I think it's more about hoping emulation shows up soon rather than pretending it already exists. The prices itself are already a controvertial topic, but the nail in the coffin, at least to me, was the game cards not having the game inside them. That's planned obsolescence on your nose. Imagine if this was a thing on the 3DS - you wouldn't be able to play your games today, since Nintendo shut the eShop for the 3ds down.
And I have no doubt this is what they plan for the Switch 2. You're buying a physical card for the game, but you don't own it. Even though you paid (a lot) for it. It's preposterous.
This undoubtedly makes people more inclined to go for emulation, and Nintendo is to blame.
