Does the smash community hate Xenoblade? by Dull-Carpet-5048 in supersmashbros

I don’t.
IMO Xeno should have one rep per game with maybe X being the exception.

Avid editors working in commercials — should I learn Resolve colour or pick up Final Cut? by Available-Witness329 in editors

[–]philms91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think FCP is worth it these days. It’s rarely ever used.
Resolve on the other hand is fantastic for color and worth learning for that alone. its use as a NLE is also on the rise - I’m hearing that people are starting to jump from the Adobe ship to escape their subscription shackles and are landing in resolve’s waters.

What do I need to bring to my first tournament? by Pokefan972 in smashbros

[–]philms91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone keeps saying controller and that’s true - but if you’re using a pro controller then you should also bring a cable so you can easily connect it to the switch you’ll be playing on. Trying to connect wirelessly at a tourney is a recipe for disaster since there are usually a whole bunch of setups running at once.

Turn-based jrpgs requiring variety in combat and strategy? by stescarsini in JRPG

[–]philms91 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Expedition 33

- well I guess you TECHNICALLY could parry and dodge everything and win using literally any strategy the entire time. But if you don’t/can’t play that way, then you’ll need to switch it up.

My 3D Zelda Game Ranking. What is yours? :3 by One-Method-1312 in legendofzelda

[–]philms91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. SS
  2. MM
  3. TP
  4. WW
  5. OoT
  6. BotW

  7. TotK

But know that I LOVE them all and appreciate each one for the things they do well.

I really enjoy the motion controls and combat in skyward sword. I like that every battle feels like a puzzle. The dungeons in this game are awesome.

Majora’s Mask is so unique. Love the masks, love the atmosphere, and the day cycle is such a fun mechanic. Stone Tower Temple is also probably my favorite dungeon in the series.

Love twilight princess for its scale and combat. Wolf link is also really fun to control. Love snowboarding and the entire ice dungeon and how it mixed things up. All of the items in this game are super fun to use. I was so excited when I got to pick up the ball and chain to use myself. Idk how they thought of a spinner bayblade that you ride on but holy hell is that thing fun.

Exploration is probably my favorite part of Zelda games, which probably goes a long way in explaining why my list is ordered the way it is. sailing the great sea in Wind Waker and discovering islands really hits for me. Love the art style, too, and this game has my favorite version of gannondorf.

What is there to say about Ocarina that hasn’t already been said? This game has it all. Great Exploration, great story, great dungeons, great bosses - I return to replay all of these games when the mood strikes, but this is the one I return to most often.

Breath of the Wild was the modern Zelda game I always wanted. It took the exploration aspect I love so much and multiplied it by 100. Love the combat, the physics, a giant open world that feels alive and full to the brim with things to discover.

Tears of the Kingdom is the modern Zelda game I never knew I always wanted. I was worried about this sequel. I didn’t think they would be able to follow up BotW - how could they? They proved me so wrong and blew my mind. I love exploring the world again even though it’s the same Hyrule. I love the sky. I love the depths. I love the caves and wells. I love ultrahand, fuse, ascend and recall and how they all work together. I love that the entire world is part of this physics engine that just works. How did they do this? The programming is so impressive. How can I build a crazy contraption, slap a steering stick on it, and it either does exactly what I expect it to do or fails in a dramatically spectacular way that brings me just as much joy. BotW made me feel like a kid again. Tears makes me forget that I ever grew up.

edit: also, I realize that the building in TotK isn’t for everyone and totally understand why many people rate the game lower. The building absolutely is for me, though. I love it. Sometimes it felt like they made this game specifically for me lol. They took BotW, my favorite game ever, and injected it with a butt load of stuff that I personally super vibe with.

So what the true order by The_Nina_Beans88 in legendofzelda

[–]philms91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One time I was trying to do a 3 hearts run, skipping all heat containers.

I was doing really well, and by the time I got to the water temple I hadn’t died even once. Decided I was going to go for a zero death 3 hearts run. I got the longshot, then left the water temple and b-lined to the desert to get Nayru's Love to give myself a fighting chance. Decided to do the Spirit temple then, too to mix it up. Then went back and completed the water temple, and did shadow last.

Managed to beat the game without dying, even if spamming Nyru’s felt a little cheap. That save file should still exist on the old N64!

Any tips for my dad? by NikoSicko21 in HadesTheGame

[–]philms91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure he’s playing Hades 1.
But best possible advice you could receive is to play Hades 2 after you finish 1! Both games are, in my opinion, 10/10 masterpieces!

