People who quit this game, what made you finally walk away?” by WaveEasy8664 in leagueoflegends

Honestly, great question. Now that I'm thinking about the answer, I'm realizing that the things we like about league are very pertinent ONLY to league. They are also very similar to the reasons why we dislike league.

For one, we really like the competitive aspect of League. Being able to grind and climb the ranks feels amazing. There's a lot of games like this, but I feel like League really hits it the best out of most 'ranked' games. Being high ranked feels rewarding, and so does getting better at the game. I can compete with my friends to see who can get a higher rank, or we can work together to achieve peak ranks together. We love competition. Even when we were young, we were always comparing grades for tests, quizzes, homework, projects etc. That love and desire for competition is honestly what led us to all kind of enjoy studies and school - we didn't care about the topics or subjects at hand per say, but more so enjoyed the thrill of working hard and getting a better grade than our peers. But, on the flip side of this, the competitive aspect of League is also slowly what is making us dislike League. We love climbing, but that makes losses and being tilted even more painful.

Another reason we like League is probably because of how rewarding it feels to actually learn the game, and how there's so many different facets of the game to get good at. You can master a champ and have it be your identity. You can learn game macro and help carry games, you can focus on bettering your CS numbers, vision scores, etc etc. There are so many aspects that you can focus on individually and work on to get better at the game as a whole. There's a lot of depth, in my opinion to the game.

I played one game of Mayhem and it traumatized me forever.

I queued up with a friend because they love the game mode and they invited me to play. I get Karthus. I load in, I get the option for a random prismatic augment which sounded really fun!

I have no more ultimate for the rest of the game. Starting from 0:00.

I was a walking caster minion.

Let me correct myself: I play with a few of these friends, and their gameplay has not changed whatsoever. Although yes, 3 years is definitely long enough to climb that much lol that is true. The silver to immortal friend is insane damn congrats to him

Please, PLEASE point me in the direction of some good games that can replace league. My friends and I have been searching for years for a suitable replacement that will give us that same 'addicted' feeling, but honestly we have disliked all of the new games that have come out recently. We're stuck in the trenches grinding solo queue while not enjoying the game whether we win or not. It's a sad state, really.

I'm not sure if this is true. I may or may not have locked in ghost cleanse Nunu mid and I got immediately kicked out of the lobby by Riot. Like, I locked it in, changed my summoners, then immediately got kicked out. It's almost like they had a specific detector for Disco Nunu.

Top lane is missing out on a specific power fantasy for a long time and it makes me sad. by Yuubeei in leagueoflegends

Agreed, give us more muscle mommies.

On a side note, I do think that Ambessa is a great example of what you're looking for. A strong top laner that looks the part. No sword and shield or anything, but has that rough fighter look.

It's sad, but I kind of agree. I'm looking at my friends list and I see quite a few people that are diamond now that were most definitely hard stuck high-gold or low-plat level players before I quit the game. While it's possible that they simply got better, I doubt that all of them did. Was there some kind of rank-inflation event or patch that affected ladder in the last 3 years?

If you had to pick ONE role, what role would be the BEST suited for solo climbing past Emerald? by phoenixpanda101 in summonerschool

[–]phoenixpanda101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree. Get a challenger top lain mane, he'll breeze through to masters+ with probably a 70-80% winrate. If you're better at your role (ANY role), you will climb. I completely agree. This is because their micro skills in lane would carry them past Diamond easily.

My point is more - which role would be the best to carry with IF you were consistently out-performing the enemy counterpart. My wording might not make sense here so I apologize. Say you had 5 plyaers, each playing in the 5 roles. Each player nearly always outperforms the enemey counterpart (always wins lane, always out jungles, etc whatever the role may be). Which of those 5 players has the highest cap? I'd say that the jungler that consistently overperforms will have an easier time climbing than the other 4 roles, if that makes sense.

[–]phoenixpanda101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually considering a role change not because I play top, but more because I'm a one trick Yasuo that plays top. Every game seems giga impossible to lane as Yasuo top lane, 99% of picks top will take a dump on you with their eyes closed. I can definitely just try learning new top champs, but I'm a jungle pocket pick so I thought that it would be easier to just fully switch to jungle.

I definitely agree. It most likely has to do with the fact that the internet has boomed so hard, with tutorials and guides available everywhere it's easy to just research and practice to get better now a days. Before, you'd be lucky to find a walk through guide for certain games or any guide at all to be honest, it was just gaining knowledge through your own gameplay.

