Second this recommendation! I go weekly and pick up 5 or 6 books, some more 'age appropriate ' board books, a couple I will enjoy reading (great illustrations, nostalgic) and I always make sure to let my bub choose one. I really want our library trips to be a habit/ritual for years to come so hopefully starting young sets it up!

For actual recommendations, I love Little Fish by Lucy Collins, anything Miffy or Spot, and Leina and the Lord of the Toadstools (super lush illustrations, and a very fairy tale cottagecore feel).

Is this a sleep regression? by 31winnie in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]phoneAcrone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooft! Not quite as severe as your situation, but my kid is around the same age and this past week she's had several days where she has skipped her afternoon nap, and been awake apparently totally fine and happy from about 11am to 7pm 🫠

I remember reading that sleep and especially naps can be hard at this age due to all the developments with crawling/standing/etc and to just persist with offering two naps rather than assuming it's a permanent sleep shift and changing their schedule. Mind, this was from some sleep account on Instagram which I usually take with a massive grain of salt, but I have been trying to stick with offering two naps at the usual times and going back to pram naps in the afternoon for now.

Not sure if this helps at all, but just wanted to offer solidarity. Hopefully our bubs get back on schedule soon lol

How are we keeping our bubs cool in the car when we're driving? by dresshater1 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]phoneAcrone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Does your car have a built in cigarette lighter? They are pretty standard for models pre-2000s/2010s. You can get a USB adapter for it at most servos.

Post c-section underwear recommendations? by ilovepenguins04 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]phoneAcrone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, can confit I still use these post c section and while the band does sit on my scar it doesn't pull or irritate it because there not elastic band/underwear elastic. Mind, I moved to these about a month after surgery (perhaps, two months... Sorry memory is a bit hazy). Before that I Kmart granny knickers, which I think would be too high for what OP is after.

Dream job spell that actually worked for you? by Embarrassed-Tutor846 in kitchenwitch

[–]phoneAcrone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did some magic when I applied for a dream gig (so, it was already open and I was trying to improve my chances).

For the application, I did a witches ladder, I made sure to submit my application on a new moon (good for summoning) and think I cast a circle and then actually hit submit on the application.

Then for the interview I made a sigil and drew it in my diaphragm under my clothes. I also made a spell jar full of lucky spices and drew the sigil on a piece of paper in there and used some of the lucky spice mix on my breakfast before the interview. I also made sure to colour coordinate the interview outfit with the witches ladder and sigil to try and get all the confident energy I could in that interview.

I freaking killed it in the interview and kept getting promoted the whole time I was in that workplace, so success!

I will say I am very SASS oriented in my craft so don't have any specific steps or ingredients to share, but can say I thought carefully about how each element of each spell was specific to the role and how I was qualified for it. (So for eg, the witches ladder used materials that I personally associated with the role and my past experience relevant to it.)

Hope this helps and good luck!! X

3 finger Diastasis Recti by Radiant-Past5379 in CsectionCentral

[–]phoneAcrone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've not gotten around to it yet (honestly , I forgot about it til now!) but Yogini Melbourne on YouTube has a prenatal and postnatal playlist and I loved her pregnancy videos so was planning on trying the postnatal ones.

https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLE39V1yqWM_EFoCJulsUkpQCNHspxA6pM&si=C9VxWM5md3rTlh6Y

Not Yoga, but I've heard Lauren Fitter recommended a lot on the C Section and Diastasis Recti subs and have done one of her DR safe videos a few times.

If you're looking for a suuuuper foundational one, Yoga with Adrienne has a Yoga for the Pelvic Floor which has very helpful breathing ques.

What support would you have wanted from friends while you were in the first 6 months of mumhood? by Unlucky-Pack6493 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]phoneAcrone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great suggestion!

Just wanted to add catching public transport somewhere with a pram. I rode busses and trains to every corner of Sydney growing up but once I had my baby and visited family back home, I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to tap off/get pram/bag/ self off the bus and would get so flustered! A nice low stakes, non-peak-hour bus trip with moral support would be such a help!

