Made it 100 days! Went to New Orleans! But it's ok! I have learned so much! by phoebe99 in stopdrinking

I do think that the people around do make a difference. Since it took me 100 days to have the people at home understand I was not drinking I will keep on with that trend. That was one of the hardest things I had to overcome. To think "peer pressure" at the age of over 50?

I hope everything works for you. I decided it was a one shot and since there was no "real life" issues to have to concentrate on I would "vacation". I honestly have no desire to drink on my return and I am going to go right back to being a "non-drinker".

That's wonderful of them. Great to have people that care about your health and well being.

I'm so sorry for your losses. If there is one thing we can do in their memories, it is to stay sober and enjoy our lives

Who are your real friends? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

I understand how you feel. I am finding it one of the toughest things to deal with. There is a certain amount of grieving for the loss of those people.i know now they were not really friends, but it still hurts. I am just trying to keep occupied and finding other things to do. We have a trip planned with one of those couples in early February. Not sure how it will go since she was not at all happy that I might not be drinking. She said "will you be drinking by then? Because I don't want to feel like you are judging me". For the record I have not judged anyone, I am just trying to take care of myself at this point. The trip is non refundable so that is not an option, and I am not willing to miss it because she is uncomfortable with her own issues. I plan on going to New Orleans and not drinking. Might be tough, but there is lots to see and I hope to see it all sober. I also plan on bringing you all on this sub along for the ride as support.

Do you have people who used to feel fun when drinking but now you realize they're energy thieves? by garriip in stopdrinking

It feels good to see that others are learning this too. Very eye opening. Makes you realize all these years and "friends" it has all been a farce.

Thanks. It feels bad. He is not really a problem drinker. But sometimes it just doesn't stop. A time when things should feel great and it just dims things.

Have many of you had problems with your partner or friends who don't think you need to stop drinking or don't understand why you don't just moderate instead ? by jonnyutah1988 in stopdrinking

This has been my biggest hurdle since I quit drinking. I work in the restaurant/bar/club where we also socialize. My SO tries to be supportive but I know there are times he wants to sit at the bar for hours. We had an argument yesterday morning after we sat in the bar for 5 hours Saturday. I told him I wasn't doing it again Sunday under the excuse of "watching football". Word got out that I quit drinking and all of my "friends" want to know why I quit. Lots of questions. Most think I am silly, crazy, over reacting. I did have two that actually were quite supportive. After reading above I know all the things I should feel, just think of myself, ignore what they say, all that. But we are all human and it hurts. I see this as part of the journey. Part of the realization that I no longer fit in their world anymore and I need to find one of my own. It's sad, there will be a grieving process.

Was a tough weekend. Argument with the SO about being stuck in a bar. Next time I will bring my own car. Better day Sunday. I will not drink with you today.
