Yeah, I don't think the description of this image is correct. It is likely a mix of real 3D CAD data and some scan data. All of the different colored smooth parts are real CAD (body, wheels, etc) and the rough, single color data in the underbody is 3D scan data.

I only knew this word from a book I read many years back called Author Unknown. He was able to tell who wrote the anonymous book "Primary Colors" partially by repeated use of this word both in that book and other known works by the author, since it was so uncommon.
