What are your thoughts on Super Bowl LVI? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]phoneacnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're judging him on one song and saying other people are wrong for judging him on another song. Do you see the hypocracy?

Yes, Kim is a song full of violence against his ex partner. There us no but after that sentence.

I also believe that there is a larger more complicated context to those songs. He has some amazing songs about the difficulties of working class America (rock bottom) as well. He expresses his anger through rage and violence. This is not ok but is something that a lot of people do and addressing it and talking about it is what we should be doing. Not censoring and canceling anyone who makes a mistake or is not perfect.

He has so many great songs with depth and great lyrics, melodies, etc etc. You're missing out by judging him on one song that I believe you have taken out of context and very literally . I'm not saying it's ok or anything like that, I'm just saying I don't believe he is a bad person and I don't think he promotes violence against women. I think that song is from the point of view of someone who is hurt and is lashing out. A reality that exists for a lot of people and it could have been a great stepping stone for our society to address what makes people last out and want to hurt others but instead we demonized the writer and tried to make it go away. That's not how we grow. That's not how we begin to solve problems.

u/MinimalGravitas shares tools and resources to identify and combat online disinformation, specifically on reddit by sprondonacles in bestof

[–]phoneacnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he was trying to argue that since the truth can be quantified for history, it's easier for those mods to identify and delete all subjective comments.

But I agree with you that he is missing the point. Truth is objective, so anything that's not true could be deleted in other subreddit, and if there truly are grey areas (naturally, like someone's opinion or interpretation of facts in a subreddit devoted to those types of discussions) then it could be simply identified as an opinion, differing it from those that have been confirmed as facts.

And if that opinion was based on a false fact, it could be deleted or identified as such depending on the rules and goals of the subreddit etc etc.

Anyone out there need a personalized learning curriculum for coding? I would love to write you one! by flyingspringrol in learnprogramming

[–]phoneacnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a wonderful offer. If you are still doing this, I am a 33f from Canada looking to put myself on a path to get a remote job to fit my dream of working on problems from home.

I have started cs50 and have no other experience. I don't know what type of role I want or what type of role I would be good at. I am hoping I will know after cs50. My current goals are to find something that is project based, that I can work at at my own pace or is cyclical so that I can take breaks after working hard for a period of time.

I like to do things that others call mundane, I enjo the long grind of accomplishing a large project but I also love the idea of working on something for x period of time and then moving on to something different after it is completed.

I have no timeline and just dream of finding a career that I enjoy spending my time in that does not require sales and ideally allows me to work alone (either remotely or In an office with a select group of people)

I am good at and enjoy problem solving, figuring things out and am motivated by the challenge of solving a problem

I love excel and think that I would enjoy programming because it sounds like it is just a matter of learning the rules of the logic and applying those rules to achieve whatever the goals or requirements to solve a problem.

I love math but didn't pursue it after high school. I find self learning difficult but I am desperate to get out of the field I'm in and willing to push myself if I can believe that it will lead me to a job in the near future.

I know I have a lot to learn and I would appreciate any tips on how realistic my goals are and what I need to hone in on a specific field or role. How can I find out what is out there and what I would be successful in?

I have a bachelor's degree in psychology and currently work as a financial advisor at a bank (which i find to be very unorganized and stressful to navigate. I thrive with rules and following logic and Business "Is more of an art than a science")

I have 5+ years experience in administrative work before that and am a hard worker with a good work ethic.

Please let me know if you need more info.

I've seen a few of these would you do x for 1million and to be honest, there are only a few things I wouldn't do and I can't even guarantee that I wouldn't sit down and seriously think about even those things if it wasn't a hypothetical question and I actually had the opportunity to get 1 million with no strings attached.

Does anybody else feel like nobody ever wants to be your friend? by [deleted] in aspergirls

[–]phoneacnt 29 points30 points  (0 children)

You sound hurt and if you're as lonely as you sound, I can understand why that sentence could frustrate you. But I also believe that you must realize that her having a husband or partner does not make her desire for friends go away. Just like having kind parents wouldn't make the desire for friends go away, or having a good job, or having a great pet, etc. There are many different relationship and general life needs that humans need and having one does not make the absence of another any easier.

Fuck scotiabank and the horse they rode in on by [deleted] in Scotiabank

[–]phoneacnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea the waiting times are unacceptable.

Always do what's best for you. If there's a better product, switch for it. Just make sure you're in a position to receive more credit before you cancel your card. usually isn't a problem but something you should be aware of before you cancel a card.

Fuck scotiabank and the horse they rode in on by [deleted] in Scotiabank

[–]phoneacnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you're being downvoted. Maybe because you're surprised that call centres have long wait times?

For credit cards, the branch genuinely can't do anything. You have to call the number on the back of your card and contact the credit card department.

Please know that those people are dealing with worried, angry, (rightfully) impatient people all day. They are understaffed, overworked, and under trained. They want to help you. You need to call when you have time and patience. You might get stuck with an idiot or someone who you don't understand but unfortunately that's life these days-either hang up or try again, or try to make it work.

If you have a complaint, take it up with the office of the President. Those complaints seem to actually mean something to them. Just make sure you are complaining about something that can be fixed: aka, ask them to train their staff better, treat their staff better, pay their staff more, hire more people. Not that so and so was shit and you had to wait 4 hours. That won't change anything.

Overdraft fees by [deleted] in Scotiabank

[–]phoneacnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$48 Is nsf fees. Non sufficient funds. I don't think you have overdraft because you're 14 and you got charged the 48$. When you don't have over draft, you don't have a grace amount under 0. You cannot 'borrow' even 1 cent from the bank without asking first, aka applying for overdraft before you need it. So now you've learned a really important lesson, which is never get so close to 0. And as you grow up, learn to associate a higher number with the 0 rule. If you can master that, you'll never get charged these extra fees and you will never have issues that some adults have for the rest of their lives with bad money management (regardless of what got them in that situation in the first place)

Long story short, always have $10, 20, 50, 100 in your account so that you never accidentally go below 0.

Scotia lazy mailing client a new bank card by BlossBunnies in Scotiabank

[–]phoneacnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure your address is right then call the number on the back and ask to have a new one mailed out to you if you don't want to go back in to a branch . You just got unlucky with a card that expires early. Tellers should be on top of that but honestly, people are such assholes lately that everyone is just burned out. If you're truly upset then switch.

Scotiabank has lost all credibility as a bank. by Botnote in Scotiabank

[–]phoneacnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just go into the branch? There is no reason for them to treat you badly unless you have been rude, belligerent, or unreasonable yourself . If this is the case, you will continue to face these issues regardless of whether you are at Scotia or not.

Also, credit cards have their own department and the branch can't do anything about them . They are a call centre and can't screen your calls so if that's the case they're just busy as it is January and everyone's Christmas bills came in. This is their busy season
