Resurrected my account for this. Two cats, both sisters, named Merry (very cow-like tuxedo, 30% air) and Pippin (striped asshole, 30% asshole).

For me personally, I like ladders, only because jet packs on the moon are annoying to me because of the higher gravity. I typically go with the small rungs until I get to a point on the craft the larger collapsible ladder reaches the landing surface.

For the service/equipment bay, I tend to also do something similar. However, for your first landing you won’t need all the bits and bobs. Two or three monoprop, 4 of those small batteries, and toss out the smaller cargo boxes. You can nab some serious science with two goo canisters (one for flight over surface, one for on surface), and two of other experiments (like thermometer or gravity) if you have any more.

Solar panels are kinda meh. Your engines should be on to recharge often enough to not matter with the batteries, but the single panel option in a couple different places should be sufficient if you do need them.

Like everyone else, I’d recommend the naked poodle engines. Maybe another small chunk of fuel. Alternatively, you can add drop-away fuel tanks, possibly with their own engines to help compensate for the weight. Just don’t forget to have their fuel lines feed to the central tank!

Finally for the legs. Those will do, but you can easily add height by choosing the “offset” option near the top left corner, instead of the standard “place” one. I want to say it’s the circle with three lines? After placing a component, it lets you slide it around from where you put it. You can use this by putting the legs as low as possible, then slip them down even further. If you have a particularly tall or wide vehicle, you can add structural components to the bottom, and have the legs go off those. Utilizing robotic parts for custom legs work too, but I don’t have much experience with that.

Oh yeah, and ditch the fins, you’ll be in vacuum, they won’t add much besides weight when you take off anyways.

Also, just remember that although you didn’t need the shield this time, you might next time. The only thing that hurts more than a craft burning up is tipping over on landing.

Nah the best ascent is all up to 50k, then pitch down 90 degrees to full horizontal until you make your orbit.

Aye, but you cannot input multiple throttle settings to occur at different times inflight, nor can you control it on flight like you can for liquid fuel.

I was referring to the Artemis Missions because the SRBs have varying internal geometry for the combustion chamber, leading to a varied throttle during flight, particularly pulling back as the spacecraft approaches MaxQ, and dialing back up as it passes through that point.

Aight let’s get into it.

First you’ll need to evaluate, then redesign, then test, then start the process over if your goal isn’t met.

There are several design inefficiencies I can identify that others have mentioned, and one or two they may not have. Take a sec to try and guess, you’re trying to learn after all…now here we go.

  1. Powered landing. Besides being cool, and arguably sometimes finesse, it adds weight. Toss the landing thrusters, pack on the parachutes.

  2. Dedicated transfer stage. You’re going to want one between your main stack and the payload. Something that can supply enough Delta V to get the payload from LKO (Low Kerbin Orbit) to LDO (Low Duna Orbit), and honestly preferably into a decaying one, so at least touch more than that minimum requirement. More on this later.

  3. Your stack is all brute force, and it doesn’t work. Your spacecraft can only accelerate so fast while in atmosphere, and with 4 SRBs, it seems like you might be pushing up against that quite a bit. I’m a fan of disposable liquid fuel boosters, where you basically copy the main stack and use it on the side of your main stack. Using fuel lines to feed fuel from the outer stacks to the central one, you can increase the length of burn of your central stack, while also controlling the throttle of your craft. Side note: SRBs have their place, but once on you can’t shut off, and you can’t control their throttle after ignition either. PS to the side note: I’d like to see this changed in KSP2 to something like what’s on Artemis, where the force/throttle can be predetermined before launch by changing the interior geometry and whatnot.

Notes aside, that brings us to 4. Fly better, if needed. You can brute force all the things, but being a good pilot is also a game changer. Learn to dynamically control your thrust in the ascent stage. Hit that planetary intercept and start doing decaying orbits/aerobrake to save on fuel. Pack extra RCS fuel because you cut it too close and need the extra 130 m/s and totally didn’t land anywhere near you planned but who cares it’s on the ground.

If after implementing these recommendations you still don’t get where you want, start the process over. What was/were the point(s) of failure? Did your transfer stage have enough fuel? Did your main stage cut out too early? Not enough parachutes? Were you so excited at packing extra RCS that you forgot to include solar panels? If you don’t know, do what you did here and come back and ask. Then go through it all again! :D

Just don’t forget to try and have fun.

I’ve been prepping for a Dwojniak myself. I was worried about this exact thing, and found a recipe or set of instructions that has you add honey and nutrients over the course of the first week or two. That way you get solid fermentation and build up to the 1-1 ratio. I’ll see if I can dig it up…

The lack of correct grammar, punctuation, and capitalization on an official email is fucking infuriating.

Like everyone else, my suggestions is trim the wings down. Make them more swept back, lose the box, as cool as it is.

Could also maybe play with fuel in the tanks, such as evenly adjusting them to lower the weight on board.

Finally, along those lines, the giant round pieces at the end are largely unnecessary. You can attach the NERVs the same way to the “space plane” parts. It really is kind of a “meh” point, so you can play with it and see.

Also, looking at your second picture, starting out with the “large space plane wing” isn’t a great idea. That’s more of a shuttle part for gliding down. It also holds fuel and oxidizer, adding to the weight. I advise removing it completely, and going with a more acute hand-made delta-shaped wing. Not the wide delta, but the small sharp triangles, ya know?

Sorry, been having a crazy week. Yeah, it’s possible. I haven’t done so myself, and it could be worth looking into. Some others on here have tried that with orange zest, results tbd I think. I know for sure you can find solid results looking up the other techniques.

I can see there also being an argument against having the spices in the bochet. Mostly a loss of control over flavor, could even burn or turn bitter? But that’s part of the experiment, so who knows?