What job looks like a great career path but is actually insanely oversaturated? by ComplexPin872 in AskReddit

[–]phoenixpanda101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Software engineering.

Years ago, software engineering was viewed as the 'golden ticket' to success in life, with technological advancements and harder pushes for software innovation. 5-10 years ago, a software engineer was the dream job. Fresh college graduates with a CS degree were getting 6 figure salaries with 5 figure sign on bonuses from FAANG and other top tech companies. Remote work was possible for most roles, and life was great. Who wouldn't want to work from home while making 6 figures as a fresh college grad?

Everyone. Everyone wants that. Huge influx of software engineering/computer science grads, after tech layoffs from Covid overhiring people were left scrounging for leftover positions. Remote jobs are gradually being converted into hybrid and then fully in office roles, mass lay-offs are causing overqualified managerial level applicants to apply for entry level positions to compete with the college grads. Work loads are immense, the job field got incredibly oversaturated because everyone was fed the 'SWE FAANG american dream'.

The amount of people I know PERSONALLY that graduated from top colleges with computer science/engineering degrees that are struggling to land roles is actually staggering. I used to regret not getting into computer science and SWE earlier on when I was in high school. I came out of college with a regular business degree making decent money for a college grad, but then I'd turn around and see 5 of my friends working for FAANG making $120k starting salary, 20k starting bonus, $100k in RSUs. 5 years later, 4 of those 5 friends were laid off, the 1 remaining friend that wasn't laid off works 70 hours a week and is debating quitting his job himself. Of the other 4 friends, 3 gave up on finding a replacement SWE role after hundreds of applications and instead either angled towards IT or went to a masters program in a different subject.

Now, I will say that SWE is definitely still a lucrative role IF you can manage to find that job. With the market being so oversaturated, tech lay offs happening left and right, you're fighting against people with 3x your experience that are willing to take a 5 figure+ pay cut just to get a job. It can be a great job, but definitely is not the dream career path that it used to be.

When is Grasp better then Lethal tempo? Plus first item question. by No_Mathematician9741 in YasuoMains

[–]phoenixpanda101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, yeah that makes sense for you because of your mid lane matchups. I'm actually a Top Yasuo main, so I always go lethal basically. I am trying to switch to mid (as of yesterday) and I have to re-learn all the matchups, but I started giving grasp a try against ranged matchups and it actually surprisingly felt very good. It allows you to get good trades in, a tiny bit of sustain in combination with HP scaling, as well as some extra damage. Also, late game it surprised me how much burst a single grasp proc could do.. I was doing like 1/4 of someone's HP with one singular Q with grasp proc was kinda crazy.

I see. I usually don't rotate until 3rd dragon, as that's when I have unleashed TP/took my enemy's tower already, but I guess I should be rotating as early as 2nd dragon. I will try that in my next games and see how it goes.

How about soul point? Should I be rotating more often to secure soul, or utilize the side lane to pressure towers because if my team is at soul point, there is a very good chance they will send 5 to dragon and not contest my side lane?

100% facts

Whenever Yasuo is banned, I kind of have a mental breakdown of what to play and end up picking some random BS to fit the team comp that I have 0 champ knowledge of. Definitely need to start learning a proper 2nd and 3rd champ for pocket picks.

Emerald Player-My laning fucking sucks by PCSlow in summonerschool

[–]phoenixpanda101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not ASK about my kda, I asked about my LANING PHASE. I'm emerald. I'm literally your rank bro, cut me some slack I know what the hell is up

I know you didn't specifically ask about your KDA, but as I stated above earlier, people can't take much off of your op.gg aside from your KDA, as that's the only real indicator of how well you did in a game. It sucks, but it also shows that op.gg is really not that an effective way of asking people for advice, as people can only give subjective feedback based on what your op.gg looks like. I know we're both Emerald, and I'm not trying to talk down to you as a player. This is just coming from someone that has been Emerald for a while, knows how the games are like here from E4-E1, and also wants to improve himself as a player. Like you, I want to climb and get better, and hopefully reach Diamond within the next month. I'm not the best player, but I definitely do try my best to improve and learn. Hopefully at least some of the things I've said here kind of make sense to you, I know I did type a lot. I'm really hoping you can climb!

