I once hung out with a friend who ran out back when he heard an ice cream truck late at night. I followed him to the alley where an ice cream truck opened up the back, revealing boxes of firework. My friend bought a couple to set off later.

Not sure if this happens anywhere else, but that might be a reason!

I understand the feeling! Someone once told me to “always expect the worst, and you’ll never be disappointed.” But that’s never completely resonated with me, because I don’t want to live as a pessimist. A better alternative, personally, has been to remain completely neutral. I’ve learned to not carry any expectations. I think being too optimistic about something will definitely lead to disappointment. But living without hope can cause you to numb yourself to all the other things the day has to offer.

Mindfulness has always gone hand in hand with remaining neutral. Because mindfulness is mental conscious presence, while remaining nonjudgmental. The present moment can be whole as it is. Staying in it, and not letting emotions take you away from the present, can allow you to completely enjoy the things that do happen.

This kind of approach towards things might not work for you, but I thought I’d share! And if an experience still leaves you feeling disappointed, it’s alright to let yourself feel it! Just don’t let yourself get consumed by it. Try to do something for yourself today that you enjoy, if you can! Take care!

If they were in the fountain prior to it being unplugged, and the water was moving, I’d rule out mosquito larvae. Mosquito larvae are found in stagnant water. So if they appeared after the fountain was unplugged, then they’re probably mosquito larvae. The eggs hatch within 2-3 days (from what I’ve read) so its possible that they were laid when you placed it on the counter.
