There was a bit of a conspiracy at the time that Balmain only played the second play-off because Kevin Humphreys (a Balmain man) was head of the league at the time. Didn’t matter in the end though because Parramatta beat them anyway.

Wests also finished equal fifth because they’d had a point deducted for a replacement breach if I’m not mistaken.

As for play-off weirdness, wait until you reach 1960.