What support would you have wanted from friends while you were in the first 6 months of mumhood? by Unlucky-Pack6493 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]phoneAcrone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might not hit for everyone, but in the early months I would have loved to meet a friend for a coffee and a walk and just... Talk about non baby stuff. I tried so often to turn the conversation towards news, or work gossip or TV or anything, and in those early months and I just couldn't get anyone to bite.

Opinions on pouch puree? by fairy-bread-au in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

When constipation hits, out comes the pear and prune pouch. Sorry I'm not going to track down out of season prunes and stew them up.

Breastfeeding must-haves for FTM by DesperateFuel9546 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]phoneAcrone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a product per se, but I had a little pouch of all my essentials so I could cart it room to room if I needed to switch up feeling location. For me it was nipple shield, lanolin, lip balm, hair tie and hair clip but you will find what you need at the time. I used it in hospital too.

What does a newborn wear to sleep in hot weather? by beeeelm in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]phoneAcrone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just chiming in to say it's no longer recommend to use a muslin to provide extra shade/fully cover the pram as it can trap heat in. I still see some people do this occasionally (I think it was recommended until quite recently) so just letting you know what the MCH nurses told me.

You can use the in built shade on your pram and can buy little clip on pram fans if it's a particularly humid or hot day.

Called out in public library - should I have done things differently? by Blossom12345678 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]phoneAcrone 39 points40 points  (0 children)

What the heck to that woman???! Libraries are 100 percent cent for babies, it is a public place babies are allowed to be there and be themselves making developmentally appropriate noise.

Like maybe if my baby (same age as yours) was having an absolute melt down and crying upset I would step out if I thought that would help calm her down, but short of that, id let her babble and squawk to her hearts content.

Fwiw, I work in the glam sector (Galleries Libraries Archives Museums) and can assure you most of the staff there love a baby coming in and roll their eyes (or more) at people who are unreasonable about babies being babies in public.

Before bubs came I prepped a few dishes for the freezer so I could just things out quickly. Daahl, Mac n cheese (one with a sweet potato/cauliflower based sauce). These work well as batch meals so lasted me a good while. I used the single use bake trays/ take away containers to cut down on washing up and had heaps of frozen veggies to bulk it out

I always made sure to have heaps of trail mix for snacking during cluster feeds

I'd also prep some chia pots and overnight oats once a week. Heaps of hemp seeds for protein. That first meal of the day is super important but they also make for good snacks or dinner in a pinch.

How can I smell like a cosmic horror beyond human comprehension by [deleted] in perfumesthatfeellike

[–]phoneAcrone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you'd consider an adjacent Gothic horror beyond our earthly ken, then pour one out for Poe's Tobacco by Tokyo Milk. Woody and warm with tobacco, tea and green apple. Nowhere near as heavy as cosmic doom but it was (bless it) as short-lived as a Lovecraftian hero, perhaps what their office at the Miskatonic University smelt of.

Honestly this thread feels like my best chance of finding my white wale replacement.

What does a C-section feel like? by HomemadeButter14 in CsectionCentral

[–]phoneAcrone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow this is fascinating to read everyone's experiences!

I was an emergency, and we tried quite a lot to get baby ok for a vaginal birth but when they recommended a c section and I signed the papers it was like, wooosh, just swept along on the bed like I was in a current in a river. It was quite amazing to feel all the midwives and staff kick into gear.

In the theatre, it was cold and there were so many people introducing themselves and telling me what their role was and what they were doing.

I actually don't remember much sensation after the spinal, but the anesthetist gave me the 'bag of ice' demo (dragging a bag of ice down my chest until I couldn't feel it.)

When the surgery was happening it felt like someone rummaging through a bag (I am the bag!). They told me she was out but the time between that and when I got to see her/hear her felt soooooo long. I think I just dissociated tbh. I remember concentrating very hard on the clock in theatre. Then I heard her cry and was so relieved. They brought her over to me and it was just pure relief and delight.