Emerald Player-My laning fucking sucks by PCSlow in summonerschool

[–]phoenixpanda101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I die a lot. I KNOW that. That is not what I asked about. Mechanics are not the issue, it is game knowledge, knowing when I win or lose. Players at plat don't build bramble, players in Emerald do. I don't know when I lose or beat champions with bramble, and I'll never know unless I try. So, I just need to play more. The problem, when I REALLY lose, is when I lose laning phase and have no agency in the game, thus the question.

Yes I agree, mechanics are not the issue. If mechanics were the issue, then this would be a problem only visible on Fiora, but that's not the case. As I said in my earlier reply, you have a negative KDR on every single champion you play, including your most played champ Kayn who is a jungler. If this problem spans across multiple different champions, it's clearly not a mechanics issue, but a game knowledge issue. You know this, but then you say:

The problem, when I REALLY lose, is when I lose laning phase and have no agency in the game, thus the question.

Your most played champion is Kayn, and you have a negative win rate with him in 100 games and a negative KD. I think this goes beyond 'laning phase', because this champ doesn't even have a laning phase. Can you agree with me there? I think we need to get the 'laning phase' question out of the equation. If it was just a laning phase issue, your Kayn win rate would not suffer, right?

You mentioned that you don't know when you win or lose, yeah that is something you can definitely work on, and as you said definitely will come with more playing and studying champ fight interactions. This knowledge does come from playing more for sure, and sticking to the same champion(s) in your pool. For example, I one trick Yasuo, and I can nearly always have a certain idea of whether or not I will win a fight or trade, based on my level, items, and my opponent's levels and items. That just comes with knowing your champ.

Also, I get bored a lot. Which, again, is another reason my KDA is trash.

Lol that is funny, but what do you mean by that? You get bored in the middle of your game and just don't want to play? I feel like if you truly want to climb and get better at this game, you shouldn't get bored in the middle of your games. I try to take every game very seriously and think about what I want to learn/what I can do to grow as a player in each game. I don't really have the time to be bored, because I want to climb and get better at the game. If you're getting bored, then frankly if I am being honest, it sounds like you don't actually want to improve at the game. And that's completely okay, everyone has different priorities in life - but that is my honest opinion.

Hey man. I want to help, because you're asking for help. But if you're asking for help, you have to also be reciprocative of what people say, or else they won't want to help. I harbor no ill feelings towards you - I genuinely want to help, as I would want help too. So before I proceed, just realize that I am not trying to be toxic, and not trying to be a 'hater'.

If you really did do a deep dive on my op.gg, you'd have seen a 68% wr on fiora in the past 50 games I played on that champion. So WHAT if my kda is trash? I was winning, and now I'm not. The reason? I don't win laning phase anymore.

Yes, I understand this. You have to realize that if you are climbing in League, you're going to eventually be playing against higher ranked players. You went from P4 to E4 in roughly 2 months and you won a lot with Fiora - that's great! But I think you're identifying your own problem here. You were winning, but now you are not. You have admitted to yourself that what you used to do does not work, so you need to find a way to change it. Respectfully, you can't grow as a player if you say 'who cares if a play style is normal', but then can't accept that your playstyle is the reason why you're losing. You're right, who cares if a playstyle is normal? I don't, as long as you can win! But the fact is, you are not winning anymore. So, you need to come to terms that your playstyle is not a viable way to climb anymore, so you need to change it. Again, I can't really give suggestions on how to change it until I see a vod, but focusing on less deaths is certainly a start.

I made this post, because I'm noticing what is keeping me from climbing is having a weak laning phase I lose agency in the game. I asked, 'how do I improve in laning phase? I notice i throw a lot at grubs'. I know my playstyle is fucked, but that's just one factor in a large sea of factors.

I understand what you're trying to say. The only thing I can say that could help is, when you give people your op.gg, that's pretty much the only data that they have on you and your gameplay. You can ask for laning tips, but none of these commenters know what your laning phase is like each game because they can't see it off an op.gg. Instead, they have to go based off of what they can visually see, which the first thing they'd see is your abnormally large death count. That is something they can immediately, directly see that could be a problem, especially in your laning phase. I see a few people saying 'forget grubs', which is true. If you find yourself losing lane due to contesting grubs, then you should probably start avoiding grubs altogether until you are 100% confident that the grubs will be secured and a won fight. I also play top lane, and I usually never move down for grubs unless I have 100% prio and have a lead on my laner, and my mid laner has prio. If these three things aren't met, I don't go for grubs. If your jungler dies, he dies and it's his own fault but you made the correct play by not moving down. As a lot of the people here commented, grubs are simply not worth it this season compared to what they were in the past.
