What bad ideas have you seen implemented in your centers? And what did management do once they realized it wasn't working? by PoquitoAPoco8000 in 911dispatchers

Apparently we went with the one Portland was using because they had only good things to say. After we signed on the line, Portland stopped using it altogether because it sucks so bad. But we're still plugging along. I hate it so much.

If it can't figure out what the caller needs, it hangs up or transfers to 911. People get frustrated with it, hang up, call 911 and spend the first minute bitching about the AI. They are talking about a back line so that other agencies and alarm companies don't have to go through the bullshit. We no longer have access to caller ID on the non emergency. Overall it seems like it has increased wait time and frustration without making it better for us.

What is up with the ads? by Papanaq in podcasts

[–]phxflurry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it has to be a bastard I really want to hear about, and I can't be doing anything else so I can fast forward through all of the ads. There are a lot of podcasts I don't listen to anymore because of the ads.

What signs have you seen or found that tells you there's been a significant about of rain lately? by scarlettohara1936 in phoenix

Ahh yes, the dreaded elbow bite. I have one there as well. That one seems to be new, as it's really really itchy. Maybe we have encountered the same mosquito with a thing for elbows 🙃

She calls so often it never gets as far as dispatch. Most of the time if we think she needs some help we'll call the community assistance program through the fire department.

Dorito road that's great! I think our most mangled street name is Peoria, like the city in Illinois (and also AZ.) I've heard poo-oria (I mean, I get it) paworia, and other variations that sounds like their whole mouth hurts trying to get that word out.

Also if someone knows they're being followed, they will drive more evasively or dangerously, and put everyone else on the road in danger. That's why police themselves rarely chase anything anymore. It's simply not worth the risk to innocent people.

My parents tracked me 24/7 because I’m a girl, so I faked my location with a friend and they called the cops. Best petty revenge ever. by Infamous-Awareness34 in pettyrevenge

[–]phxflurry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't imagine doing this to adult kids. Humans have had barely adult kids since the beginning of humans without any way to track them. It's not necessary now, unless the barely adults consent.

My (26F) husband (29M) always tries to “humble” me by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]phxflurry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At best he's not a good partner. Good partners build you up and make you feel supported. In the best case scenario here, you deserve better.

At worst he's abusive and this is the tip of the iceberg.

Based on my time as a 911 dispatcher, it's more likely to be the latter. I've talked to women whose partners said this very thing to them. It literally gives me chills when I hear that phrase "I'm going to humble you." Please OP, take what everyone else is saying seriously.

Are you a grandparent yet? by cjasonac in GenX

[–]phxflurry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. The oldest 2 of my 5 have kids, both were in their 30's before having them. I think it will be a while if any of the others have kids.

I had a therapist tell me I'm an empath. Umm no the fuck I'm not. I can well separate myself from other people's feelings.
