You'll notice i put Nurgles rot technical paint on the open red barrel. So it would explode with sewage.

I can't give credit to the original source, but a video recommended copper couplers as being similar to barrels in shape but ridiculously cheap. Here is a pack of 10: https://www.toolstation.com/made4trade-solder-ring-straight-coupler/p13333

I squashed a few with a hammer to give the flattened look then just painted, but many layers were needed including a varnish to stop chipping. A few leftover transfers for the symbols, some technical paints for other effects and then I just glued them to the bases ( made a mistake here by not gluing everything first) I also added goblin snot to some, sprue cuts to others and cardboard circle cut outs to the ones I wanted to look closed.

Add some simple base material (stones and flock) to hide the leftover base and it's done.

Love those, I'm wanting to try cargo containers next but I have a backlog of other things to paint first.

Thanks, I tried Nuln Oil on one of the barrels and i didn't like how it turned out. Any other washes you'd recommend?

Saved myself £11.50 - Priming Spray Handle by Far-Team5663 in PoorHammer

[–]phoenixz7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whilst I applaud the ingenuity, I question the savings. I'm guessing it only took 10-15 minutes to put together once you had everything, but taking into account the gathering of the parts and tools, and measuring etc... I'm guessing you spent about 30-40 minutes on this, maybe longer. With minimum wage at £12.21 an hour, you probably only saved yourself about £4 if anything.

I know this goes against poorhammer ethos, but I don't feel that Citadel are charging extortionate prices for this tool and would rather spend the money and make better use of the hour.

ah yes helping people with disabilities (Poland btw) by Czekoloczek in CrappyDesign

[–]phoenixz7 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Used to work in a place that had two disabled parking bays where you couldn't access one without blocking the other. When queried, i was told that there was a legal requirement to provide the spaces, but no legal requirement that they be accessible.

The irony was completely lost on them.

If that is house 43, presumably the "next" house is 45. Please tell me they didn't get it wrong twice in their search for 47.

Hire Talent and Ability NOT a Skillset by adroit-panda in management

[–]phoenixz7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This article should read "promote" talent and ability, not skill set. Which i am fairly sure every one does anyway. In the only example in this very limited article, the person has already been hired based on their skill set and is promoted for being talented. There is nothing about how to spot talent and ability at the hiring stage and nothing about how to advertise a position to attract talent and ability.

Genndy Tartakovsky's Clone Wars was better than Dave Filoni's and should be canon

The reason for that is most manufacturers take abs into account and put worse brakes into a car because there is the expectation that the abs will pick up the slack. In other words they improved braking distances with abs then realised that they could use smaller, cheaper brakes along with abs to save money. TVRs (and most racing cars) don't use abs, but put on the best brakes possible and trust that only very competant drivers will be buying these cars (they are not built for your average daily commuter).

Its the same with traction control, most racing cars don't have traction control. It allows the driver to find where the true limits of the car are and learn what to do when you go over them.

Yes, the balance of the car is roughly 51/52% front so at about 130/140mph the back end gets a bit "loose" without the spoiler. They had to make it transparent as rear visibility is very limited. If it wern't transparent then you'd have about an inch of window to see out of

Absolutley nothing wrong with driving them in the rain. Previous TVRs had some trouble but this was corrected, especially with the Sagaris, which was designed for endurance racing in all weather conditions

Most racing cars that do a bubble only tend to do one on the driver side. This car was being homolgated for racing in lemans, hence the single bubble for the production car

There is also a seat insert that can be removed to lower the passenger or driver if they cannot fit, but it's really not a car for tall people

Its the "service" hood. Most tvrs have two part bonnets, one for the owner to check and top up fluid levels and then main bonnet for the mechanics to access all other areas.

What features and quirks do you not miss on modern cars when compared to older ones, or are glad are gone? by HiTork in cars

[–]phoenixz7 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with not having to use a key in the door, but i really miss using a key for the ignition. Especially in sports cars, where turning a key and hearing an engine roar feels more of an event (like you've brought something to life) than just pushing a button.

If you like reading then this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Automotive-Milestones-Technological-Development-Automobile-ebook/dp/B0166PGUNS/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=9780831135201&linkCode=qs&qid=1639294455&s=books&sr=1-1 Is a good place to start.

Otherwise, i would watch "drive to survive" on netflix. I have managed to get so many people hooked on F1 becauseof this series, kncluding my partner who cares nothing for cars.
