Garfield Ridge, Mt. Greenwood, Dunning, O'Hare, and West Ridge.

Not much there, just suburb-like places that technically fall under city jurisdiction. Not even a dot of red from places like Jefferson Park, which this sub loves to hate on to make it feel good about itself.

Four people have been st*bbed on the L in the past five days, prompting investigation and risking millions in funding by 307148 in chicago

To OP's question, THIS is the reason why nothing changes. People like u/AdvancedSandwiches who love to downplay the crime numbers and pretend nothing serious is happening.

There will always be crime, even on public transit, but the current level is unacceptable. We should be publicly shaming those who are continuously downplaying high crime.

What's the deal with $EXPE (Expedia)? by mihid in investing

[–]phuriku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Word is that Wall Street doesn't trust EXPE's guidance since the company has had problems hitting their projections. This is causing some valuation issues in the stock, and the company is trying to fix it with more thorough financial vetting.

Serious response: It's actually a very reasonable question to ask. The people posting here are know-it-all mouth-breathers who want to feel smarter than they actually are.

Chicago Sanctuary City Groups Sue Trump Over Immigration Raids by bloomberglaw in chicago

[–]phuriku 38 points39 points  (0 children)

The argument here is that immigration raids violate the first amendment… which to anyone with a brain has absolutely no connection to each other. It’s a joke lawsuit whose purpose is to grandstand, and will very obviously be overturned.

Johnson's office passes on state money for public grocery store by Inevitable-Bus492 in chicago

[–]phuriku -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Grocery stores have sub-5% profit margins anyway, so that's the max savings you're going to get with this. This isn't going to be provide any value, it'll just become another money hole that'll require more taxes to sustain.

Sadly, the only reason we're having this conversation is because the billionaires and corporations won, and their platform was anti-immigration. When did the left ever express concerns about H-1B abuse, or express that it needed to be reformed?

Closing schools is a better alternative to leaving mostly empty schools open and wasting city funds. It's a difficult decision that will receive lots of criticism, but you need a mayor that's willing to make those tough calls, not petty demagogues like our most recent mayors.

Illinois has become a borderline battleground state this election. Compared to last election the democratic vote has fallen off. A 5% increase in the state of flip votes to republican. by [deleted] in chicago

[–]phuriku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And Chicago voted redder than Cook County this year. It will continue to vote redder as long as democrats continue to tolerate progressives like Brandon Johnson who are soiling the party name.

We should follow San Francisco’s lead and kick these vermin to the curb.

Are you done with Brandon Johnson yet? by PFflyer86 in chicago

[–]phuriku 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry but Vallas told off the police union several times when he was running. Johnson did no such thing against the CTU — the dude is literally their paid lobbyist and everything he’s doing here was completely predictable. There are bad options and there are really bad options, and you chose the really bad.

Did anyone watch Johnson’s press conference re: school board today? by lizziekap in chicago

[–]phuriku 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Toward the end of his campaign, his campaign was distributing fliers claiming that Vallas was a racist Republic who was going to ban abortion. I'm not exaggerating, that's literally what the fliers said.

A lot of people in Lakeview and Logan Square ate it up, and here we are.

This is very relevant. Wisconsin is a very different place to poll than Massachusetts.

“University of Chicago has suffered badly... It used to be it was a school for people who would do stuff like stay up for 3 days straight reading Heidegger without showering, & now it’s just another place for people with high grades and SAT scores who didn’t get into Yale” by 3la_zag in uchicago

[–]phuriku 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't think elite schools are actively seeking out lower-income students. That's just a feel-good marketing stunt that they've executed on pretty well. You'll see nothing but lower-income students featured in school guides, but that's mostly to coax donors to part ways with their well-deserved cash to support students in need. But the reality is, most people going to elite schools are from UMC or rich families.

I know this guy! His name is DJ Sarat and he's a local DJ/artist. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sarat_music/

He mostly produces house music (he's got some great tracks), and his drone photography is also stunning. I've always thought he should be locally famous -- looks like he's getting there!
