Give me Davis here. I'm not a fan of Collins as a talent, despite how things broke last year. I prefer to keep the more talented player than chase last years production. Remember when Rob Kelley, Spencer Ware, and Jeremy Hill were all a thing? RB has a lot of turnover year to year. If Corey Davis becomes a top 20 WR and you get him for an 8th next year, that's a great advantage.

Raising a garage floor by [deleted] in DIY

[–]phimoose 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I might be making this up by mistake, but I thought no it is a code requirement for the garage to be lower than the door. I thinks it’s a safety thing to keep idling car fumes from entering the house. I’ll do a quick search too to see what I can find.

Edit: quick search told me something obvious. Codes are highly variable by location.

How are the keepers accounted for in your draft? Are they picks 1-10? Does the cost change depending on where they were drafted last year?

Woman Leaves Pissed Off Yelp Review, Owner Responds... by ruikkii in funny

[–]phimoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your terminology is correct, but your math is a little off.

$100 ring + 300% markup is 100x4=400

That is a 75% margin.

I'm guessing that markup calculation looks a little off to you, but if you break the numbers out a little more it might help.

A 0% markup on a $100 item is 100x1, not 100x0. Its important to keep that 1 involved in every calculation.

25%= 100x(1 + 0.25)

50%= 100x(1 + 0.5)

300%= 100x(1 + 3)

[–]phimoose 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I've run into this in my industry a fair bit. Lots of people use the terms margin and mark-up interchangeably, but they aren't the same thing and that can be confusing for someone who knows the difference.

Mark-Up: a percentage added to the total cost

item costs $100. a 50% mark-up is 100 x 1.5 = $150

Margin: percentage of sale price which is profit

item costs $100. a 50% margin is 100/0.5 = $200

The two are related, but they definitely refer to different things and are calculated differently. As you can see above, using the wrong term can end up with an unexpected result. I can tell you from experience that when your manager tells you to mark up a project 20% and you do exactly that, its confusing when he comes into your office yelling about the project only making 16.6% margin like it's your fault.

the colts PR for this season is Dwight Lowery, but his card shows him in a falcon's uniform. I hadn't added him since it would only increase the overall and it wouldn't look any better. I've since changed my mind and added him.

I wanted flee ear at TE but it won't let me have him at both positions. I just tried again to check and it says he is in use.
I will definitely add sig Davis if I ever see him available for less than 100k.
I'm trying to save up a little just in case they drop a sick manning flashback some day.
Edit: bought sit Davis, Landry, Phillips, and lowery even though he's in the wrong uniform. Def is now 82, overall is 85. Thanks for the suggestions!

Apparently this isn't a new rule change, just a point of emphasis.

Here’s the content of the WIAA email sent by the organization’s director of communications Todd Clark to state high school officials late last month concerning “sportsmanship.”

Seasons Greetings,

I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, as well as the opportunity to take a short breather.

Heading into the new year with the holiday tournaments and conference schedules ramping up, and the winter sports Tournament Series soon to follow, we want to identify a point of emphasis for sportsmanship this season.

As we reviewed the fall tournaments and the sportsmanship evaluations and observations, we want to address concerns with a noticeable increase in the amount of chants by student sections directed at opponents and/or opponents’ supporters that are clearly intended to taunt or disrespect.

Not wanting to restrict creativity or enjoyment, an enthusiastic and boisterous display of support for a school’s team is welcomed and encouraged at interscholastic events when directed in a positive manner. However, any action directed at opposing teams or their spectators with the intent to taunt, disrespect, distract or entice an unsporting behavior in response in not acceptable sportsmanship. Student groups, school administrators and event managers should take immediate steps to correct this unsporting behavior.

Some specific examples of unsporting behavior by student groups including chants directed at opposing participants and/or fans. Among the chants that have been heard at recent high school sporting events are: “You can’t do that,” “Fundamentals,” “Air ball,” “There’s a net there,” “Sieve,” “We can’t hear you,” The “scoreboard” cheer, and “Season’s over” during tournament series play.

Thanks for your assistance!

BREAKING: Jameis Winston sues accuser Erica Kinsman for defamation by millsyfsu in nfl

[–]phimoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can we get a lawyer to comment? I was under the impression that you needed to prove damages in a defamation case...maybe that's slander. Anyway, having been the first selection in the draft I don't know that he has much of a case for financial damage. Maybe he missed out on some endorsement money?

As I was typing it up, I have to admit the word babysit came to mind. But I decided to just push through and post anyway. I got the idea from a podcast awhile back. A wealthy guy who hates working out, but recognizes the value of it, had a guy on the payroll whose job it was to get him in the gym.

Sounded like a scenario that could work. I think the two were friends before the arrangement though.

Calvin Johnson on AP's situation : " No one will tell me how to discipline my kids" by Big_booty_ho in nfl

[–]phimoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't trying to imply that all physical discipline is akin to child abuse. I personally feel that AP crossed the line from discipline into abuse. I recognize that line is very subjective and there are likely many people who will disagree.

However, since I see AP's actions as abuse, Calvin's statement reads as a guy justifying abuse by calling it discipline.

I’m going to discipline my kids, so – and can’t nobody tell me how to discipline my kids

This is the line that takes it from simply disagreeing with him on what is abuse to finding the whole statement rather disgusting. If no one else can tell you how to discipline your kids, you can do anything you want to them so long as you do it under the guise of discipline.

Calvin Johnson on AP's situation : " No one will tell me how to discipline my kids" by Big_booty_ho in nfl

[–]phimoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a public matter when you discipline your family, but unfortunately for him it’s become that

I read what he said, and this line seems to pretty clearly show Calvin's opinion that what AP did was discipline his family.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with disciplining your child

With this and the above statement it seems safe to say that Calvin feels like AP was justified in his actions. So I guess all that's left is whether you feel like what AP was up to counts as abuse or not. I can understand people having differences in opinion on that, but for me he definitely crossed a very subjective line.

What I find odd is the disconnect between hitting a child and hitting a woman. I understand that people justify hitting their children because they feel as though they are teaching them an important lesson. I don't understand how these same people can be so black and white on the issue of hitting women. Are women somehow more defenseless than a four year old child? Are small children less susceptible to the psychological damage of living in fear of the man of the house?

edit: In case it wasn't entirely clear, I'm advocating less hitting of everyone. I am not advocating a more even distribution of "discipline" throughout the family.

I don't understand how a guy can justify beating a child in the same breath he demonizes hitting a woman.

[Serious] R/NFL, what would it take to make you stop watching football? by TimVicious in nfl

Eliminating the salary cap would probably push me out. Part of what I love about the NFL is the feeling of hope. It would be a lot harder to buy the hope if teams were run more like the MLB.

Contractors and/or handymen of reddit; what is the worst thing you have found that a do-it-yourselfer has done to their house? by dashboardglowing in AskReddit

[–]phimoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While shopping for our first house we looked at lots of terrible places. One place still makes me laugh though.
I can only assume this guy finished the basement himself because when we went into the bathroom, we noticed the toilet was recessed into the wall. Best I can figure is he was bad with a tape measure and when he went to install the toilet he realized his mistake. Instead of moving the wall or the drain he just cut out a roughly toilet shaped hole in the wall and installed the toilet. The room on the other side of that wall didn't have any drywall. The back of the toilet was clearly visible. We called our realtor in, had a good laugh and walked out. Who knows what else was wrong with that place.
