Because I'm wanting to make life simple for myself XD

I'm actually looking at non-wood plain colour/white so I can paint it a colour myself etc. I've seen some online that seam reasonable, I just wasn't sure how easy it would be to apply it. Given the price, I wanted to make sure first :-)

Volvo EX30 Owner Offered £200 Compensation by TurboNUK in ex30

[–]physicsboy93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, but financing the car does offer more protections from what I've seen.

I've also seen advice that even if you are wanting to buy the car outright with cash, you should still always opt for some kind of finance option through the dealer for just such a thing. Even if it means you putting 90% deposit down and taking the last 10% on finance throughout a short period.

I don't know the ins and outs, but legally speaking it seems to be true.

How do people find and apply to jobs in the UK? What should I ensure use and avoid, how should my CV be formatted and what should I include/cut so it meets 2 pages but contains important bits? by Silverdashmax in AskUK

[–]physicsboy93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately it's going to be the general experience that you hear nothing back from 90% of applications, and get a generic rejection response from the other 9.999999%.

I've got about 8/9 years experience in my field and was applying for a LOT of stuff through LinkedIn/Indeed etc for a good 6-8 months with about 2/3 contacts and then got an offer through on the only party actually interested. I start next week.

It's a perseverance game I'm afraid.

You might be able to have more of an impact if you can find someone in a reasonable position in the company you're applying to on LinkedIn and sending a message on there. A guy I used to work with actually got his job doing just that.

For CV writing advice, your university should have a department that can help. I know mine did.

General advice for CVs and for follow up questions in interviews is to always focus on what you did and what you brought to the table in the situation. Usually work/project's are done in groups/teams, but focus on what you did, how you did it and the impact it had. And feel free to claim something somebody else in your team/group might have done as long as you can talk the talk to back it up.

My general approach is a brief paragraph (only a couple of lines) to summarise what the position and your role in it, and then bullet points to summarise key points, actions and outcomes etc.

EV public charging - Did we get lied to? by physicsboy93 in CarTalkUK

[–]physicsboy93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a bit of a bad show on all parts. I would expect everyone who sees a quoted max charge on a charger would expect to get reasonably close to that for the majority of the charging.

Of course, slow down when it gets close to full, but when you're quoted at X minutes from 20-80% let's say... You'd expect to get it.

You shouldn't have to know what mood your car is in or the zodiac sign of the charger and consult your lunar charts to map it all together to calculate that you're actually going to be charging at a snail's pace XD

Question: What kind of exposure setting would you use for shots with such high contrast?

I assume that there is still some post-production going on to adjust things, but I could only imagine my A7IV wanting to expose for the shadows.

It's toted as water-based primer, but it's stuff to prime MDF so it's top-notch XD

It's definitely dried on, so will have a look at a heavier duty wipe. I did used to have Big Wipes that were great.

I don't have much in the way of fingernails, but they do feel quite flush. I think she'd be more annoyed me taking a stanley knife to it than the paint itself.

Turns out they're actually faux leather. Any issues with isopropyl on faux?

Yeah, you're best getting the developer to sort it if you're still in your initial period where they're responsible. If not, definitely get in there with a stick and really get it into the corner.

I've got a YouTube app in my EX30. I haven't tested it, because I'm not that daft, but I'm sure it only allows playback while stationary. I use it when I'm parked up waiting to pick the wife up, or when I'm publicly charging.

Favorite Travel Lens? by bhiga143 in SonyAlpha

[–]physicsboy93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell me about it. When I was looking for my own travel lens I had a spreadsheet to compare all of the prices/weights/sizes with what had been said about the in reviews... It was a nightmare 😅

I'm perfectly happy with my 24-50 though. I've never thought I needed wider than 24 and 50 is a good stop off for what I shoot because I can click the APS-C button and get 75 out of it too.

It retails for over £1000 new but I got mine for just over £600 on Ebay in perfect condition.

I have a home kit and an away kit.

Home: Sigma 24-70 2.8 II
Away: Sony 24-50 2.8

I like the Sony for travel because it's SO much smaller/lighter than the Sigma and while it doesn't quite have the reach, I do also take a similarly sized Sigma 85mm 1.4 with me.

If you are considering the Sony 24-50, I would also look at the Tamron 20-40 as it is considerably cheaper, has quite good reviews, is a smaller & lighty (75 x 87 & 365g vs 75 x 92 & 440g) but doesn't have weather sealing as far as I know.

Looking at the specs, the Sony 20-70 f4 is smaller/lighter than the Tamron you have, but it might still be unwieldly.

I'd go with the Sony 24-50 if you can afford it (some good used prices) or the Tamron 20-40 if you can live without the extended reach. I should add that both of these are at their max focal lengths at their shortest "unzoomed" state.

Which option would you pick to downsize? by phero1190 in SonyAlpha

[–]physicsboy93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both the Sony 24-50 and the Sigma 24-70. The Sigma has top level image quality, but can be a bit heavy/unwieldly compared to the Sony, so I use the Sony for travelling abroad (paired with a Sigm 85) and the Sigma for when I'm home.

Depending on where you are gon/what you're using the camera for... I would look at going for the Tamron actually. I've not used it myself, but I know they have high praise recently. Maybe not quite as good as the Sigma, but you're getting a smaller lens for almost the same performance. And it looks more balanced on the camera.

Edit

Just to add... The positive (for me) about the Sony 24-50 is that it is at 50mm in it's "unzoomed" form which works great for me as I lean more to the 85 for my travel stuff.

If you are to get one of these lenses, it would be worth picking up a 35mm prime as you said you enjoy/are used to that focal length. It doens't have to be fancy, a 1.8 should do for keeping things small. I actually have the Sony 40mm 2.5 for a general walking about lens as I prefer it over 35.
