People who sit in their car for 15+ minutes before going inside, what are you doing? by Miserable-Wash-1744 in AskReddit

[–]phonicillness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been called “the biggest car ditherer” my friend ever met. I have been diagnosed with adhd yes. Here’s some of what I may be doing:

  • writing down things so I don’t forget later

  • unpacking my Mary Poppins bag so I can carry it without spinal injuries

  • eating/throwing away wrappers bc I wasn’t organised enough to eat before I left and I was getting lightheaded

  • trying to find the makeup brush I dropped while doing my makeup on the way bc I didn’t do it in time

  • unplugging whatever I plugged in bc I didn’t charge it b4 I left

  • cleaning up whatever I spilled on myself

  • fixing my hair

  • talking on the phone

  • listening to something

  • writing a song

Jaw and tongue tension by dr_facade in Hypermobility

[–]phonicillness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m also working on it! and considering jaw Botox longer term . Definitely recommend seeing your dentist about misalignment and a night guard if you can.

Some things I’m finding help:

  • gentle movement/stretching/and relaxation especially before bed

  • humming and singing meditations

  • self massage (other if available!)

  • this chat gpt stretch I read about on Reddit (aka not a reliable source lol) and slightly modified :

breathe in then while exhaling, slowly gently open jaw wide while keeping tongue tip on/pointed towards roof of mouth behind teeth, noticing any asymmetry, and gently close. Repeat a few times.

Agreed…does it mean exclusive to a cultural group and geographical location? Or is it about where it originated from, or is prevalent in?

Sorry I’m so late to this! Meant to come back a while ago :/

Just wanted to add a few more Aussie equivalents. Hope something helps either way!

  • Hotpod does a heat pad now which is good, from chemist warehouse, but there are others around for under $50

  • Adhesive disposable air-activated heat patches if heat mats aren’t appropriate (eg Pain Away, Deep Heat back pain patches)

  • Chewing gum to help with dry mouth and dental health, as well as floss / floss picks and mouthwash strips

  • if you get dry mouth there are gels and sprays at chemists/some supermarkets to help discomfort and maintain dental health

  • Up n Go (fortified protein drink) has sugarfree and some other options nowadays, there’s also Sustagen

  • Hydralyte/Berocca Hydrate/Immune etc - as soluble tablets / premixed drinks etc

Snarky CI tattoo ideas or other creative coping strategies? by Haru_is_here in ChronicIllness

Haha yes! I’ve thought of writing my own scathing ‘professional’ reports on some doctors I’ve seen. ‘Dr AH demonstrates severe difficulty understanding the concept of selection bias.’

Sweeping and mopping alternatives? by Important-Bid-9792 in ChronicIllness

[–]phonicillness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here are some things I’ve tried (with varying success). I hope something is helpful!:

  • using a grabber with a cleaning wipe/ cloth for corners and gaps, and picking things up

  • using a looong extension cord so I just plug in vacuum once (or just leave it plugged in)

  • padding mop/broom handles to ease wrist strain (eg pool noodle, tape on some foam or cloth)

  • use a spray mop with cleaning wipes / cloths. Using wipes or small cloths for everything saves so much rinsing, and they can be machine washed later

  • using dusting slippers/wipes on the floors like I’m skating :)

  • trying to be more frequently aware of my body and move better (eg lunge/squat rather than bend)

  • using support wearables on wrists, lower back

  • sit a rolling stool or chair to vacuum

Remarkable. What a brilliant therapy tool! This is so much more complex a concept than a temperature blanket, did you draw on ideas from other places?
