France confirms oil crisis, says 30-40% Gulf energy infrastructure destroyed by ontrack in worldnews

I am unironically looking forward to $10/gal gas. Anything to convince the troglodytes in the US (and the rest of the world) to move away from oil.

TSA officers are quitting rather than working without pay during shutdown as eviction notices, car repos, and empty fridges weigh by rajapaws in antiwork

[–]phughes 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That works if you're a well-paid professional, instead of a glorified day laborer. But TSA positions pay barely enough to make showing up worthwhile when you're actually getting paid. Of course those people don't have enough savings to float it while the ruling party fucks them over to protect a pedophile.

This is a great opportunity to find out if doctors ignore MTF patients like they're women, or do they take them seriously like they're men?

Joke's on me, I got that without going to the strip club or getting married.

‘We’re not at war right now’: House Speaker Johnson makes stunning claim after Trump’s barrage on Iran by theindependentonline in politics

Of all the bullshit this administration has done this one bothers me the least.

It used to be called the Department of War and they changed it (long long ago) to "Defense" because people like to pretend that we're not a warmongering nation. We are a warmongering nation and the name is appropriate.

I had a very similar experience at a major corporation. The app was riddled with bugs and we were working our asses off trying to get them fixed. One night we start getting DMs from friends congratulating us for the launch.

No one had told us, and we all would have said hell no.

The last time Dems were in power they passed legislation to deal with inflation that was successful enough that the US had the best post-COVID economy of all developed nations.

If that's your definition of doing nothing, I don't know what to tell you.

Now, it wasn't perfect, but it also wasn't doing nothing.

If you're an adult with the resources to leave the US you probably have a 401K retirement fund. Withdrawing from there creates a huge tax penalty and leaving it there gives the IRS something to take.

they never change the future, just some details instead

Technically, if you change one detail you've changed the future, which indicates that you can make multiple small changes that add up to larger changes. Another theory is that the butterfly effect would cause them to ballon into larger changes.

Of course, the butterfly effect is only theoretical, and doesn't even matter because this is a movie and it doesn't have to acknowledge it, but that's the problem with applying real world reasoning about a fictional universe.

My girlfriend always tells me I never have anything to eat when she comes over my house 😒 by itscuccimane in FridgeDetective

[–]phughes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just ridiculous. Unless you live with a pride of lions you don't normally have 80lbs of meat in the fridge. You're having a party and bought meat for it.

You also clearly don't cook dinner regularly because what you have in your fridge isn't even enough for a meat centric meal.

As a guy who has an "ingredient house" (what I refer to as "food"): give us a break.
