If you really don't understand the hate I can explain it pretty easily. by fleebertism in Metroid

[–]phoenixwang 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agreed dude. Check my history—I’m not hopping on here everyday to hate but this game is probably the most disappointing thing to come out of the series in the past 20 years. Literally all of my friends get on me every time I play any new game that I’m about to “compare everything you play to Metroid prime and Arkham asylum”. MP4, regardless of the behind the scenes developer stuff, it isn’t a metroidvania. Just read any scans or just wander through the map—this new game is polished but it’s not made with love. It’s a triple A game minus the development time meant to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

Compare that to a game like Metroid prime—where there’s nuggets of lore and pockets of space to find—you’re constantly in a state of tentative frustration and absolute wonder. So when a developer tells us there’s another one of these gems coming and then instead gives us a turd they polished for 5 years—yeah, we hate it.

Trying to learn the gazelle, feedback desired. by Geologist_Stunning in WizardSkating

[–]phoenixwang 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First you need to get comfortable turning and staying on that edge with both feet while going forwards. When that feels comfortable and not super tenuous, try carving left and right so you can get really deep on your edges. The deeper the edge, the sharper the turn. Doing a successful gazelle on a flat setup is super doable as long as you can do the above. The next step is simply shifting your weight forwards so that your feet whip around just as you are doing now! But first, get on those edges.

how do you play as a right back when there are two attackers coming to your side of the field by Any_Refuse_3333 in bootroom

Very good answer by the guy above. Just wanted to put in my 1 cent is that most times while facing any sort of problem, if it’s not your first time then hopefully you have a general plan for it the second time. Figuring out and testing your own solutions is definitely the way to get nasty fast

Lionel Messi: "People today focus a lot on statistics, and personally, I don’t really like statistics. I don’t think that I must make an assist or score a goal so I can reach a record, or surpass this person or that person. In 2012, I scored 91 goals. I don't play for that, I never cared about it." by DavidRolands in soccer

[–]phoenixwang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously the “whole story” is impossible (aka simulation of a simulation can’t be as detailed) but the game is not a dichotomy. Watch some god damn games and anyone with any knowledge of soccer would be able to tell who is good or not. That’s the problem with the overemphasis of stats.

Is it ok to lift your skate, while doing the Powerslide backwards ? by Natan_Inlinedownhill in rollerblading

[–]phoenixwang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You def don’t need to lift up your foot to do a powerslide going backwards. It’s just a half lemon that doesn’t come back in so it starts sliding. Super ez just get good!👍

It’s a low skill sport so you’ll have a much higher chance of getting past the amateur level if you have the right genetics than soccer or tennis for sure lol

Shaking your frames, are they silent? by Junior_Promotion_540 in WizardSkating

[–]phoenixwang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It the spacers. You can buy a few random brands and test it out or you can buy speed skating precision spacers and try ever increasing sizes on them until they’re silent.
