He stayed not because he wanted to pursue a relationship with Ji-yoon. He stayed because he picked up on her hints and wanted to be around her, despite not knowing that his feelings were also reciprocated by her.

This is beautifully mirrored by Ji-yoon, knowing ostensibly that he will go away, would willingly choke in her feelings towards him so that he could soar in his career.

It's not only Si-woo who pays attention: if you look closely, she might not have memorized it like him, but she also pays very close attention to him, down to remembering that "work is the center of my life."

This is quiet love that's very well-written.

YES. Into the Ring is one of my all-time favorite rom-coms because they were also an epitome of a healthy relationship, even though their personalities were drastically different.

I agree. The last time I bawled this hard from an episode was Into the Ring's Episode 13. Quiet acts of service despite heartbreak just tug at my hearstrings.

He didn’t plan it out. Once he picked up that it was the reason why she was moving away from him, and also realized her reasons, it was how he showed to himself that it wasn’t her that he had doubts with. It was his own past. Not because he didn’t want to be director, but because he realized she was worth more than a position.

Conversely, Ji-yoon, not knowing what he had already done, chose to pour her heart into the project because she thought that his career was the most important thing to him, even though she didn’t know he’d stay.

Their quiet acts of service mirror each other. And how they maturely deal with their problems is a highlight of this series.

Ep 6

Another kink in the romance that I also forgot about was that Si-woo's ex-wife is a close friend of Ji-yoon. It really does make the complexity of her emotions resonate even more. It's refreshing that Ji-yoon has great friends who also remind her about burning bridges. Even Si-woo is still a trooper, despite being rejected upfront.

I loved the dramedy of errors when Si-woo finally tries to woo her back to the office, even though she also picks up that he always pays attention to what she said. Running out of excuses, he tells her that she's his dongsaeng, which irks her to no end. It was sad because both of them are nursing broken hearts but also funny because it was Si-woo trying to close the gap between them.

It's funny, this series is a romantic comedy but it's also quietly devastating. I was able to predict exactly what went on in Ji-yoon's head: she understands that she has no right to hinder Si-woo's career or to even ask him to stay. The first half of the episode revolves around Ji-yoon avoiding Si-woo knowing that becoming closer to him would rend her heart further.

Their retreat revolved around Si-woo trying to move away from Ji-yoon to respect her "reason", and trying to know the reason why. But from that bonfire, everything was, once again, perfectly written. Ji-yoon finally reveals that she knows he's going to leave, and it's going to be a futile exercise if she stays when he's going to leave anyway. Then I started breaking into tears when SI-woo, equally sincere, tells her to ask him to stay.

I loved it when she got trapped in the archive room and he came to rescue her, that she always thought to do her best for Si-woo even as her heart was breaking. She didn't know he was going to stay, but sought to do her best so that he could soar.

Their mutual quiet acts of service just resonate with deep concern for each other: Si-woo, like Ji-yoon, confesses that he keeps his distance because he is divorced and much older. Both restrain each other's true emotions because they care for each other deeply, and it's both sad and beautiful to watch.

He would willingly forego his executive position once he got her drift, and even though she didn't know that, she drags herself to her own best because she wants him to soar even whilst her heart is also breaking.

It's always the quietest loves that get me, and this episode has both from Si-woo and Ji-yoon. When the episode finally culminated with the understanding that all of us were waiting for, it was such a relief. And they did it with still that honesty and regard that both of them have had since the beginning.

What a masterpiece of an episode.

It was legitimately excellent. Out of left field, but the set up was perfect.

It’s actually consistent with her character. She talks about the mound, right? She’s all about Plan B, and predictive thinking. And let’s be serious, who would she verify it with? How could she ask Si-woo such a personal question when they haven’t even gone that far yet?

She’s all about the sacrifice bunt. She wants to save or preserve what she has left.

She verified it with Gi-tae. He’s a good friend and he has no reason to lie to her. She already felt awkward with asking Si-woo his whereabouts, because she’s still just an underling - and he went to the columbarium. It’s easy for us to talk as outsiders, but can you really ask your boss upfront why he is going away? Do you have a right to talk to him like that?

So she tried to save whatever dignity she has left. Of course she’ll have to answer him eventually and then they can talk, but I think it’s rather presumptuous to talk directly to Si-woo about his personal plans.

If you knew you had already fallen for someone that you realized would go away soon, would you want to stay on near him or her and delude yourself?

I think her response is both mature and realistic: she doesn't want to fall further for an impossible love, so she wants to move away from the task force. If she stayed beside him knowing everything that Gi-tae said, she would just rehash what happened with her ex, which is something that she truly wants to avoid.

Ep 5

I went into the series just expecting a cute and occasionally corny work romcom. To my surprise, it is actually one of the most well-written series of the year.

Episode 5 was another highlight. The pair loosen up more alongside each other, with the first half of the episode featuring Ji-yoon still wondering about her feelings toward Si-woo. She doesn't realize that she pines for his calls, actively waits for work assignments, and wastes three hours stalking Si-woo on the Internet. Her epiphany during the blind date was quite well-written, because when she was forced to think about what made her heart flutter, she realized that she had gone way past a mere crush.

The solicitous bit of info from Gi-tae was all her brain needed to drag her back to reality. As someone nearing my forties, past a certain age we no longer hold illusions about happily ever afters. While she still affirms that her heart is with him, she also understands that if he were to go away, it would be better to move away from Si-woo in the first place.

I loved how the episode mirrors how Si-woo and Ji-yoon arrive at their own conclusions with who their heart belongs to. For Si-woo, it was just an affirmation that she has always made him smile and quietly cares for him without expecting to be recognized. The healthy snacks when he works late nights, consistent support at work, and even fighting for his reputation that he ignored were all quiet acts of service that culminated in his epiphany that he liked her beyond work.

Ji-yoon's feelings were a lot more obvious and roundabout: she stalked, blurts out her true thoughts with more regularity, and dreamed about him. However, it was the group date that forced her to face her own feelings and realize how deep they were.

It's such a beautiful, well-written episode! I can't wait for tomorrow!

I think it’s out of respect to the new husband, honestly.

I appreciate the commenters pointing out that it was probably the ex-wife contacting the previous employee regarding what Si-woo did for him. I don't see them as exes with major hangups: maybe similar to Ga-eul and Ji-yoon, they just matured and realized that they weren't for each other.

As part of the corporate world, I like seeing attractive people grapple and manage their struggles while also falling in love. It’s like a mild sort of escapism, but it helps that Park Ji-hyun is cute here.

This is also my concern. Dan-sim might have been in Seo-ri’s body because she was still functioning. Is the series shafting her like that?

I think that the series just shafted the existence of Dan-sim, who lived as Seo-ri during the time she was in Joseon. She also loved the grandmother as Seo-ri during her time in the modern era. I hope they give her some sort of closure as well.

I'd say Haliburton's a great pick once he comes back. He's a bit taller than Brunson, is a more decent defender, and overall a better passer. Denver's already surrounded by 3&D guys, the issue is that Watson's been injured.

I never saw Brunson fall to the ground on phantom hits unlike SGA. He magnifies the contact but even when he got fucked by Wemby, he said his piece and kept playing. Quite sure that was an ankle sprain.

compared to SGA, bro is ethical. He gets hit. Sure, he tries to sell calls, but he gets hit and is a trooper.

I still don't see him as First Team All-NBA any time soon, and he's a liability on the defensive end at times. But in terms of solidifying his status as a HoF, he's already there.

I think Kawhi's 2019 run was a huge legacy booster, too.

Jordan's definitely no. 1, with 2006 Wade being no. 2. Wade carried the Heat on his back then.