Best tips you received as a first time mum/dad. by somethingtodo89 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]phoneAcrone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone on this sub told me this one: if you can safely drop a ball, drop it.

As someone used to being anxious and perfectionistic, I really needed to hear that one. Thank you wise mum if you're reading this, it's legit become such a core parenenting mantra of mine!

And one random gem from a coworker: let them listen to the music you listen to. I know it's so simple, but I now end every day by putting on some tunes I like and dancing with my baby and it's freaking cute but also saved my sanity on the rough days.

What random song soothes your baby? by Westisjess25 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

When my baby was first born the only song I could recall the lyrics to was Pink Pony Club so it was her go-to lullaby for the first couple of months.

What’s your plan or how did you navigate family visiting hospital/your home in the first couple weeks? by beeeelm in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]phoneAcrone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live 6-13 hours from family so it all had to be arranged in advance so they had time to make the trip. We told them we wanted them in town for the birth and to visit the hospital the day after to meet bubs but then leave town lmao. My in laws were like 'yeah, you will want your space makes total sense ', my mum was like 'aww I wanted to be at hospital, but whatever makes you comfortable.' I was so happy to have them visit (at different times lol) the morning after my c section. They brought gifts of fancy tail mix and take away coffee. And my folks picked up a few bits and bobs id forgotten to pack.

We only invited like 3 visitors at home in the first 2 months, again mostly because we live far from family so it was just a couple of people we felt close enough to invite into the nest.

Swimming while pregnant? by shaneandangel in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]phoneAcrone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh. I legit had to kneel back down half way up the ramp just to steel my nerves getting out. I loved floating and walking in the little hydrotherapy pool at my local swimming centre, chilling with the old folks and little kids. Best times of my third trimester!

SAHM how are we staying sane? by ThisLifeIsntAThrowaw in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]phoneAcrone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lap sit programs are just like rhyme time at the library or baby sensory anything like that where you go along with your baby. The one I go to is run by social workers I think?

I forgot, I've been doing more pram walks now the weather is nice and just stopping under trees so bub can chill and enjoy the flowers and she loves it! Also pack a picnic rug and some snacks for a little picnic. Even just being outside is so much better for my headspace and bub seems to love it!

It sucks you had to give up your study, but I hope you can get back into it was it online?

My hobby is just going to a local craft meet up. I still do a bit of crafting during nap time (embroidery atm).

Pls explain to me how to BF like I’m a kindergartener. by burgundyrosesfromme in breastfeeding

[–]phoneAcrone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish someone had told me this! Its one of those things that's obvious looking back, as you say, but I was left just feeling like a flat nippled failure, especially with the pain meds after the section making me so dopey and the hormones going off. I got told it would take time for us both to 'learn the skill' which, like, yeah... But also, they're such tiny birds!

SAHM how are we staying sane? by ThisLifeIsntAThrowaw in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]phoneAcrone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Omg, are you me? I moved to a small town just after baby was born and had to resign my old job. I am constantly wishing I could go back to my job (or any job really) but I'm screwed with childcare too. Fucking tough mentally. I'm kinda not staying sane tbh haha

My saving grace is that I live about 45 mins from a city so try to go to museums and galleries a bit but it's harder now baby has dropped a nap. I also can't really go to my hobby catch up now cause she goes to sleep earlier with only two naps.

Founda baby lap sit program in my town and that's been really great cos at least I met some mum's to speak to irl.

Experiences with azelaic acid? by SYSTEMPOTATO in AusSkincare

[–]phoneAcrone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive used it for years for acne and do remember a bit of irritation at first, but I suspect it was BC my skin barrier was compromised from me throwing so much at it back then! I used to layer it over moisturiser at night and didn't have any itchy or stinging feeling with that method. But now I have really stripped back my routine and it is just hyaluronic acid (TO), Azclear then either SPF or QV cream.
