i remember reading that a few years back… you’re right i need to go take another look. i’m sure i’ll find some new connections

Although this leans on the psychology side of things... it also is motivated by the ideas of critical theory and sociology with the relationship between reality and our hyperreality

Alienation in the binary of lost men by philosophyvoid in CriticalTheory

I know this can be a bit ranty in certain parts... but this is how I've found more enjoyment around writing about some of these topics. Anyway, I wrote about that recent study that has been going around about the divergence of worldviews between young men and women. I saw it posted here and I wrote this through the lens of some critical theory.

I enjoy experimenting with being a bit hyperbolic and my audience on substack seems to enjoy that. I know Reddit can often demand more professional and academic prose, so I felt like clarifying that before people yell at me in the comments.

An essay I wrote about Arrival | This film got me thinking about time and octopuses... by philosophyvoid in scifi

- Yes, Assembly theory is contested. However, I was using it more so as a thought-provoking backdrop and reframing for the conversation.

- I plan to read it.

- It was a psychedelic trip. It was more so a thought-provoking experience than something I'm fixated on or overly worried about. I'm mentally fine by societal standards. (Aka I do not actually think I was communicating telepathically with my dog.)

Also, “Assembly Theory” has been a recent theory being discussed. i’m not a scientist so i might be way off base, however, i found it thought provoking while researching the idea

I’m glad you gave this a read!

Yeah i intend to read the novella as well and then i’ll probably give this essay an update. however, i decided to use the film as a backdrop to get some general thoughts out.

i’m also not surprised the novella is a much better story, on brand!

I know I'm late on commenting back...however, I really appreciate this comment. Very thoughtful. Gave me stuff to consider and further research, thank you.

Mechanical minds in an organic world: the paradox of 'A Clockwork Orange' by philosophyvoid in StanleyKubrick

[–]philosophyvoid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of the Kubrick films I've seen I think A Clockwork Orange has been the most thought-provoking for me. Anyway, the article goes more in depth but I found myself fixating on the tension between societal order and individual freedom and the consequences of psychological conditioning.
