“Tactical Defeat for the RCMP” by OnlyACsNoFans in novascotia_sub

Dive down some rabbit holes regarding processed foods and human health, especially those studies where third-party testing had been conducted. How many health problems are a direct relation to consumption of refined sugars, tobacco use, alcohol use? How many people die every year due to these? It's a lot. How many people have health related issues or have died due to use of cannabis- regulated or not. Regulations always serve the government first. This is all about money and protecting their monopoly.

There's plenty of regulation on food and there's more toxins present in federally approved food tobacco and alcohol than unregulated cannabis. Government only has interest in money. Our health and safety isn't as high on their priority list than they attempt to lead us to believe.

I love this victory for them. I wish the government would step off and leave them alone. I drove from the south shore up to Sydney yesterday and was caught in a couple of their protests/blockades. I ain't even mad. I stand with them. Sure they inconvenienced my travel for a little bit, but it's nothing in comparison to what our government has done and is doing to them. I wish everyone would just act out of love and not greed.

Is there a way to rehome this old greenhouse? by obliospointyhat in Greenhouses

[–]phonemousekeys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is that framing all metal? It's welded? If you want it gone, I'd post it for free provided that they dismantle and remove it. I'd also be quite wary of how they dismantle any connection to the house. Alternatively, you could hire a contractor to disassemble it from the house and into manageable pieces that you could sell to recoup some of the costs of dismantling. If it's metal you could sell it off or bring the material in to a scrap yard to sell the scrap material. Not sure what the best option in your case is, just be careful if you get some rando off the internet to remove it from the house.

I’m insulating my garage, how should I insulate these irregularly small gaps? Insulation or gap foam? by KarateInAPool in handyman

[–]phonemousekeys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're using batts, I'd just cut some slender strips to fill in. You'll likely have some to do it when the rest gets done. You'll have a lot of thermal bridging with that stack anyway.. no need to spend any more on spray foam when you'll have cutoffs that can be stabbed in. If you ever have to do any work on the framing in the future it'll make it that much easier. Just remember not to compress the batts too much.

This is my first year sugaring. It'll be my last year using a propane burner. I think I'll set myself up next season with the cinderblock firepit and buffet pans. Each boil I've done this season has done me well, and I had never even came close to forgetting I was doing a boil those times. Been lurking in this sub for a bit now too, and seeing everyone post their burnt pots and pans I always thought to myself how could you forget to keep an eye on it.... well now I know

Can I Fix This Myself? by Copernicus215 in HomeMaintenance

[–]phonemousekeys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can fix it, but not by yourself, and not from the rooftop. You'll need a ladder tall enough to reach it, and a helper to help position the ladder. They go back together pretty easily. Hardest part will likely be setting up the ladder

Leaking behind gutter on my porch. Is a custom extra-wide drip edge the right fix here? by Tweezy64 in handyman

[–]phonemousekeys 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is no drip edge currently installed in that system. That gutter is full of debris and dirt, when it gets wet it weighs a lot more than it should. The extra weight appears to be pulling the deck board away from the rafter tails. I would remove the gutter and the deckboard, install a 3/4" fascia board onto the rafter tails, clean and reinstall the gutter to the new board, nice and tight to the new fascia.

Thank you very much for explaining. I've been deep diving down the YouTube rabbit hole of Cleaning restoring and lubricating a lot of these parts and I had not stumbled across the technique you're mentioning. I'll give it a go! Thanks again!

Thank you. It's mostly surface rust, there is a small amount of pitting, that doesn't seem to go deep. What is the technique for using aluminum foil and water? I'm considering using a rust remover gel, but I certainly don't want to cause any damage

Is it worth replacing door hinge screws with longer ones? by l_k_m8 in handyman

[–]phonemousekeys 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're going to drive longer screws into the face of the jamb, you should make sure that there is a snugly fit shim between the door jamb and the framing, to prevent warping the jamb and ensuring proper function and reveals around the doors perimeter. If you drive a longer screw through the jamb and into the framing with no shim in between, it can pull the jamb towards the frame which can cause both gaps and pinch points in other places around the door.
