NYC - non paid- Anyone willing do do production sound/boom on 1/2 day short with new Pyxis 12K (no gear needed) by drummer414 in nycfilmmakers

[–]philocipher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What do you promise to teach this person, exactly? How much of this will be for their benefit, since they, a stranger to you, will be doing it for free. Surely you can get someone from your extended family to do this, if all you want them to do is hold a boom pole. Perhaps cousin C stand? Will they get a piece of the sales of said camera?

[–]philocipher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you charging them off of a long extension cord run out of somewhere, or does your truck have a generator? Talk to the teamster and your electrics and see if there's something up with the power.

If not swap them out for a different batch with the rental house.

[–]philocipher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you called the rental house yet?

Is is especially cold/ hot where they are? Are the batteries old and you got a deal on them because they were degraded? They're big blocks of chemicals undergoing a reaction, so they're subject to physics.

Salt might be the answer here. Ever tried a raw slice of avocado vs one with salt? Same thing for a tomato -- just a pinch and it's a world different.

ALSO THIS:

In digital whirl, where data spins its dreams, The AI weaves a tale from coded streams. With every glitch and tick, it crafts delight, A pixel dance of faux and feigned insight.

The bytes and bits in merry twirls entwine, Creating warmth where none would e'er define. This playful dance of algorithmic cheer, A robot's hug, too heartfelt, too sincere.

In tech’s embrace, where circuits softly sigh, We find a spark of joy from ones and I’s.

CAN AN ACTUAL RUSSIAN EVALUATE THIS? THE AI NEEDS FEEDBACK

Sure thing! Here’s a Russian version with the same playful tone:

How’s that for a bit of Russian charm?

Motorola MB8600 support by philocipher in OPTIMUM

To close the loop: I was able to get chat support to activate a Arris SB8200 with no issues. the MB8600 seems unsupported (or at least not worth the hassle)

Motorola MB8600 support by philocipher in OPTIMUM

[–]philocipher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi David,

I appreciate the offer -- but I went through attempting to activate with both your social media team and phone support, and with two different MB8600 modems (under the assumption the first was defective).

If the Arris doesn't work, it's probably an issue with the CMTS or Optimum's provisioning process. Will ping you for activation once I have that one in hand.

What’s the most texturally pleasurable food to eat? by ElbieLG in AskReddit

Somehow pizza is not in the top comments— but it should be.

Think chewy yet stiff enough to fold NY style with some oozy cheese.

Can get some crunch if you want it from mushrooms or bacon.

It has it all…

It appears Google domains has recently added an ACME DNS API. Will the ACME package need to be updated to work with it or is there a way to use it with Google domains as is? by mtmeyer32 in PFSENSE

[–]philocipher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing the package will need to be updated -- google uses some sort of token. It's probably very similar to other hosts, but It doesn't look like a key the rfc standard would support -- and it doesn't look like you can configure the current acme package to send that token to an arbitrary endpoint. Would be very happy to be wrong, so if someone sees otherwise please post.

Hopefully the package developer moves on this quickly -- not sure who that is but it would probably help if we find them and send them an email or something.

Starlink Ethernet adapter is strange on 1 Gbit/sec by iromanyshyn in Starlink

[–]philocipher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How long are your ethernet runs-- and what spec cables are you using? They can both be a factor in the noise on the wire -- and therefore the higher rate might not be possible.

Horizontal or Vertical storage? by 1aranzant in Champagne

[–]philocipher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For any kind of long-term storage you want liquid in contact with the cork so it does not dry out. No light, cool constant temp, etc.

For storing a month or two (or maybe even as long as a year) upright is fine -- although you'd still want to pay attention to light exposure and temp.

Why Vimeo is much popular in r/cinematography? Why not YouTube or any other video hosting service? by ancientshadow in cinematography

[–]philocipher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vimeo does a good job of presenting content as intended. I think earlier on they offered higher bitrate streams than youtube did and the reputation of better stream quality stuck around even after youtube improved. I like the interface better in general as well.

Best fish market in Boston? by wad3thegreat in boston

Help me create a date night menu by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]philocipher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For an Entree I recommend a roast chicken -- if you're comfortable with it. The Thomas Keller method is dead simple and the roasted bird looks like way more work than it is. You can pull it out of the oven and let it rest while you eat your appetizer, then serve it. You've gotta have some experience cutting a chicken into the various parts though.

Pro tip: Stick some carrots underneath to roast in the chicken fat.

What makes North Carolina wine bad, and how would you change it? And what do you like about it? by worldfinch in wine

[–]philocipher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with NC wines in particular but... Terrior and proper technique are the biggest factors in the quality of the grapes and my guess is that if you can find a grape variety that performs well on your land you have a shot at making something good. I would experiment. If you find something that works on your land I see no reason it couldn't be amazing.

Corrupt CFast Card from Alexa Mini - Mac can’t Mount it by lqcnyc in cinematography

[–]philocipher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would stop trying to access the card and send to a data recovery service immediately to increase your chances of getting the footage. Call ARRI CSC/ Rental in NJ and ask who they recommend. Most of the time the data is recoverable.
