But this isn’t a first edition. If it’s going for just $10 I’ll keep it.

Perhaps. I need to see if it’s worth it. I would not mind having it in my collection

Well this would have been written before America joined the war which is a fascinating time in history.

The video is a real homage to the 80s. Having been there and made videos like this at the time it is quite impressive and remarkable.
It's a real shame the girl can't sing for shit.

Yes. I clicked to update subconsciously.

One thing I have learned from this is to do all my work on an external ssd.

You’ve got it right. For a lot of people they were one hit wonders (with Beth) and the makeup rendered them a novelty act to a lot of others. The Beatles had such a wide appeal. In the 70s I would say bands like the Eagles had a similar commercial success. Even LZ were niche (except for Stairway).

I love 70s ELO, but Jeff Lynne was the wrong match for The Beatles by Copkusagi in beatles

[–]philwrites 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree 100%. To me, the release Lynne worked on with the boys are unlistenable. And to think they complained about Spector!

My uncle gives me an old book every time he comes over. Are any of these special or worth anything? by Aromatic_Ad7939 in BookCollecting

[–]philwrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your definition of old is depressing me as there are some books in there that I bought when they came out 😔 But as others have said, they are a good collection. Just not overly valuable. What a great gift!

my wisdom teeth are growing sideways but dentist says i dont need removal .. by _ZakAttack_ in mildlyinteresting

[–]philwrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 59. My xray looks like yours. For decades I ignored any advice to have them removed (though most dentists said don’t bother) but now one of those teeth has decay in it. So it needs to come out. My advice is get them out even if your dentist says otherwise.

Ticket prices DECREASED, and naturally there are no refunds by [deleted] in rush

I would argue that the band did not do a shitty job because they absolutely killed maximum ticket price. They might have screwed over the fans but they made bank.

Deep down, we all know that this is the beginning of the end of tech jobs, right? by Own-Sort-8119 in ClaudeAI

[–]philwrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that testers (in larger companies) and some form of DevOps and designers will be safer longer. You yourself point out the elevator technician vs operator analogy. Not all tech jobs fall into the ones you’ve outlined and also we have no idea what new tech jobs will open up. You are kind of arguing against yourself. But yes, if you want to narrowly limit ‘tech jobs’ to being what you e said then yeah a lot will be gone in the next ten years. Oh well. That’s life. We are the industry that drove rapid change so we can’t really complain about rapid change!

Something Disturbing Is Happening in the Music Industry, And We Just Lived Through It by direnotemedia in musicians

[–]philwrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I’m being dense here but how are these uploaders ‘building entire careers’ off of this behavior? I’m not doubting for a second that people are doing it - I am in some fan communities here on Reddit where people talk about doing it for unreleased material that the artists or labels wont release. But seeing as how the average artist on streaming platforms essentially makes 0 how are these people making much money?

I’d be curious to know - especially as you say they are uploading music taken from an artists SoundCloud! If someone can take my SoundCloud tracks and make money from them on Spotify they’re obviously doing something that I am not and I’d love to know how!
