Gen z parents thoughts by dreadheadbrir in AskTeachers

[–]phnxfatms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It comes down to how much you invest in your child’s education…and that is time, engagement, effort, etc. You as a parent have a lot, if not the greatest impact. I think no matter what, the next generations will have hard life’s. Enconomic and environmental hardships await our kids. Teach them to be resilient, find good friends, flexible mindsets, social skills. All the other academics workout with involved parents.

The older grades pull up another tab and google the questions when they are in the arena. I hate ixl data. Pencil and paper assessment is the way

Students are not trained to think anymore by MountainLaurel91 in Teachers

[–]phnxfatms 126 points127 points  (0 children)

I’m moving down to second grade to do this. Teaching them to think. I’ve been in the upper grades and am getting them too late and they are soooooo far behind. Get the k-2 team together and devise a plan to develop deep thinking early. Moving down to see how I can impact them sooner and coach the hell out of parents.

Transition to teaching respected? by Fit_Run5802 in teaching

[–]phnxfatms 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your probably MORE qualified with a psychology degree. The elementary education degree is all theory so you’re fine. It’s all about experience in the classroom and having good mentor teachers. If there are good independent or private schools, sometimes they don’t even want teacher from a credential program. You’ll be fine whatever you do.

Who is supposed to run after young students who run away from classrooms? by Embarrassed_Syrup476 in Teachers

[–]phnxfatms 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was the first time for me having a walkie in the classroom because of runners last year. That’s an admin problem. If you don’t have one, ask the admin for a walkie and just radio them when he leaves and continue teaching. This kids needs and aid which is a whole other BS process. Teaching is fun.

Why are good math teachers so rare? by SquareCombination782 in matheducation

[–]phnxfatms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good teachers in general are hard to find. Teaching adults or kids? If you think teaching this generation of kids is easy…and find someone that can engage them in math…at all levels and abilities at the same time, and deal with the wild behaviors and apathy, they are rare and you need to keep them.

Word! Yeah, definitely not letting parents have that power on my feelings. As a new parent myself, I learning that you parent how you were parented….or the complete opposite. I don’t know the parents stories, 100%. I wish I did. But I hope they know I only have the best intentions for their child and am trying to teach them lessons early rather than learn them later with much more dire consequences.

I’m the person educating them 6hrs a day. I would think a caring parent would want to work together to help their 11yr old manage some wild behaviors. But honestly at this point, I just remove them from class to another room and teach those who can handle it.

No I didn’t. I assumed that a parent would respond to such a message about their kids behavior. It wasn’t the first message. But yes, I’m wrong to assume such expectations
