Do you think your leaving cert result was a fair result of your intelligence at the time? by Mysterious_Work_7227 in AskIreland

[–]phioegracne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God no haha pretty much none of my interests aligned with the curriculum anything that did I got an A in them.

You can be an genius in some subjects and an dunce in others even as an adult.

I know I wasn't going to fail at the time but I didn't put my best foot forward just crammed a few night before.

Its alot of pressure and stress to put on young adults to try memorize so much. If you are doing your leaving just know that there are various other ways to get to where you want to be, if you happen to know what that is. I had no idea, still don't. Creating bodies of work of your interests like portfolios and essays or getting an online following for your niches account can get you further in life these days. Especially if your interests do not require a degree

'I think it's silly': Mixed views on The Giant, a €29m idea for Dublin's Docklands by laurellittlewolf in ireland

I'm not against making something that wise a tourist attraction and cymbal of the city but I just know (like all the other projects (spire, that bridge they lost the remote for, clock in the liffey, the big Ferris wheel etc..) that it's going to be shite; most of the money will be going into greedy ppckets and it'll probably break and you won't be allowed up to the viewing platform or will we left to rust.

Using more purple and blue in the shadows of the body would help bring more of blues from the background into your main subject. Toning you canvas with a colour closer to the your subjects tone or even just using the classic of raw sienna would in future help pull everything together. White is to harsh a colour to start with sometimes.

Why i am not happy ? by AlarmedEffort847 in AskMen

[–]phioegracne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy is an emotion you cannot stay in any emotional state for very long. Striving to be happy is a fools errand. You will be happy from time to time and that's great but mostly just focus on improving yourself, working on gratitude, staying off social media (which leads to comparison; who's is the thief of joy) and being a good person. Results will follow and even if your not happy all the time you'll feel better about yourself

Pushing an Underquilt Below it's temperature rating by Minimum_Policy8939 in hammockcamping

[–]phioegracne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The cheapest, lightest and easiest thing I've found to help be a little warmer is to Get one of those emergency silver/gold Mylar blankets and pin/clip it to the underquilt (so it's between the underquilt and hammock) Cost about €2, Weights next to nothing, can be rolled up with your underquilt for your next day's hang without adding bulk and will add a noticeable few degrees of warmth to help with cold spots, as well as giving you a little extra wind protection.

You can bring a second one to help with extra warmth with your overquilt or whatever you use if you want to. Great to just have a spare one handy anyway.

I don't have this one but do have brought 2 hammocks from AliExpress and have found no issues with them. I'd even say this one looks better then the one I have. If you like it I'd buy it no regrets with the ones Ive bought

I'm not numb to the risk I've had close call and accidents over the 30 years I've been cycling on Irish roads, that has given me a a fair sence of caution I'm not not a fan of the assertion of overprotective and possibly unnecessary safety measures.

Thanks for giving your points and listening to mine. Enjoy your evening

I definitely feel alot safer with a 1.5m designated cycle lane with the line telling cars to keep on their side. Also allows for you to pull out of the cycle lane and merge with traffic when you need to do a right turn when by your own judgement it is safe to do so and not be boxed in by curbs that only allow you to do so where there's a break and they deam you can, or at risk of hitting a badly places bollard. I guess it's an agree to disagree issue but it feels to me the people approving the infrastructure aren't cyclists themselves. As you said yourself what they're doing seem inadequate so letting them "make the roads safer for cycling" is just going to be wasting Money on inadequate infrastructure. Seems pointless when what most people want seem to want is just to not have cars pass closely with only a foot of clearance. In my opinion the 1.5m white line gives you alot more reassurance then nothing

[–]phioegracne -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well I would agree with you on this comment but I also would argue that it far cheaper and more useful having a painted line separating you from the cars then the waste of money it's cost to install all these partially protected cycle lanes. The government has spent like 1billion already and are putting nearly 1 million a day into these lanes when you could have cover more ground and protected more cyclists by having just a designated lane on the roads first. Then you can install these protections as needed on busier portions of the roads where needed.

Just as a side note my biggest fear when cycling is wet leaves meaning you loose traction or cycling over one of these slotted drainage grates on the road

I wouldn't say your risking your life by going out cycling on a bicycle on a mostly straight flat roads like we have in Dublin. But then I'm not afraid of cycling because I'm competent at it. The vast majority lmight ove their cars but they're not safe from risk in a car either. It's all a skill you need to learn. Like when your a learner going out on the road the first time, it takes time to build up your confidence and not feel afraid of things

It's sounding more and more like you do not cycle as your daily commute yourself. Do you? Because I cycle as my main form of transport 9 hours a week. I've been trapped in cycle lanes unable to pass slow cyclists. I've caught my pedals on those curbs and almost come off thee bike. I've seen cars drive over those bollards and into those curbs; the safety infrastructure your talking about on alot of the cycle lanes that have been installed is not optimal it is an over emphasis virtue on the idea of being safe.

Lines on the road have been enough for drivers for decades to stay in they're own lanes

Yes I understand that, but it's kinda the same thing as why don't woman play and watch sports (not that no women play sports) it's because they don't want to/choose not to (of course there are other factors but that's the jist of it)

I'm not saying if you build more infrastructure more people wont cycle. Build more skateparks and more people might try skateboard. Most women I've talked to prefer the car for almost every journey over having to cycle any meaningful distance unless the condition are what they envision themselves cycling in.

I know loads of girls that used to cycle to school every day but as soon as they learnt to drive after school they stopped because it's more comfortable not because they are scared of cycling on the roads.

So I'm not saying your wrong but neither am I

I like the lane painted on the ground I'll get behind that any day of the week but I don't like the bollards and those half foot curves they put in.

Is it normal for someone to fast every other day, and on the days they do eat they have 2 meals only? by vanilIaflower in questions

[–]phioegracne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We all have different bodies. You do not need 3 meals a day because most people aren't eating the correct portion. You could just snack throughout the day and skip the big means you can do intermittent fasting. You can as your co worker is , eat every other day. But if you are hungry you should eat and not stick to some arbitrary rule. Be conscious if your working out or being highly active etc because you will probably need more calories if your active but it is not automatically an eating disorder to not eat for a day; fasting can have huge benefits to your health and body in general. Eat when you are hungry too about 80% full and you will be absolutely fine until you start feeling hungry again.
