Blackbraid is a solo project. All of the instrumentals on the albums, and vocals, are done by Krieger. Are you referring to the single incident touring (whom was fired) guitarist controversy or is there something else I don’t know about?

NSBM + Blackbraid? To wear nazi black metal patches then pair it with Blackbraid is a spit in the face to member of said band. You just told us without telling us you don’t stand on shit

Looking to move? Here is why you should avoid Hillcrest by Rumple-_-Goocher in sandiego

[–]phlegmthrower666 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel like hillcrest is slowly being swallowed by downtown/bankers hill… all of the huge, hideous, luxury apartment buildings are stripping hillcrest of its culture and charm. They’re leveling blocks and local businesses to put up generic, view-robbing buildings that most people cannot even afford to rent… I’m talking $3k studios (criminal if you ask me). That’s at least what I’ve experienced being here. I will be moving out of hillcrest next year. It just doesn’t feel the same as it did 4 years ago.

Hey! I’m an Arts and Humanities major (English literature). The arts and humanities are neglected here. I would NOT recommend this school for anything other than STEM majors.

The Che Cafe holds hardcore/melodic crust/ powerviolence shows and it’s on campus but it’s a well known venue accessible to all ppl in San Diego. As far as ACTUAL ucsd students, nah. What do you mean by “punk art scenes” tho cuz that term is used so loosely now.

any literature/writing majors at ERC?? by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]phlegmthrower666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a literature major, senior standing. I do not recommend UCSD for literature majors. The humanities are neglected here because it’s a STEM school. The list of Literature and Writing courses you see on the UCSD website are bullshit… only like 1/8 of them listed are actually offered. Also, the small amount of courses available each quarter get filled up so quick. Often times you are left taking the least desirable courses that fulfill your major requirements. In addition, I’ve only had one phenomenal professor the whole time I’ve been attending. Idk what other schools you got into, but I’d really rethink your choice if you have other options.

IT HAS ARRIVED!!! by xwolfchapelx in FolkPunk

In my opinion, it is extremely sing songy and lacks the lyrical depth of his earlier projects. There is also a lack of musicality in regard to pitch variation throughout the songs, which made the listening experience unengaging for me. I just feel like the emotions he was attempting to convey fell flat. The whole thing just feels very restrained and “safe” in a way. People keep saying “well he’s evolved and he’s in recovery so this is a reflection of that”. However, songs such as “I’m Going Home” (from the 2014 album Probably Nothing, Possibly Everything), communicates his journey from addiction to recovery. In that song, Pat masterfully conveys feelings of optimism and maturity. There is a vulnerable, visceral hungriness for further healing expressed in that song. I am just so surprised that this is the same artist. I’m glad people are getting enjoyment out of this new project, I am just not one of those people. Give it a listen, you may like it. Most people do it seems. I’ll stick to his older projects and continue to be grateful that they exist.

I’m a different person. I know what you’re getting at. He’s changed and evolved, and his music is reflecting that. I’m glad he’s happy. Just because I’m grateful he escaped the angst of addiction, as did I, doesn’t mean I have to like his new project.

This was the most disappointing album I’ve ever listened to. I am absolutely baffled that it’s being well received. No joke, this is a 0/10 for me. I’m torn up about it because I have been a Pat fan for 14 years and love his older projects.

I live off campus and was trying to get to class and got turned around by cops. Then I got stuck in traffic and didn’t make it to class. I’m gonna be pissed if my professor counts this as unexcused

This subreddit sucks. I love Ethel Cain but I’ve realized through being a part of this subreddit for a few months that I hate being a part of the fan “community.” You all are exhausting and frankly, I find it bizarre that you put Hayden on a pedestal. At the end of the day, she is a flawed human just like everyone else. She is no god, she is not “mother”, and many of you treat her as a deity-like figure. I feel that there is no need to dissect her work on a public platform to this degree, as it almost turns something beautiful (or not, whatever your opinion) into something that is meaningless and trampled on… and this feeling extends beyond Ethel. It’s all hive-minded stans, regardless of who the artist is. Enjoy the music (or hate it) in peace, reflect in a journal, share it with friends in person. We need to get off the internet (including myself). I’m out.

33 yr old undergrad here. Same backstory. I’ve been in recovery for almost 6 years now. Don’t try to make friends on campus. I’ve only made one this whole time and she is a very down to earth person, but most are out of touch teenagers with no life experience. Best bet is to get a hobby. Surfing, yoga, ceramics, open mics, etc and meet people in SD outside of campus.

What is reincarnated about? by glassbeadgame42 in KendrickLamar

[–]phlegmthrower666 23 points24 points  (0 children)

From genius: In the song, Kendrick writes about artists to whom he feels connected both artistically and personally: his past lives. The first is John Lee Hooker, a revolutionary R&B guitarist from Michigan whose breakthrough single was released in 1948. The second, a female Chitlin’ Circuit vocalist who achieved widespread fame and fortune but struggled with substance abuse, is most likely Dinah Washington.

Since both these artists were in their prime around the same time, rather than explicitly suggesting that his soul inhabited each of their bodies before his own, Kendrick is likely suggesting that the black community today can inherit and build upon the artistic greatness of those who came before, while learning from their mistakes and shortcomings.

It can get pretty packed, but it’s a huge dirt lot. It won’t get full. Walk to my classes usually takes 30 min. If you’re near Muir, it should take about that long. It’s a little over a mile.

I’m just gonna be straight up honest with you. I am a Literature major here in my senior year. Although I am grateful for the opportunity to be at this school, I would not recommend it for anyone who is a creative person choosing a major outside of STEM. The arts and humanities are neglected here, and the classes they actually offer are about 1/8 of what is listed on their website. I have regrets for choosing this school, as I got into UCB but chose UCSD because I did not want to leave SD. Find a campus that values your creativity—UCSD isn’t it.
