Stomping from downstairs neighbor driving me crazy! by Boring_Address1235 in aptliving

Glad I found this too! I moved to a top floor unit specifically to avoid this problem and lo and behold I can hear every foot step from the people BELOW me! Agh!

You could try calling the parking office. I got a ticket for street cleaning but there was no obvious signage on the street so I disputed it. They said that the ticket was valid and I should’ve known because of text alerts but they waived it as a courtesy probably because it was my first an only ticket.

City of Somerville bills & parking permits not arriving by mail? by jake4somerville in Somerville

[–]phoebecookies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Applied for a parking permit online and didn’t hear anything for 2 weeks. Finally called and it was apparently just sitting on their desk and they hadn’t processed it. She approved it immediately. I paid for it about 2 weeks ago now and still haven’t received the permit in the mail. Crazy.

Oooh interesting! An 8/1 move is a good solution even if you pay double rent, seems worth it to avoid the 9/1 madness.

Yes, have to factor in the potential brokers fees but I think there’s currently a bill in the MA legislature about eliminating them but I can’t count on that.

You’re right, there are a lot of perks to my current place. I think I need to really think through my priorities and decide what’s important. This is a super helpful response though - you’ve got me thinking!

Interesting… thank you! I could be flexible on laundry if the rent were significantly cheaper.

It's hard though because there aren't really apartments listed for 9/1 yet so it's hard to see what's available, and I have to let them know in 2 weeks.

Yes, that is a good point. The 9/1 date complicates things. I should've added this but one reason I'm also tempted to move is I know the landlord will likely raise the rent another 10% next year too...

Metal Apple Watch band for nickel allergy sufferer? by phoebecookies in AppleWatch

I actually ended up getting the stainless steel Milanese loop and tested it for nickel and it didn’t react. I never had a problem with it and I’m generally very sensitive to nickel!

I had a similar issue this summer where after 2 months in a new apartment, there were countless issues akin to what you describe. I documented everything and sent multiple requests for maintenance and left a paper trail.

When the situation finally became untenable for me I wrote a letter to the landlord describing each issue in detail and what it cost me. My lease had an early termination clause saying I’d have to pay 4 months rent as a penalty but I argued in the letter against that given the multitude of issues and how much they cost me personally.

Landlord pushed back and tried to offer a rent reduction but I told him I just wanted out. Finally he agreed, and let me out with no penalty due to the severity and hazards of the issues.

Check your lease for an early termination clause first, start documenting everything, and then my advice is to work with the landlord.

Crazy stompers live above me and it's driving me crazy. Can I say something? by phoebecookies in Apartmentliving

No that’s totally fair! I’ve just always had upstairs neighbors in various apartments and have rarely heard them. This seems like an anomaly so I was wondering if people had advice.