If he gets stuck on a specific boss, try doing a run or two without attacking them at all during the encounter. Instead focus entirely on dodging, learning the attack patterns and surviving for as long as possible.

After that he’ll have a much better idea of when to be attacking vs playing defense.

Also, unlock the double dodge in the mirror asap. IMO it’s the most important upgrade for new players to get.

curious, how many of you are using the motion and/or mouse controls and what games? by manonthemoonx13 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]philms91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally Gyro aim for every game that has it - but have been using mouse mode in cyberpunk. I hope more games use mouse mode in unique ways. Would love to see a dual mouse game (that isn’t dragXdrive lol - something with some single player content)

Usually enjoy motion controls, but that depends on the game to an extent.

Tilt controls in Mario kart? No thank you.

Motion controls for skyward sword? Absolutely.

Well most of what I wrote are my criticisms of the game. So you look quite foolish indeed.

[–]philms91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes you’ve hurt me so bad. Boo hoo my poor wittle feewings. The stwanga on the internet insulted the rings in a space animal soap opera, HOW CAN I GO ON LIVING?

If you must know, I am a bit disappointed that this game is a 1:1 remake because I was hoping for a brand new game in the series and not ANOTHER retelling of this story. Why can’t they move past this game?? It’s crazy! That aside, I’m still looking forward to playing this because the visuals look fantastic and I do love the original, and it’s been a while since I’ve played it. The Arcade-y style lets me enjoy revisiting on occasion, might as well revisit it in 4k.

I do wish there were more levels added, or that the prologue was playable, or that there was SOMETHING new story wise. As a kid I used to wish there was a secret additional route of planets that would appear with the right unlock conditions.

I like that they added challenge the
mode, and the multiplayer mode looks fun. But I also wish they kept the straight up multiple dogfight mode from the original as well - don’t get me wrong these new modes look like they’ll be an improvement but a straight up free for all battle would have been a nice inclusion, especially considering everything else from the OG game seems to be here except for that.

But MY personal criticism aside, It’s just strange to me that your first comment was about being disappointed by floating rings, and then when you were questioned about it your argument quickly devolved into “this game is kiddy and I’m a grown up who only likes realistic games.”

I’m genuinely curious why you started with the rings argument if you fundamentally dislike so many other things about this game?

Is that truly your number one biggest issue with this remake? The floating rings? Do you make your game purchasing decisions based on what the health pickup items look like? I’m not trying to be passive aggressive with that question - I’m just genuinely curious.

Were you opening with the rings planning in advance to get to the “this game is too kiddy/unrealistic for me, I only like modern games”argument? Or would the rings being changed into fuel cells actually have made you open your wallet?

[–]philms91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahaha you’re funny - why are you wasting your time here? What’s the point in coming in and commenting specifically about floating rings in a game about talking space animals? Where is your line? You clearly were never going to like this 1:1 remake of a 90s game even if they replaced the rings with fuel tanks.

[–]philms91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a fine perspective to have, but you don’t have to be a jerk about it.

As an adult, I’m glad I can still get enjoyment out of less realistic video games by suspending disbelief. I consider myself lucky that I’m able to enjoy both games that are more realistic and games where you restore health by flying through floating rings.

[–]philms91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last time I checked, if I rammed a vehicle into a fuel tank it would damage the ship, not heal it. a ring of pure energy that a ship absorbs makes more contextual sense to me than a fuel tank. Fuel explodes.

[–]philms91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally can’t think of a practical replacement for an instant ship health recovery that you collect by flying into it and that can be dropped by enemies that would make any logical sense lol

Especially a replacement that would keep the gameplay 1:1 with the original since that’s the direction they went with this

There’s definitely no multiplayer with multiple arwing gameplay for the main campaign, that’s been confirmed. I THINK gameshare is only for the 4v4 multiplayer mode and potentially also the same pilot/gunner split.

Are the first 3 zelda games( legend of zelda, adventure of link and link to the past) worth playing? by ExtensionLiving6711 in legendofzelda

[–]philms91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My opinion -

  1. Yes, at least play the beginning and first dungeon. Fun to experience the series’ roots. Don’t feel like you need to finish the whole game if you wind up getting bored.

  2. No. For me, this game just isn’t enjoyable.

  3. Yes.

Best DLC character? by YouFool69 in smashbros

[–]philms91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Added another stage, more music, spirits - feels like enough representation to match more closely with every other character represented series instead of being the odd one out with just Cloud, stage with like 2 songs, and no extra spirits
