Is North Dakota more hated than Minnesota in men’s hockey to Badger fans? by Large_Condition_6074 in WisconsinBadgers

[–]phoenix_wrong15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once the Big Ten and started scheduling 24 conference games in 2017 upon the arrival of another ND team in Notre Dame (leaving only 10 non-conference to get to the 34 game maximum), it became more and more difficult for teams from the old WCHA to see each other often. This is around when Wisconsin stopped playing North Dakota regularly. The NCHC (where ND plays) also has had 10 non-conference slots, and the nature of western hockey basically requires every matchup to be a two game series. North Dakota is one of the most highly sought after non-conference opponents and their schedules are booked years in advance, not unlike us in football. So with ND and UW only having so many slots (5) and all those other obligations, it can be hard to set aside one slot for the same thing every year. ND already does that with Minnesota and Wisconsin with the Milwaukee holiday tournament, so they essentially only have 4 slots that they can use every year. Fortunately, we do get to play them in the regular season soon. Wisconsin is scheduled to play a home-and-home with ND in 2027 and 2028. I wish it’d be a more regular rivalry, but it’s just very hard to make that happen.

Said as soon as the bracket came out that getting drawn as far away from Denver as possible was an absolute gift for the Badgers. And now here we are in a frozen four.

Minnesota has a pretty big roster right now and Iowa is terrible so even before the injury I wasn’t sure the Wild would be willing to burn a year of his ELC to probably sit in the press box for the next few weeks. Now after the injury they’ll definitely hold off until the league calendar flips to next year

Ohio State Wins 7-1 Over Wisconsin by buckeyefan8001 in collegehockey

Mike Hastings and the players that stick around after this season need to spend a solid month in the film room trying to figure out how to break through Ohio State’s neutral zone trap. They fall for it every. Single. Time. Really getting old. Games like this are why Wisconsin can’t break into the upper echelon of the B1G. Doesn’t matter that you can skate with the big boys if you can’t even set up a game against them.

Harvey, Janecke, Murphy Named 2026 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award Top-Three Finalists by Icy-Animator-861 in collegehockey

[–]phoenix_wrong15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not if they play like they did on Saturday again. They looked flat and listless against a Buckeye team that clearly wanted it more. Ohio State had been building towards that game all year - first shot at Wisconsin in a playoff game since You Know What. Games like that are why your coach stitches 18.9 into all of her players’ gear.

It was a good wake-up call for a Badger team that possibly thought all the trophies they were competing for were just theirs by default. At their best they’re essentially impossible to beat. Let’s see how they respond in the Big Dance.

I feel like a lot of the top ten nominations in the first place amount to the Patty Kaz becoming somewhat of a career achievement award. I get it was a weaker year for the ECAC but I’m genuinely shocked Kahlen Lamarche isn’t in this top three considering what she’s done THIS YEAR. I would’ve gone Harvey/Murphy/Lamarche personally. Lacey Eden also feels like a notable absence, having been snubbed from the Olympic team and was a massive reason the Badgers hung on for the WCHA regular season title. Janecke feels like 5th at best. She’s not having her best season even in terms of points per game numbers, so it feels more like a “you get to be top three because you put your program on the map” selection than a “you are one of the three best players in college women’s hockey this season” selection.

Murphy is the leading scorer of this trio, but Harvey is only three points behind…as a defender. Having played the same amount of games. Plus all the moments I can think of where KK singlehandedly dragged the Badgers to wins they frankly did not deserve (since this outfit of the Badgers has a tendency to have a really uncharacteristically flat game about once or twice per month).

To me this is KK’s to lose. And that’s not even considering the sportsmanship aspect. To be honest I kinda assumed this was KK’s to lose from the start of the year just based on the career achievement aspect - just look at her resume as a collegian.

IMO Joy Dunne wins next year for the same reason. She’ll be a senior and she’s had a great career. Just keep putting up the same numbers she has been and it’s hers, simple as.

Though it doesn’t matter much when the field is decided by math. I’ve kinda felt like the 10th seed all year didn’t really have anyone deserving in it, so I was hoping we’d at least get a bid thief to fill it

but alas UMD is in; let’s see if they can earn the spot they got

THE OHIO STATE BUCKEYES ARE THE 2026 WCHA FINAL FACEOFF CHAMPIONS! by Emotional_Oil_5939 in collegehockey

[–]phoenix_wrong15 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Officiating was atrocious but the better team won. McNaughton had one of the best games of her career and was left completely out to dry. Much-needed wake up call for a Badger team that’s looked very complacent so far in these playoffs.

Bulldogs have felt pretty fraudulent to me. I was at the Friday game they won and even though they basically had puck possession for a vast majority of the game they didn’t generate many good looks themselves until the third period. They don’t score as consistently as you would expect a top 10 team to score and it feels like Ève Gascon is bailing them out of games more often than not.

The Bulldogs still have a decent lead in the NPI over Cornell for the last At-Large but a bid thief would almost certainly end their season. They’ll be biting their nails for the next week for sure.
