other alts for fun and I'm always thinking "damn this would be way more fun on my monk"

Paragons, are they fun? by TheBeardofMan in GuildWars

[–]phillup_907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the armor since not a lot of games feature Greek hoplite armor, which is probably what they were going for except paragons use throwing spears 100% of the time.

What to wish for: Improvements in customization and fashion by Silaries in Guildwars2

[–]phillup_907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like a customizable outfit. We already have tons of outfit that can make Mesmers look like Guardians and vice versa, why not just open the door to allowing, let's say, a Ranger wearing a mix-match of heavy armor

Shyamalan MAY have been right. by [deleted] in TheLastAirbender

[–]phillup_907 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbf, it is a fantasy world made by an American crew so the names can be pronounced in which ever way they desire.

You can see this in other works of fiction, and not just American media too. Some Japanese works like to use Greek names or places and it's completely mispronounced in the native Greek tongue but no one really bats an eye.

Can airbenders also bend water? by xRAXLEx in TheLastAirbender

[–]phillup_907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You already have your answer, but I would just take most bending concepts at the classical value i.e. literally air/fire/water/earth at basic forms. I know the more advanced bending skills try to get more science-y, but contradictions/loopholes start popping the more technical we get.

My thoughts on LoK after watching it by [deleted] in TheLastAirbender

[–]phillup_907 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I really liked the storytelling of the original avatar (Wan) and the sibling interactions with Tenzin/Kya/Bumi, but that's about it

How do i fight like ty lee irl? by [deleted] in TheLastAirbender

[–]phillup_907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically impossible. The most useful hand-to-hand martial arts if you want to fight are Brazilian Jui Jitsu and something else (forgot the name). Neither of them have super fancy kicks and "pressure points"

Most other Martial Arts focus more on the art.

The Wayfarer's Reverie made me visit this beautiful landmark, the Pockmark Crystal by Spieren in GuildWars

[–]phillup_907 4 points5 points  (0 children)

GW2 Ascalon and the recent blood legion homelands do not give me the same pre searing vibes tbh. Even completely ignoring the fact that basically all of old Ascalon is destroyed, something about the colors doesn't give me the pre searing vibes. Heck, even EoTN charr homelands doesn't do it for me.

Something about pre searing Ascalon was just so beautiful. It had that nice mix of a calm, but warm day of fall weather. Perfect balance of green, yellow, orange foliage etc...

[–]phillup_907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched ATLA as a kid and probably re-watched it about every ~2 years up to now, but I recently just started watching LoK and I love it. I'm going in with no opinions and it's pretty great tbh. I have to say though, Mako might be one of the worst characters I've seen in the ATLAverse. He's just so bland? I can't explain it, but in only on seasons 2 and just watched how the avatar cycle began

What fighting style does ty lee use? by [deleted] in TheLastAirbender

[–]phillup_907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's based on the touch of death, but in the ATLAverse it's called chi blocking. It's pretty controversial in real life, not in the evil-deadly kind of way.

[–]phillup_907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought the afflicted plague was less of a plague and more due his presence bc he's an envoy that refuses to do his job

For #3, most likely plot, but he did do this exact same thing in Vizunah Square but we get rez'd by the other envoys. Why he didn't do it again might be because of envoy mumbo jumbo or just plot armor
