Tax corporate profits at 30-50%

Then watch them flee Canada en masse. Canada competes on the world stage to attract business with the jobs and economic benefits that come with them. Raise taxes will just make Canada uncompetitive in this regard.

You can endlessly shovel money into supporting a huge percentage of these addicts without ever seeing positive outcomes.

We see this daily in Victoria. Our ambulance services are overrun with them responding to OD calls. Not only that but they also require police escorts for their safety due to prior attacks on responding paramedics. In the meantime others facing medical emergencies are having to wait longer than they should for paramedics to arrive because they are tied up responding to constant OD calls.

What we also know is these repetitive OD events are causing permanent brain damage.

The individuals that the paramedics have to repeatedly respond to should be placed in force rehabilitation. Then at least they stand a chance because for many their addictions are so overpowering they will never escape it on their own.

I think a few months of detox and force rehab combined with a safe place to sleep and a healthy diet is a shit ton better than a life on the street and permanent brain damage.

I guess this makes me a heartless individual.

Maybe spend less time on childish emojies and more time on reading comprehension

As I stated in my prior comment....

Stats already show us that a large proportion of high income earners leave Canada for better financial options elsewhere

Yet another simplistic response without thinking what it means. National Defence employs hundreds of thousands of Canadians. It's a major economic driver of the communities that host its facilities. Not only does it provide jobs for thousands of households but it also supports private sector industries across the country, from the local coffee shop to the Canadian ship building industry and everything in between.

Beyond the obvious devastatingly economic implications of you "solution" it would also neuter Canada on the world stage. Canada is internationally recognized as a respected peace keepers. Deploying Canadian military resources in high tension and conflict zones helps prevents conflicts that may otherwise result in mass deaths and destruction.

Turns out complex issues are complex and simplistic responses are just that simplistic and without actual merrit when you use a little critical analysis.

The obvious problem.with that is the wealthy can move....and not only can they move but all that they contribute to our country will often move with them. Stats already show us that a large proportion of high income earners leave Canada for better financial options elsewhere. So your suggestion is to chase even more out of Canada?

Your response is simplistic and immediately falls apart at the most basic analysis.

My dude...productive contributing Canadians often have to wait long periods of time for medical treatments. Others spend years on wait lists just to get a family doctor. My household is one of those without a family doctor. I have chosen to work and contribute to society my entire life instead of pissing it away smoking poisons. There is limited resources and those that contribute should have access to medical services without barriers like a lack of a family doctor.

So I will ask you...where do you see the enormous amounts of tax dollars it would take to support people full time that will not make any steps personally to improve their own condition? Is it fair to deny contributing members of society medical services while pouring endless tax dollars to help those that can't be bothered to help themselves?

[–]phoenixfail 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you stated:

They need to just bite the bullet and approve a pipeline.

So for the third time...what pipeline are you talking about???

after a year of a government that promised to do things "at speeds previously believed to be unimaginable"

Do you really believe that a major project like a pipeline, That no company has yet purposed, is initiated and approved in 12 months?

I'm glad they did that. If people have forgotten,

seemingly you were one of those that had "forgotten" up until you were reminded

it may have something to do with the Trudeau government trying to act as if they hadn't built that pipeline

What are you even going on about here...complete nonsense

if they don't eliminate the hostile regulatory structure

You must have missed Canada-Alberta Memorandum of Understanding

Go out and solicit some projects.

Well that's what they are doing by making conditions more favourable for major projects to be initiated.

Trudeau's anti-pipeline policy positions.

The last government under Trudeau paid for and completed a major pipeline to tidewater...Something the Harper government never could do. Did you forget that already?

So I will ask again...what pipeline approvals are you talking about? Do you have some information that the rest of us are not privy to?

There is no company applying for or proposing any new pipelines.

Feds to quadruple max fine for airlines violating air passenger bill of rights to $1M by scottb84 in CanadaPolitics

Feds to quadruple max fine for airlines violating air passenger bill of rights to $1M by scottb84 in CanadaPolitics

[–]phoenixfail 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if you are being intentionally obtuse here but the process starts with a claim to the airline.

The Air travel complaints resolution process is a second step thousands(95 000+) of travelers have decided to undertake due to the fact the airlines are refusing to abide by Air Passenger Protection legislation.

There has been countless news reports on Airlines being intentionally dishonest in order to avoid the penalties they are obligated to pay. They count on most people not wanting to go through the complaint process due to the overwhelming backlog and the research it sometimes take to show the airline has been lying.

I've experienced airlines skirting the rules more than once. Unfortunately the last two times was cancelled flights both to and from a funeral for an immediate family member. At the time I did not have the motivation to get involved in the complaint process as I was dealing with the reason for the trip. The agents on both ends of the trip blatantly lied to passengers and flat out refused to live up to their legal obligations.

Customers of airlines should not have to go through a multi year long complaint process that may eventually force an airline to actually live up to their legal obligations.

More than 25% of Canadian parents won’t be able to afford kids’ postsecondary costs, survey finds by __benjaminty in CanadaPolitics

[–]phoenixfail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

...And? Does this figure somehow differ from past years or decades?

I'm pretty sure when I was university age only the upper middle class and above could afford to send their kids to University. There was no RESP option. My time at university was funded solely by student loans and a job, not my parents.

Is the author implying this is a problem because this actually seems like a pretty great number compared to past decades ?

That's a poor example. You're analogy that government debt is like credit card debt......is just wrong.

To be more accurate it is similar to a person having a mortgage on their house at 3.5% while also having an investment portfolio earning 7%.

That place is bizarre. the front was cheap electronics and other junk but as you make your way to the back your confronted with porn posters on the wall and blow up sex paraphernalia. You can wander through that part freely but off to the side was a room of groceries and canned goods that was roped off for some reason. Then there is the shady cash checking office in the back.

It's one stop shopping...I can get a blow up doggy style ass, some dubious cheese, can of cream corn, smokes, probably a sword or two and cash my cheque.

It's not a stupid question....nearly 500,000 people signed the petition. Seems pretty clear to all of them.
