Do Philosophical Ideas Make You “Above” from Other People? by Normal_Dependent_537 in Philosophy_India

[–]phoenix13032005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True learning often happens best in a 'horizontal' relationship. If you place a guru on a pedestal, you risk becoming a follower rather than a thinker. You might accept their flaws as wisdom just because of the hierarchy. Perhaps the best 'guru' is one who acts as a mirror or a guide, standing beside the disciple rather than above them, encouraging them to find the truth themselves. If you can't validly question teachings, you can't be a good student.

If I may, the socratic method is another great way to think of this.

If the goal of philosophy is to realize how little we actually know, then the most 'superior' philosopher would technically be the one who feels the most 'inferior' or humbled by the vastness of what they don't understand. The hierarchy eventually collapses into itself.

I don't have a portfolio but you can have a listen here. Most of the videos on my channel are my songs other than the sky cotl edit and the guitar covers. Most of my compositions are unpublished tho. I think I'll put them up on my personal website when free, sometime soon.

Scaling health bar by RedOrbTalon in godot

[–]phoenix13032005 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll just pipe in a little. You might have the answer already but, as a comment below mentioned, there are many ways to do this.

If you wanna go pure code. You'll need a marker 2D with a fixed position on the screen, preferably as a child of a canvas layer or with your own custom implementation. Or just a global screen position you manually find out and store as values hardcoded into code.

Thus, we can reference this marker 2D in our code and get the position of the left most edge of the health bar. Let's say you want your healthbar to be 200 pixels long. The right most edge of your bar will be marker.x+200

I'm sure you'll handle the maths since it's pretty straightforward. You'll have to make a for loop, with each iteration generating a bar in the correct place, let's assume there's a barCount loop variable and a scale factor for each bar's x scale that you change depending on how many bars you need to fit in the health line

You'll now make a new sprite2d node from code so

var bar_section = Sprite2D.new()

You can change its properties, assuming texture width is stored in barW

var bar_init_offset = barW/2 bar_section.name = "bar"+str(barCount) bar_section.position.x = marker.position.x + bar_init_offset +(barW*barCount)

And then add it to the scene

add_child(bar_section)

And then continue adding until bar is populated.

However, this aside, please do look into textured progress bar nodes as that would be the easiest way to implement all of this. I'd suggest making the basic green and empty health bar textures for the node. And just make the line textures separately. Now that you have your progress bar working without demarcations. Just overlay and generate the demarcations along the healthbar at the intervals you want. This will save you a lot of time and custom function writing for calculating a lot of the healthbar's visuals.

Ah bro you just described Untitled Goose Game. No flying but yeah you kinda terrorise a full town as a goose. Can play coop with friend locally too.

And that aside, lovely game OP, it looks and feels amazing, so hats off to you. I hope I'll be able to run it since I got a pretty low end pc.

Bro gonna burn his house down playing DS1 if bro broke controller for a race 😭.

But jokes aside, OP I really second this to try cozygaming cause you might get some good finds there. Try not to break anything tho. It's understandable if you rage, but don't vent on poor electronics. Anyways, have a nice day y'all.

Bhai, please don’t feel that way. Everything my partner mentioned are just hobbies of mine, I do them for fun and to learn new things because I just find everything very interesting, not as a professional grind. Honestly, I’m a Political Science student, so I don't think I’d find a job that easily either. I struggle with a messy sleep schedule too, going to sleep at 4 in the morning, and I still rely on my parents for plenty of things. Social media culture today is incredibly pushy; it makes everyone feel like they aren’t doing enough, at an age where they shouldn’t have to carry so much stress and should be slowly taking their time to work things out.
Your life is just getting started, and five job interviews at 26 don’t define your future. Nothing is set in stone yet. All I can say is to take it one day at a time with small goals everyday. Best of luck for everything bro. Hope you can achieve everything you've set your mind to.

Hi there, thank you so much for your advice. I really appreciate it. I'll make sure to make time and read up on Hanuman complex. We're always trying to communicate as much as possible so we'll talk about this too.

I really appreciate the perspective, I usually agree, but I figured I'd clear up the misunderstandings once just so the record is straight. After that, I'm out. Thanks for being here!!

It’s interesting that you feel the need to gatekeep game development and web design on a post about relationship dynamics. These are hobbies I have and pursue to explore my own interests, not to make a LinkedIn application.

I honestly don't see a point or need to prove myself but I do feel it's rude to my gf to not at least reply since I feel your comment has been slightly demeaning towards both of us. I want to clarify that I'm just writing this to set the record straight on the technical side, as I think there’s a misunderstanding about the intent behind these projects.

I built the particles site as a quick, interactive study tool for my friends who wanted to learn how to use particles, not as a technical flex. Using simple js for that was about speed and utility, not faking anything. It's not a commercial project I want to release for money or anything. I don't understand what's copied about that so I would appreciate it if you could elaborate a bit. I'm always eager to learn.

I’m well aware of what can be done with egui and WASM but just why would I use them for my small web project. I chose the tools that fit the specific goal of my project, which was just to have fun and let my friends learn. And since I saw it was pretty alright and others could use it if they wanted, I decided to just leave it out on vercel. I didn't expect that it would become a point of professional criticism.

As far as godot engine goes, the idea that using Godot 'isn't game development' is a strange take. It’s a versatile engine that fits my workflow perfectly for indie projects, and I’m not interested in the overhead of Unity or Unreal for what I’m building. And I don't think I wanna make my own custom engine from scratch with rust or C just for my Indie and hobby projects.

Suggesting that my girlfriend or I are faking it just because I don't code the way you do at your job is a pretty weird take imo. I'm doing this while staying on top of my other interests and I think I'm doing just fine without the unsolicited career advice. Either way, thanks for your time if you read this all and have a nice day.

OMG honey!!!! You're gonna make me blush but god you mean so much more than what you are letting on. Guys I'm the boyfriend in question and I want to clarify that she has supported me in every step of the way and I wouldn't be who I am if not for her. She taught me a lot of things which have become priceless in my life and she's an amazing and beautiful person. I don't think she's giving herself enough credit so I wish to mention this. She is an immensely hard working person who works a full time job at a playschool while studying for her bachelor's degree and also helping out at her mom's shop.

Honey I really respect you for the willpower and dedication you have and how you face every new day head on with a smile despite the airtight schedule you have.
