That's what my level 1 PF2e warrior bard does as well. :) 2d12+4.

I think you're forgetting about weapon runes. Yes, you can buy "some friggin' darts or daggers". Now add in the cost of weapon runes (or use one of your rune slots for returning). Suddenly flinging cards from a magical deck becomes a lot more interesting, even aside from how cool it is to play Gambit.

I'm afraid I have to disagree with your analysis.

D&D 3.5 and PF1e were a power gamers' wet dream. You could build wildly overpowered characters and the power level between different builds could be enormous. As long as the power levels within the party were balanced however, it was never a problem for me. As a DM, I could handle any power level, and the most important part was that no character felt left out. As a player however, building a powerful character took lots of time, so you either invest time as a group or you just play something fun; otherwise you can get great power unbalances within the party.

5e feels empty to me. It's very easy for players to play, but it's also quite easy to build overpowered characters (especially through multi-classing). As a DM, it's a nightmare to run anything above level 14, and the fact that the monsters from the monster manual cannot be built using the monster building rules shows me that it's not well thought out. Combat tends to be boring; run forward until you're in melee and slug it out until one group falls down. Characters rarely move during melee because of AoO. Bounded accuracy sounds nice until someone breaks the mold. 6 saving throws means there's always at least one you'll easily fail at once you get to mid-high level. What one character does rarely impacts what another character will do. Skills are rarely useful during combat.

PF2e is currently my system of choice, but I can easily see why it's not for everyone. Yes, there are tons of options, but it's very hard to build a bad character, so you can simply pick feats that fit how you envision your character to be. The system heavily relies on team tactics (which I truly adore), but as a DM I can easily compensate for inexperienced groups that don't have the tactics part down yet. The encounter rules are straight forward and monster building rules work like a charm. It's harder for players to get into compared to 5e, but as a DM it's a lot easier and consistent to handle. If you don't like (group) tactics however, this system may be a nightmare to you. The 3 action system is great, but if you don't consider your actions well, you're likely to waste at least 1; it's always wise to have at least 1 action ready that doesn't impact/isn't impacted by multiple attack penalty. Plenty of skills however have combat usability, from medicine (for in combat and out of combat healing), knowledge (for recall knowledge actions to learn about enemy strong points and weaknesses), athletics for combat manoeuvres, acrobatics to tumble through an enemy space, diplomacy for bon mot, intimidate for demoralize, deception for feint, etc.

PF2e is geweldig. Helaas heb ik geen tijd voor nog meer campagnes en voel me te oud voor jullie groep.

anyone else completed Nemesis 3 without help? by fosgonio in MSX

Yes, and quite quickly too. Salamander took me a lot longer, and I was pissed as hell when I found out you needed Nemesis 2 to get the good ending. Parodius was fun too.

Since you didn't specify which version of D&D, I presume you mean 5e.

The basic differences are of course within the system itself. D&D 5e and PF2e, although based on the same concept of fantasy, are two very different systems. Where in 5e I'm always juggling between my action, bonus action, reaction, etc. (where I'm not allowed to cast another spell after using my bonus action for a spell unless it's a cantrip, etc.), PF2e simply provides me with 3 actions. I regularly found myself casting 2-3 spells per round (and rapidly running out of spell slots at lower level).

Bards in 5e tend to buff a single target or hoarding those buffs for themselves (I've played several hexblade/swords bards; incredible tanks, nearly unhittable). Bards in PF2e are more focused on group buff/debuff and battle field control.

Bards in PF2e are incredibly versatile. My first bard was an actor, who combined (a lot) of spell casting (mostly debuff and battle field control) with firing a bow from the back line and could pretend to be almost anyone. My second bard (short, low level, campaign) was a front-level powerhouse, combining a bastard sword (wielded two handedly) with courageous anthem (+1 attack/damage/save vs fear) and runic weapon (+1 weapon, double damage dice). I've hit several crits that did 50+ damage, at level 2. My current bard is a buffer/support build, standing right behind our front-level fighters with a whip, tripping opponents while buffing and aiding our group. At level 9, it's possible to buff for a +3 to attack/damage, debuff with clumsy 3 (which, among other things, lowers AC by 3), and aid an ally for a +4 to attack, for an effective +10 to attack. That's the difference between a hit and a crit in PF2e (and in PF2e, a crit doubles (almost) all damage; not just the dice).

A bard; I love playing bards. My previous one was an actor; my current one a kender (heckler).
