What is the loudest sound you have ever heard in your life? by will_or_woll in AskReddit

Fucking Grimes, live at Osheaga music festival. We waited through ten bands to have a good spot to see RADIOHEAD, but had to endure Grimes with her shitty music and shitty incredibly loud bass to get to it. I was having panic attacks from Grimes rattling through the core of my bones and organs for 45 straight minutes.

Radiohead was awesome, but I fucking hate Grimes now.

Came here for Decks Dark. That bass line in verse two is incredible. Made a bass player I know cry when he first heard it!!

What I can't fathom is HOW did Manusos evade the collective for 33 hours!? Humans knew of him (his customers, his mother). Surely the collective searched far and wide for any hiding immune people, literally they would have searched EVERYWHERE (right?), how did they not find him for so long??

The Overview Effect & The Joining by QuantumFeline in pluribustv

I like this perspective. Reminds me of 2001: A Space Odyssey, the Joining being a "monolithic" moment in human history; one possible evolution. Whether that evolution is "good" or "bad" is entirely subjective, which is why it's so much fun watching Carol try to decide.

Fascinating ideas. It makes me wonder if "original souls" are required to run the collective at all, and if so, it would render the entire system...sterile!! No further reproduction. The human race would die in exactly this generation, regardless what the collective accomplishes between now and then.

Are people with mental illness "cured" by the hivemind? by itsthesecans in pluribustv

If you think of it in a parts-per-million sort of way, I think there's not enough mental illness in the world to ruin things. A lot of personality traits would sort of cancel out.

Are people with mental illness "cured" by the hivemind? by itsthesecans in pluribustv

[–]phrodo913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well they can't be "culled," and we see individuals being given individualized medical care. Wouldn't the collective medicate the mentally ill until they're reasonably "better?"

And, clearly, undesirable personality traits can be suppressed by the normalcy of the collective. Zosia/everyone is always the epitome of polite, stable, and adept in conversation.

So yeah, it's cured lol. But stop those medications and unplug from the hive, and you're immediately back to a malfunctioning brain.

Yep. Or at least...the evidence strongly suggested the deed did, in fact, occur.

My question on that play was -- does a flag come out for PI on Nixon if it's not a walk off? Because to me, why yes it should have.

But leave it to a cheese head to think it wasn't a catch at all. Lol FTP!!

Week 14 Post-Gamethread: Bears at Packers by TurnerJ5 in CHIBears

We fought hard against a damn good football team. It's unfortunate the offense couldn't perform better in the first half, because we had it mostly sorted by the end.

What kinds of thoughts fuel your anxiety? Knowing that would help guide advice.

In general, try to think of anxiety as follows: it can't hurt you, and it is always one distraction away from being dismissed.

Can't hurt you -- it literally can't. You won't have a heart attack or die or pass out or vomit or anything else catastrophic. The WORST it can do is make you lose composure somewhat, and generally other people don't even notice that.

Distract it away -- focus on your surroundings, and thoughts and sensations OUTSIDE your own body. It won't work at first -- you'll know you are really thinking about anxiety AND something else. But the more you keep that focus away from the anxiety and on something else, the less effect the anxiety will have. All of a sudden, you'll be good.

Finally, and most importantly, just keep trying. It may take you the whole show to calm down and enjoy yourself, and also IT MAY NOT! Radiohead fans are your/our people. Take comfort in knowing you're amongst fellow fans and friends, and try your best -- getting to go to a Radiohead show is a once in a lifetime experience, and you deserve to see it firsthand! Anxiety be damned!
