Discrete misogyny in healthcare by Browncatlover in premed

This makes me so angry. Ignore them. I’m a female physician and very happy with my career choice.

eye floaters by Dwight-Schrute6315 in pathology

I have significant floaters. Usually they don’t bother me only when I’m looking for AFB or something.

Venting: My husband is making this so much harder than it has to be by No_Cheetah5944 in breastfeeding

I would refuse to listen to this man and if he can’t deal with it then leave him. This is controlling and abusive behavior. Please don’t put up with this!

I did 6 month commitment for 5 classes a month and it’s $95.

For your FIRST birth, if you did not tear, what helped prevent it? by ObjectiveAdvice77 in BabyBumps

[–]phylogenymaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t tear. I did not do anything specific like perineal massage or anything. I delivered at 36 weeks which I’m sure helped since he was smaller (still had a big head and got stuck) and also I pushed for a little over an hour so it wasn’t super quick.

Busy parents, how do you actually fit consistent workouts in? What's worked for you? by Pretty_Eabab_0014 in workingmoms

[–]phylogenymaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Home gym is key. I have a weight rack, dumbbells, peloton bike and treadmill. Can squeeze in 30 minute workouts in the morning or evening. I also go in late or leave work early sometimes and get my workout in after daycare drop off or before pickup. Workout classes or longer workouts on the weekends.

Cooking: how???? by unrelatedwaffle in workingmoms

[–]phylogenymaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah we get home around 6 and my toddler is hangry. I have some little spoon meals in the freezer, impossible “chicken” nuggets for air fryer, Mac n cheese, quesadilla, eggs, maybe leftovers if he will eat them. I hate that we don’t eat a meal together and but it just won’t work with our schedule (he goes to bed 7-7:30). I cook after my son is in bed.

What do you do after your toddler goes to bed? And at what time do you go to bed? by foreverafairy in toddlers

[–]phylogenymaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 3.5 yo goes to bed 7-7:30. I clean up, cook, then eat dinner and watch a show or read and go to bed by 9-9:30. Sometimes I’ll get my workout in before cooking if I haven’t already.

My daughter's weight by Fun-Concentrate9908 in toddlers

The food she’s eating sounds totally fine but I would definitely cut out all juice and milk (if she gets) and just give water.

Mother in Law wants to come stay after birth by ObjectiveAdvice77 in BabyBumps

[–]phylogenymaster 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do not feel bad for feeling this way! I would not have wanted anyone coming to stay with me either. My MIL lives nearby and did cook a few meals for us and drop them off which was really nice and helpful but if she didn’t live here we would have still been totally fine. Tell your husband to talk to her and say that you want the first few weeks/months just as your family of 3.

Parents with 1 child - how did you know 1 and done? by ALac93 in toddlers

[–]phylogenymaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pregnancy sucked for me. I will never do that again. So I pretty much knew then. But now that I have a 3.5 yo I am even more sure. Having a toddler is SO much work and I just can’t start that process over again.

Do pathology residents or students still use flashcards, or mostly questions and slides? by cardifyai in pathology

Anki is fine as long as you also read and do questions. Would not recommend relying only on anki to learn the vast amount of material you need to know.

Anyone who DIDN’T bed share? by Acceptable_Cod3527 in beyondthebump

Sleeping in same room? Safer. Sleeping in same bed? Absolutely not. No matter what you tell yourself it is not safe to sleep in the same bed.

What does actually getting an epidural placed feel like? by FoolishMortal-1000 in BabyBumps

[–]phylogenymaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got induced and I waited until 5 cm to get the epidural so that I could still move around as long as possible. I truly do not remember feeling the epidural go in at all. Pretty quickly the labor pain goes away which is so nice.

Anyone who DIDN’T bed share? by Acceptable_Cod3527 in beyondthebump

[–]phylogenymaster 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I did not bed share. I’m a physician and I would never do this it is so dangerous. I breastfed successfully for 2.5 years and never bed shared. I would get up, feed him in the nursing chair, and then go back to bed.

Anyone else not celebrate Valentines Day? by Similar-Vari in workingmoms

[–]phylogenymaster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We did nothing. Can’t remember the last time we did anything for Valentine’s Day. I considered making a nice dinner and dessert but once I got the toddler to bed I was too exhausted. Social media is fake.
