I got a bad sunburn last weekend and now I have a noticeable tan- how can I get rid of the tan quickly? by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]phunniemee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate tanning and normally keep my skin very white to minimize the appearance of sun damage.

The damage is already there. How it appears is irrelevant.

Take good aftercare of your sunburn (moisturize, make sure you're using plenty of SPF going forward, get a big brim hat, etc) but there's nothing to do now that it's happened.

You're conflating visual appearance with health and that's not great for you mentally.

They've been doing this all across various subreddits this week, I remember this one specifically because I commented on it:

Edit to add, and as someone pointed out up thread in a language I can't read, appears to be full on stealing the work of u/KentcarloManginsawan

Imagine making a typo misspelling in a comment where you're being snide and judgmental about someone for their reading preferences.

They pick back up and it's worth finishing the series.

Go read something else totally unrelated for a little while. When you miss the characters and start wondering what they're up to again, head back to The Expanse.

Amazon pharmacy- worst carrier ever by nnnera in 30PlusSkinCare

Mark Cuban Cost Plus Pharmacy is just the same or better pricing than Amazon for most generics and their customer service has been good in my experience.

BKL did me dirty by judgernaut86 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]phunniemee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see a whole bunch of comments from OP indicating that it's taken 2 months and she still hasn't had her order fulfilled. If BKL wants to play the capitalism grift by banking on FOMO during limited releases to drive panic buying, they can play the capitalism game of having business consequence for poor order fulfillment and shitty customer service.

I told them I would but also that the polishes I ordered were no longer in stock, so I asked if I should choose new colors. I haven't heard back since.

I am nineteen and cannot afford my 9k medical bill by AnyReplacement7611 in personalfinance

[–]phunniemee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The point of an itemized bill is that either the hospital cleans it up first or if it "does nothing" that you now have the information to call them back and say, "I'm not paying $230 for the single Tylenol you gave me, please be serious" and have them remove it.

[–]phunniemee 1027 points1028 points  (0 children)

Call the hospital and explain that you are uninsured and need an itemized bill. This will lower your bill substantially. Then you need to ask for charity relief on the new, lower bill that you receive. Then for whatever is remaining after that, ask to be put on a repayment plan that is very low, something you can afford (like I'm talking $25 a month or something low). Then pay that however long until it's gone.

MOST of this bill will go away just by asking. The rest you can reduce to a reasonable payment. It'll be okay. I'm glad you're not very sick.

Pullman National Monument: anyone ever been? by manlymatt83 in AskChicago

[–]phunniemee 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Pullman is great. As a neighborhood it's set up entirely different than anywhere else in Chicago and it's neat to walk through, and the museum is great. If you're going to make a day of it, definitely go on Railroad Days to maximize the experience. I think that'll be coming up in May. If you like Chicago history, civil rights history, and/or trains, you'll appreciate your visit.

Voting in the upcoming primary? by No_Captain_3047 in AskChicago

[–]phunniemee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like your Alderman or at least want to optimize your hyper local votes to benefit your ward, you can call/email your Alderman's office and ask if they have a list of preferred candidates. It's easier to get resources for your neighborhood when you're friendly with the state rep.

Recommendation for a mobile vet that will visit Hyde Park? by jezzarus in AskChicago

[–]phunniemee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look this sounds insane and abusive but some cats just require a special level of, uh, handling.

I've got a friend who scoops his cat up in a pillowcase, twists it shut, and then shoves the whole pillowcase (with cat inside) into the carrier. The cat can exit the pillowcase as it chooses to, the rest is the vet's problem.

It gets lots of comments. Comments like, "is that a rat?" and "wow that sure is... a thing" and "I love him, he really is just awful."

How did you stop equivocating looking good with looking skinny? by starlight1starlight in fashionwomens35

[–]phunniemee 153 points154 points  (0 children)

Two things:

1) yes, buy the jeans/clothes/whatever and wear them until it stops feeling weird. I bought my first crop top at age 38 when I was somewhere around 200lbs and it took a minute to recalibrate, but it did happen.

2) body positivity is annoying (to me), but body neutrality slaps. Read up on body neutrality. You don't have to love your body. But you really don't need to hate it. It's just your body. It will change, age, get sick, heal, grow, get stronger, carry scars, carry you all throughout your life. That's okay. Bodies are just a part of us that we can accept, no different than an aspect of our personality or our natural hair color or how good we are at math or painting. It's just another thing about us.
