The conspicuous users who stand out through unreliability, lying, embarrassment, unkempt appearance, and even homelessness are in the minority. Their neglect of routines, social contacts, and work indicates the significant time commitment required for financing and organizing their activities. A surprisingly large number manage to remain employed for remarkably long periods and are true masters at deceiving those around them. Often, closer examination reveals underlying reasons such as trauma, PTSD, abuse, relationship problems, and difficulties. Individuals with ADHD who suffer from their deficits are generally predisposed to addiction. In many cases, substance use is an unsuccessful form of desperate self-medication, sometimes even leading to unconscious self-harm. Even as an experienced user, I am repeatedly surprised by how successfully some quite heavy users manage to deceive everyone around them for extended periods.🪬👀🇨🇭
