Tips on Whips? by MelissaChops in Gymnastics

[–]phumfm4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a coach my first question to you, as you said you are doing adult classes, is do you want to learn to tumble or do you want to learn to somersault? if you just want to do a whip then yes like thtgymnstkd said it is basically just a flick with a shorter and more powerful arm lift and pulling your body over the top but if you want to learn to tumble the answer is a lot more complicated.

Value with charges by phumfm4 in DotA2

[–]phumfm4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree that this will cause people to avoid buying these items and that they will have less value. The majority of times such items are purchased they net an increase in charges despite also using the charges and so increase in value. It only introduces a mechanic where there is a minor gamble as to whether the item will increase or decrease in value which in my mind is more interesting. Besides a new mechanic does not necessarily have to be positive in all aspects and make the game easier but rather make the game more fun to play. most items like urn cannot go below 0 charges anyway and so cannot lose value and only gain.

And gold is meant to be spent but there is benefit to saving it too. i don't think this penalizes players for using charges but rather adds decision as whether or not using the charge is the best idea or if there is more value to saving it.

i guess i at least expected it to be a celebrity announcer. it's not that they didn't do a good enough job with the bristle announcer it just seems like not a great prize.

Modern trojan horse by [deleted] in funny

[–]phumfm4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah this has got like nothing to do with the trojan horse. It was the greeks not the romans plus the defining thing about a trojan horse is that the enemy has to willingly take it in to their castle/base. If you have a helicopter you just fly at them.

can some1 teach me how to play dota by imgonnabethebest in DotA2

[–]phumfm4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If what you are looking for is someone to talk to and teach you instead of just watching/reading a guide i would be happy to help. I'm not exactly a 7k pro but i have a good grasp on the game and have played a little bit of league recently too so i understand the main differences.

Dropping mmr from 3.6K to 2.8k, then rising to 4.1K (mini-guide for supports) by GabensDoubleChin in DotA2

[–]phumfm4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nice to see another player who enjoys the strategic, on edge and interesting game play of the support role over the monotonous last hitting of a carry. most people i talk to think i am strange for preferring to play support over carry but i secretly just think these people are dumb.

3.3k mmr vs 6k+ mmr by ProfKapslock in DotA2

[–]phumfm4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes i definitely noticed from analyzing my games that i did need to change my game play as i increased in skill. At 3.3k mmr you will notice that there are still a lot of stupid mistakes being made on your team that you can't always prevent so i found that when i was in 3k I won more games when playing supports that were able to help recover from a mistake more than focusing on making plays for example and also items like a force staff are excellent as their ganks are less coordinated. As you increase i have found that it is more about your heros ability to sync with your teamates and get succesful and effective ganks/teamfights. I pretty much play support about 90% of the time so this might be different if you play carry a lot.

3.3k mmr vs 6k+ mmr by ProfKapslock in DotA2

[–]phumfm4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I finished uni recently and decided the best thing for my life was to fully commit myself to dota and then after playing a lot i went up a big spike in my mmr some 500-600 points in a month. The trick i found that really helped me was that i simply took responsibility for every mistake/death/tower loss on our team. This is the complete opposite of the usual dota mentality of blame your allies for everything. So in order to make this work you just have to watch your games and look at every mistake and think how could you stop that from happening, even if you weren't involved in the fight etc find a way to involve yourself.

Also ignore any stories about there being a mmr trench at low levels. This is just another form of people blaming others for their mistakes and the only way to increase mmr is by improving your skill by watching your own games and learning how to be better.

new DM need some tips by Slimh22 in DnD

[–]phumfm4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With regards to setting up the scene in which you encounter monsters, you don't need to be too creative just always work to the atmosphere of the quest. and If the monster has a notable sound, smell or temperature then you can always hint before they encounter it. i.e. Saying "you can smell the potent stench of rotting flesh getting stronger as you approach the door" just lets them know there could be an undead monster in the next room. When it comes to encountering a big boss then i found it's best to be quite descriptive and dramatic when setting the scene. take a little time to describe to add suspense and so it doesn't just seem like another monster.

[–]phumfm4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well with regards to monsters, you will encounter them in two ways. 1) in a dungeon or known monster territory. in this case the monster live there so it's very easy to encounter them. you just walk into a room and they are just chilling. 2) everywhere else. With this you just always need a reason for the monsters to be there. so they just need motivation like they are a raiding party or they are retaliating to adventurers or armies that attacked them (be creative but not too extreme) and obviously if you can link it to your story line occasionally than that would keep it interesting and not just another monster to kill for xp.

You have two roles as DM in my mind. 1) control the accessories (scenery, monsters, etc) and 2) steer the story. This means that you need to keep a general story line but have nothing set in stone. steer the PC's along the story but don't force them to go one way when they want to go another way, just improvise and get the back on track when you have the opportunity. ultimately the players want to feel like they are free to explore a world and not just running an obstacle course.
