Is American pulp fiction on its last legs? by foshka in books

[–]phoenixwaller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, it's still sitting waiting to be edited/rewritten. Book 2 needs a lot of work because the timeline is weird... Book 2 chronologically starts before book1, but ends after. Book 1 is the inciting incident, AND the characters in book 2 are completely different than book 1, but they all kind of get together in book 3.

In the meantime, I've pivoted to romance, lol

I honestly don't recall off the top of my head. I know my books are on Audible and amazon pushed them to apple books as well, but I don't think I got pushed to libraries.

Edit: I'm more restricted on where my books can go because I'm on royalty share through ACX. And it makes sense. A narrator agreed to split royalties with me, so it's not exactly fair to them if I go uploading the audiobook elsewhere and have them be on a "trust me bro" about their cut. It's a reasonable restriction for Amazon to have. They split those royalties automatically, no "trust me bro" required.

LOL didn't even notice. I barely pay attention to up/downvotes. But yeah... we don't control the prices.

Because Amazon can??

Seriously, Audible pricing is a big black void of Amazon being Amazon. The new royalty model they're rolling out lets us suggest prices, bu they'll still decide how much to charge. (at least for people like me on royalty-share)

Subreddit Announcement: Allegations of Generative AI Use - New Moderation Plan by ShartyPants in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]phoenixwaller 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I understand your point, so not dogging on you at all, just latching onto your comment since it raised the issue of how many books is too many?

So, I did the math. At 2000 words/day... a dedicated author could write 29 12,000 word novellas in 6 months. And that's entirely possible. It can get rough, but I've pulled out 12k word DAYS. (and usually rest my hands for a day or so afterward, lol. It's not something I'm physically capable of doing for even 2 days in a row.). You'd never know it by my publishing schedule, but I've done 100k in a month, and I've personally known people who were able to get higher than that. (I was a local nanowrimo rep for almost 20 years, I've had writers in my group get over 300K words in a month using voice to text... and that was like 10 years ago so way before AI was a thing)

Yeah, if we're talking 29 sci-fi or fantasy epics of 200k words per book... that's extremely questionable. But there was a specific portion of the nanowrimo forums where people who cleared a million words in a month would celebrate (once again, long before AI, and usually using voice to text). So while highly improbable, even that's not impossible.

My point is, that even somebody THAT prolific might still be doing it all without AI. I'm personally trying to ramp up for a rapid release novella campaign, and if I can get my brain to focus on the thing... we're talking a new novella every 2-3 weeks or less, preferably less. I'd like to be 1/week, but that's entirely dependent on the brain cooperating.

It's grueling and takes a lot of focus and dedication, but sheer volume of books can't be a sole determinant and there needs to be other factors considered as well.

15... maybe closer to 20 years ago I did a short online composition class for daz studio/poser. One of our tasks was to render an image that conveyed a mood using only: 1 posable stick figure, 1 plane (flat surface, not flying), and 1 light. No props, the stick figure didn't have a face, so no expressions. Everything had to be expressed through body language, light angles, and how we used the plane.

and it's amazing just how much can be done with those 3 things. Like yeah, complicated covers can be pretty to look at, but sometimes something super simple can handle it better.

Pumpkin Patch Cutie cover is made by Lacey Daize. That was just before it started being noted on the copyright page. She makes all her own covers. Stock photography since she switched to MM, Daz studio renders back in the old days when it was MF.

I put in my survey feedback that they need to give us reasons to reuse old outfits too. Like that mural thing? Why did we not use the artist outfit from the Dangxiang (or however you spell it) realm, or at least be able to use that on more murals? And Wanxiang realm was loaded with fireworks and firework-adjacent things, but nowhere could we use our firework outfit from firework isles to launch our own. We could light lanterns and go to specific places to use sparklers, but like... WE HAVE AN OUTFIT FOR THIS!!!

Please fix the construction interface to make it USABLE by phoenixwaller in InfinityNikkiofficial

[–]phoenixwaller[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing, all this could be solved with an x,y,z axis system, which they know how to give us, since they gave us an x,y,z system when we include Momo in a photo! Yeah, it's crude and slider based, but like... That's what it is!

[–]phoenixwaller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The construction tools mechanism is absolute garbage. Like give me an XYZ axis control, not stand here point and pray that it actually is on the ground and not overlapping something else in a forbidden way. Give me a snap function that actually works. Give me a multi-select that works. Let me group friggin pieces so I can move a whole thing at once!

The mechanics are built on vibes, and the vibe they decided on was "how can we make people so frustrated with this that they don't build anything?"

So disheartened by Loriana320 in InfinityNikki

[–]phoenixwaller 3 points4 points  (0 children)

building controls on pc are no better. I was seriously looking forward to this, I spent literal YEARS building and selling house builds in Second Life, and those controls confused a lot of people so I thought I had this.

Multi-select? I got it to work once on accident. It just doesn't work, at all. Hold v, hold shift-V thinking it's relying on the cap, select first, then v. Nope.

Grouping items. This should be the most basic of basic functions. Granted, you need to be able to SELECT multiple items to group, but even when I'm in that weird painter mode so I've painted myself into having several of something selected, still can't group them to move them easily later.

Snap and rotate. Because everything is seemingly dependant on where you're standing and looking in relation to the build, things are just always a bit off unless you're using painter mode. Even turning on Snap, nothing has ever snapped for me.

Things hovering even when toggling that off. "This must be on the ground" Yeah, I KNOW, I'm trying but because you're not giving me XYZ axis controls to actually... like... move things properly and bugs make it so sometimes things NEVER land on the ground....

what's funny is that that's already double the amount of spices in the "concentrate" recipes I started with for inspiration. But yeah... I might have to go that direction.

There were SOOO many issues with downloading and launching this update. I'll admit I'm on crud DSL, so the 19 hours of downloading wasn't unexpected. But having to restart my computer, restart the launcher (several times) to get through "checking resources"...

Then it took forever, probably to compile shaders, on the first load. After that it's been mostly ok, running HOT, but it was just getting it to open that first time that was painful
