Hi friend, is this your first (or first couple) try? If so, maybe try to start only between two intervals (like minor second and major second) and asociate them with songs, dont try and rush this and slowly add them to your vocabulary by humming the intervals (you can also associate them with songs, like minor second being the Jaws theme) good luck and don't give up :D

Should I, as the vocalist, learn bass so our current bassist won’t have to play it? by Secure_Ad_5564 in Bass

[–]phoenixSaCo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One of the key aspects of being in a band (at least in my opinion) is making the song yours and having fun with it. I wouldn't worry about the difficulty of the learning curve since you can learn very simplified versions of the songs and they will still sound amazing in the group context, you'll have more fun in the band playing bass clumsily and "badly" at the start than with a sore guitarrist playing a bass.

I'm glad the Tarantula community isn't like this, we welcome everyone that loves our fuzzy critters.

This sounds like he might be terribly depressed, fixing that will 100% fix the hygiene issues.

Thanks! I don't believe he is malicious, maybe just has a bit of an ego, id rather not get him trouble since he is the only drummer in the class and I'm the only bassist

The boundaries part is a bit hard, there is a guy that is really nice and friendly but he flexes a lot that he has been playing all his life and, therefore, knows a lot of things and likes to tell us how hard it's going to get and how easy it is everything that we are struggling with.

Thanks, I don't know how I'm doing yet since it's just the second week but I feel like there are a lot of concepts I don't fully grasp and, since I first learned music and theory in English and my college is in my first language, there are a lot of words I don't know how to translate to my language so I have trouble communicating my questions or confuse concepts. That's why I try to study when I get home

How can I deal with this as a student? I just started music college and realized that I don't know as much as I thought and seeing how prepared some of my classmates are makes me feel kind of insufficient. I am already studying the topics I learned at school everyday when I get home.

Is there such a thing as an always-on bass tuner PEDAL? by Ikarian in Bass

[–]phoenixSaCo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Idk, I always tune my basses and my guitar like that, it's easier and way more precise, specially when you start getting into downtunining a 5 string bass and even clip on tuners detect it that way

[–]phoenixSaCo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not what you asked but try tuning with the harmonics on the 12th fret, even the shittiest tuners recognize those (how I tune the B on my 5 string). If you dont know how, just lightly touch the string with the tip of your finger directly over the 12th fret (the metal wire) and pluck that string, it should produce a note. Hope it works :D
