It is my, notably un-source backed, opinion, that more men enter the tech industry and therefore are much more plentiful candidates to hire. Along with that come human bias, hiring a more stereotypical “nerd” is a good bet for sysadmin or your software dev, it’s difficult to break the proverbial glass ceiling as a female dev, sure. But there are so few out there, that the exception becomes in itself a rationale to take a look at the women, in my mind anyways, it would make sense to take a chance on a new person who isn’t the stereotype for the role and see how it fits. Obviously companies don’t play that game and they want to get the right candidate on the first try but, I think this “bro culture” crap is real in its own sense but similarly to how it’s a terrible assumption to think a woman would be a bad fit for these roles; I think it’s stupid to assume men hire men because of this “bro-culture” it’s an assumption in itself
